Doesn't help that all of the Japanese battleships up until the Yamato uses the same basic secondary armament configuration, which is anti-destroyer/anti-cruiser only, with only a few dual purpose guns (two AA emplacements per side; Amagi gets 4). Gonna really suck in comparison if the US battleship hull upgrades get 5" dual purpose batteries for the mid tiers, giving them probably double the effective AA of Myogi, Kongo and Fuso.

Tatsuta still has the most hilarious AA setup. Four big sandbagged platforms around the first funnel featuring all of of one Maxim gun each.

Pre and early-war AA really isn't much.

My experience was that the Fuso and up rip apart planes. Maybe not fast enough to prevent a torp squadron from attacking but enough to panic it, reduce the number of torps, and leave it horribly bloodied. I was killing 20-30 planes in any decent match and keeping the skies thinned out, better still if you're near anything else with AA. Of course cruisers get even better AA, but the higher tier BBs are in the game as they are currently doesn't leave me worried.

The tier 9 Ibuki is the first Japanese cruiser with respectable AA, really, and it's the same as the tier 6 Cleveland and worse than US tier 9 Baltimore. AA balancing will probably be weird if they expect cruisers to escort battleships.

It's really quite ironic that aircraft carriers actually get weaker with higher tiers, simply because low tier ships have gently caress-all for AA guns. Most cruisers have one or two at most.

I think the AA stats are bugged or something. During Alpha, my Mogami seemed to shoot down planes just as good as Clevelands, and Fuso's seem to shoot down way more planes than they should.

The worst part about this game is the playerbase, looks like I'll have to run double dive bombers on all my CV just to kill that one skilled DD. Looking at you there demon!

They should look at the MM too, CV of different tiers just can't be mixed with the current fighter balance. I lost two full sets of fighters while attacking a single squadron of an enemy carrier. That was my Langley vs his Independence.

Tell you what, for those wanting to not suck at carriers, have a lovely MSpaint rendition of what happened to me and what you should do more often.

As long as you can time the attacks properly, there is pretty much no way to escape that. Even if you fail to kill the ship outright you'll cripple it for sure and it'll likely get picked off in short order.

The worst is when you and another carrier try this, and you both miss the manual drop :negative: Also the Nicholas is hilarious. The torps have 13km range, so I just fire them down the spaces between islands, usually manage to rack up a couple hits, or the occasional DD kill.

Every time I've done a manual drop so far I've hosed it up like an idiot like giving the attack order too close to where the bombers are flying so they have to fly circles downwards in order to drop and by the time they do the ship has moved away.

The Cleveland loving owns though...2k XP game in the only game I played in it. Dropping 3k AP hits every 9 seconds or so and then torped 2 BBs that decided to get too close. Looking forward to tooning up tonight :) also still on the fence if I should blow the rest of my free XP on a high tier DD again. I'm interested in this game but I'm not sure about it.
World of tanks: tanks with health bars, Ew.
World of planes: planes with health bars, Ew.
World of warships: ships with health bars, well it worked fine in Battlestations1&2 so I'm not too driven off by it.
How much is it "health bar" driven though, battlestations had health bars but still seemed some what realistic in the amount of damage ships could take.
How work in progress is the look of the game? The way everything moves, the speed of the water/fire/smoke, too fast, everything looks like models on a lake, they could tilt shift it and put a lake shore skybox and the illusion would be perfect.
Also you should play Battlestations Pacific if you haven;t and your like arcadish boat games, it's great.

Yeah I think so too. My Mogami used to make short work of planes anywhere near it, However in CBT it can only get a single plane kill if the squad just hovers around long enough

Does manual drop mean you can actually tell the planes when to drop torps, and not just from what angle?

Turn off the players (team) panel and don't look at it. Problem solved.

Health bars don't mean poo poo when you drop in a well-placed salvo and ammo rack another ship. Three times today I managed that but I have been around longer and had practice raining hell down on people. The best part is the new players who still have not gotten the hang of varying your speed and making turns to throw off the enemy getting a good bead on your. Since speed is relatively impossible to determine when you are in open water that makes it a bitch for the other guy.

Use ALT to get the hud to display the additional target information on your enemy i.e. shell travel speed and distance to target.

Johnny 5 and whoever else was in the division with me last night, good games. Sorry I had to bail but it was hella late. Had a good time, even when we had Hellsau on our team. ;) Btw Hellsau is amazing in a CV.

Sucks there were not more on TS though to get in divisions but it seems like everyone is predictably on the camping the stairs server.. I will keep this TS around for a few more months and likely take it down because you fucks don't use it and I can't be bothered to maintain it when no one wants to use it.

I was looking in the game options, and it says 'hold control to use secondary (AAA?) weapons'. I do that, but I never get anything but a cursor. I'm only in tier 3. Do my ships just not have AAA yet?

What's with those secondary guns that jut out from the belt of the first battleship? Do those fire like all the other guns whenever I blast a salvo at a target in their line of fire, or do they just stick out and look stupid?

Secondary weapons start at tier 4 or 5 I think. You can hit 'P' to disable AA if your ship is equipped, don't do that.

Secondaries are real and useful. Example on my Kongo I can get close in and while my mains reload the secondaries are shooting and making them pay. I have killed a number of ships with my secondaries actually which really pisses people off when you mock them.

I keep using the Kongo as my broken record example because I do so enjoy that ship. I have the Amagi and Pensacola unlocked with enough XP to elite it and cash in the bank to buy all the mods too but cannot decide what line I want to go down.

There was a question about what happens at the end of CBT.. Alpha's who get the camo Iwaki premium ship will keep that. Not sure about anything else but it would make sense everything else is reset and you go back to being a heathen with the rest. Maybe they will give us a few days ahead of the rest like they did with this transition. Who knows. Also Gunlion was in general chat yesterday afternoon and was discussing that they are working on giving the players a stipend of piasters but still figuring out just how to do it without handing everyone too much. With 3k I will have enough to combine with what they already gave us to free xp through the Amagi and get the Yamato again with minimal effort. If I wasn't a dumbass and burned xp to unlock both the Amagi and Pensacola I would have had enough to get to the Yamato. FML.

True, but if you are in a BB and have a target on your back already with waves of bombers and fighters all around you that is a moot point. But I agree there are valid reasons to disable them depending on the situation. I am usually in something that becomes primary from the get go so being discreet does not matter.

No. Keep them in there.

For AA, if you hold control and click a squadron your aa will focus it and do more damage to it and less to everything else. Anti-surface secondaries fire automatically but at point blank range.

Battleships, especially the faster ones can dodge crossed runs, but only if they're dodging one run before the planes drop and manipulate their speed to help against the second.

That only works vs dumb pubs, if you go manual then you have no such issues.

Also -> secret manual hint: you can enable manual aim while heading to a way point, it's usually a far more reliable method to get your planes to do their attack run on time instead of circling back to the launch point. The important part is to set the attack from outside the circle.

As for the game, currently terrible but improving. Destroyers are great fun, and only experience so far with ramming has come in one too. Dodged an enemy destroyers torpedo spread, only for them to turn themselves into a final one. Actually a wise move too, as I was lining up an extremely close-range kill shot on a Kongou before having to maneuver to dodge.
