I'd loved a comission from Artgerm or Crain but they were way above my paygrade. I also met Capullo and I wanted him to sign the sketch but I didnt got the chance.

Some artists charge astronomical amounts (over $1k for even the simplest of sketches) while others charge very reasonably (head or bust sketch for $50-$75) and some will do decent quick sketches for free. It really all depends on the artist and their popularity. We have an entire thread devoted to commissions http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3512726. When I was at a con Kaare Andrews was doing rough sketches between signings. I asked what he was working on and he asked who my favourite character was. I said Batman so he drew up a Batman for me in about 2 minutes and gave it to me. Still one of my fave con experiences. edit: I ended up buying this print of Batman off him too Madkal fucked around with this message at 15:58 on Mar 16, 2015 |

Now that I think about it, what is the consensus on the mexican talent at Marvel? Mainly, Medina and Barberi.

I would count myself a fan of both. Barberi did one of my favorite Deadpool stories ever in Suicide Kings. As well as having nice runs on other things I've read. I loved Medina's work on Deadpool as well and especially his Nova.

Is Adam Hughes a tracer as well?

I'm *fairly* certain his portfolio of busty, scantily-clad women is hand-drawn. *Maybe* some photo reference. EDIT: Wikipedia posted:The penciling process Hughes employs for his cover work is the same he uses when doing sketches for fans at conventions, with the main difference being that he does cover work in his sketchbook, before transferring the drawing to virgin art board with a lightbox,[33] whereas he does convention drawings on 11 x 14 Strathmore bristol, as he prefers penciling on the rougher, vellum surface rather than smooth paper, though he does enjoy brush inking on smoother paper.[34] He does preliminary undersketches with a lead holder,[35] because he feels regular pencils get worn down to the nub too quickly. As he explained during a sketch demonstration at a comic book convention, during this process he uses a Sanford Turquoise 4B lead, a soft lead, though when working at home in Atlanta, where the humid weather tends to dampen the paper, he sometimes uses a B lead or 2B lead, which acts like a 4B in that environment.[34] However, his website explains that he uses 6B lead, with some variation. For pieces rendered entirely in pencil, he employs a variety of pencil leads of varying degrees of hardness.[31] After darkening in the construction lines that he wishes to keep, he erases the lighter ones with a kneaded eraser before rendering greater detail.[35] For more detailed erasures, he uses a pencil-shaped white eraser, and to erase large areas, he uses a larger, hand-held white eraser, which he calls a "thermonuclear eraser", because it "takes care of everything".[34]

I went to a con and some guy I never heard of was selling Wonder Woman sketches for hundreds of dollars, like literal uncolored, uninked rough sketches; my girlfriend got Mike Mignola to sign a little art book and sketch a cute little skull for $10

MY ABACUS! posted:It seems weird to go after super heroes for being fit because it'd be a bad idea to fight crime for a living and not keep in shape. Sure, there are some artists who exaggerate too much, but it's not like someone who can lift a car is going to have a spare tire. I think it'd be good if there were some characters like this, especially if they got their powers later in life and their powers overrode their biology so they couldn't exercise away those love handles. He used to do Justice League International interiors after Maguire and then he's also done interior for other books like a Ghost special and he wrote and illustrated Gen 13 Ordinary Heroes. He pitched a WW2 era Captain America mini but apparently Marvel was like "...yeah but where are the boobs?" And it never happened. He seems pretty resigned to his fate illustrating cheesecake but a lot of his covers are cool. He was also connected with All Star Wonder Woman but that never happened. He also did art for After Watchmen: Dr Manhattan.
