I don't see why the dog couldn't either be a Spectral or a Medium. It was effected by the spirits as it went with Izabel and Max. Might have been a gag and a hint at what's up with that Squeaker.

if you look, the page pretty neatly divides itself into 3 smaller segments that way, both in terms of use of space and the pace of the jokes
