To have actual water flow you need to have a water source on your map that is above sea level. The source will spawn water that then does it's water-physics thing eventually hopefully ending up in the ocean. Might flood half the country side in the mean time. If the custom map you loaded doesn't have any flow it's because the author is a baddie that didn't make proper rivers and just had river-shaped ocean bays.

e: a quick fix is to lower the sea level in the map editor (might have to adjust coastline, riverbeds too depending on the map) and then place sources where you need them.

If you take a look at the second Southern Europe map that comes with the game in the map editor (you have to copy the map from the game folder to the folder the game stores custom maps in to open them) you can see exactly how to handle it properly.

So if I'm doing a mostly flat map, I want to have the "sea level" setting below the lowest actual altitude (say, the bottom of my rivers)? I placed my water sources in the actual river itself.

edit: Hey, maybe I should use the "water flow" view in the map editor to confirm this. Turns out that yes, my rivers were stagnant. Lowered the sea level, tweaked a few things, let it run for a while, now I have a properly flowing river. All part of the learning process I guess. :v:

Holy poo poo. Although I would love to be flattered, I don't know at all what they are referring to. Perhaps there's a team out there planning for a total conversion? I'll just flatter my ego right now and hope, even though reality is probably otherwise.

In any case, I'm working to finish the map this weekend. I'm a bit bummed that with what I've seen, it'll have to be a new file which people will have to subscribe to anew, unless I keep it the same name (which is somethingsomething BETA)

--- Now, I have a question, I saw a few people ask for more Sci-fi oriented buildings for the map. I was myself thinking about doing a few that were sci-fi themed that could be adaptable to different map styles or planets or what have you. Now here's the thing: considering this is the quality of 3D I can put out, and considering I also have to take the time out of working on my other projects (I'd probably do the buildings on weekends), would anyone be interested in helping me Patreon this up a bit? The stuff will be available anyway on the workshop, and I'll have done a few models before I even set up the thing of course so people can judge.

Unfortunately it looks like Workshop doesn't let you publish updated versions of maps in this game to overwrite old ones. Hopefully they will consider changing this.

In the meantime, I've fixed my Springfield map to have proper water.

Don't industrial buildings already do something like this? Mods might be able to add their own district specialization and then enable their buildings only within that specialization

It's looking like my solution to cargo trains, since there are no outside connections for them on the entire map, is either just to have a terminal at the major industrial areas and a third at the major commercial one, or ignore it entirely in favor of a cargo port. I have an idea for passenger trains but ehh.

Domattee

They might have disabled it for maps specifically since you can't really "update" a map that's already been played on the way you can update a building model or some game-mechanic.

So after switching from a low-education industrial economy to offices, my commercial sector started to cascade into not having enough items to sell after working perfectly fine for months. :psyduck: I see my little goods trucks coming from the harbors and working their way through my skyway, same as they always had. I deleted some industrial spots over time so maybe that's what caused it? I'm still making piles of money, albeit less, and sitting at 3.5 mil so not really worried but it's odd to have almost half my high density commercial district turn into abandoned ghost towns. I was saving that for "chocolate island" (surrounded by poop chutes).

I'm making a valley and city of the dammed in my reclaimed area filled with industrial sectors and freight trains and low education housing to try and fix the issue, though. The Worker's paradise. :allears:

Offices produce goods, but not nearly as many as industrial, so if you got rid of your industrial that'll have caused the shortage. Your harbors probably don't have enough import capacity, or the trucks are getting stuck and despawned somewhere.

Might be it, then. I did change a bunch of my old inner-city industrial spots into offices. Might also explain the better traffic flow too with lack of trucks but I'd rather have traffic than ghost towns. I'm following the harbor trucks and it looks like they're going where they need to go so it doesn't look like that's the reason. Any way to increase import capacity? Some of these boats coming in are only carrying 10-20% loads. I'll see how well my worker's paradise works out or re-zone the lower level offices back into industrial.

I actually have no idea how harbors work I just noticed that my import problem went away when I built a second one. You could also try to get a cargo train station reasonably close to your commercial. Do you have traffic back ups anywhere else? Maybe the commercial that is having a shortage get their import from the nearest source so if that isn't the harbor but the highway, trucks might despawn somewhere there.

Cargo stations can import and export goods and resources and carry them between cargo train stations on your map. A good way is to connect two industrial spots or connect any specialized industry (oil/ore/forestry/agriculture) to general industry. Having one near your harbor is a good idea too. If you don't have a harbor a large chunk of your import/export will now be handled through the station instead of the highway, so less trucks from the high way but a whole bunch out of the station.

One thing I'm really missing is larger versions of certain city services. A high-capacity elementary school or a high-capacity high school would be good. Although it might be prone to abuse given that there's apparently no distance limit on effective schooling.

What would be really great would be a drat necropolis.

That would be convenient, but not particularly true to life. Elementary schools, even in huge cities, generally have a fairly low capacity.

I wonder if its the SC4 community. Those guys have an enormous library of really cool stuff, especially in the transit realm. It seems way easier to mod things in the game, so they're loving everywhere.

Speaking of which, is there a route query tool available in this game? I think someone mentioned it some pages ago. I'd really like to see how my commuters are moving around.

Maybe that's it, because there were no update buttons at all. It kept thinking it was a brand new map, even though it was the same map file, with the same name and it wound up putting up a duplicate. Looking on some other places I wasn't the only one with the problem, so maybe Workshop is just busted at the moment.

- Damned off all water entrances/exits

- Ensured the flow direction
- NOT hook them up to my urban water system

The drains and pumps are alternating flashing activity. A couple will pump, a couple will drain.
