I thought that short was bluuuuugh but if you dug it, you should see Fort Bliss. Very similar vibe, kinda went under the radar last year. I assume axleblaze saw it already because that is a man on top of festival films.

It's just fun to see a short film that's on the same budget level as something I could make. I sort of like that low-fi unpolished amateur feel, especially now that it's so easy to make something blandly glossy. The script doesn't rock me but that "we're making a movie" vibe definitely does.

Speaking of low-fi, who was it that brought up Demon Lover Diary here a couple years ago? I love this movie.

I think I posted this soon after I got back from this year's Sundance but this fun little short film
https://vimeo.com/90733535
Was literally made for £50. I'm not saying it doesn't feel like that's about how much it would cost but it's still a nice little short and it's just nice that you can spend £50 and get into Sundance.

On another note, I'm kind of annoyed that I jumped the gun on posting a short because I found a short I've been wanting to post forever, but now I feel obligated to wait until tomorrow.

I didn't care for the Raid too much, and didn't see the Raid 2 because it apparently wasn't as good as the first one, but man that Raid 2 deleted scene that was like its own little short that was floating around before the theatrical release ruled. It was black comedy intensified so far that it went infernal.

The Raid 2 was actualy just as good in a completely different way.

Land of the Dead pretty much meets the threshold for okay. It's worth a watch, but it's nowhere near as good as Romero's previous films. I saw it in the theatre when it came out and I've never had the desire to revisit it. It's still the last zombie movie Romero made that's even worth watching though.

I thought generally people preferred the second while acknowledging that it's way too long.

As someone who didn't like The Raid 2, I'll concede that, y'know, it's not factually worse than the original. As Dickeye said, it's just a very different movie and I found that movie sort of boring most of the time. Many people apparently don't feel that way.

I definitely would rather watch the first, as evidenced by the fact that I've dickstreamed it a million times and never gotten tired of it, but the second is a better movie with plot that isn't "punches"

Not being as good as Night, Dawn, or Day is hardly a knock on a film, though. That's a pretty high bar.

There's something about dynastic struggles in Asian action movies that I love. The fact that it's also loving brutal in the fight scenes doesn't hurt.

Like the comical class struggle story is so unsubtle and insulting compared to the stuff in Dawn and Day, and there's really nothing else in the film to latch onto.

And John Leguizamo's in it.

Land Of The Dead is awesome. It's especially interesting because of the heavy similarities to Romero's original script for Day. I don't know if he did it on purpose or if it's just a reflection of how little things have changed since then.

Demon Lover Diary is really cool. It's a shame the only way to watch it is so low-fi, especially when you figure that Jeff Kreines very likely has a pretty pristine digital version at his disposal. Having never seen Demon Lover, I can't speak to the quality, but it would be dope if Scream Factory would put them out as a double feature pack.

There are lots of subtle things going on in all four films (there may be and probably are in the last two but good god). The fact that it's all so up front with where it's coming from makes some roll their eyes but I love all that crap.
