trickle down economics work if you're not giving the money to billionaires; everyone benefits from the increased services made available to rural communities by a vastly increased tax base

unfortunate story of everything going wrong for untold (lmbo at "the Pitchfork show at SXSW" tho):

"https://www.facebook.com/Untoldhemlock/posts/813574832042433 posted:

So I feel as though I owe an explanation to everyone that came down to the Pitchfork show yesterday at SXSW.

What was meant to be a fun blast through a bunch of new tracks played live, we ended up with a listening party (of sorts) with me just hitting play on some backup files and chatting between songs as I loaded them up.

The short answer is most of the equipment I'm travelling with blew, had issues with power conversion, or was damaged in transit to the venue. There was 15 minutes setup time including line check so it was either bail on it or make some noise by any means possible.

OK so I don't buy into the concept of luck, good or bad but a few annoying events prevented me from presenting my new music in a fluid and dance able manner.

My intention for this live tour was to play as much stuff as I can live on top of some bed tracks, then jam out on hardware as a transition. When it works I do believe the dynamics and sound of a full live rig is worth it in terms of sound quality, being fun and challenging to perform. When it doesn't work out it just sucks and I sometimes wish I was playing tracks off an ipod.

#1 - When I set my gear up at my apartment for a test run all was fine apart from the synth (an Alesis Micron) that's travelling with me didn't want to power up. I couldn't trace the problem so decided to press on without it.

#2 - Farewell to my little Mackie Mixing desk (pictured) who's travelled and performed with me in North America (twice) Brazil, Chile and Europe. He was working fine at home but when I got to the venue and set up the master amp blew. The (extremely knowledgeable and helpful) sound engineers and I made the call to go straight into the front of house desk leaving me to control the master volumes of my gear individually. Stressful but not beyond possibility.

#3 - When we got going I soon lost all midi sync between the other machines (an Octatrack Sampler, Waldorf Blofeld and Korg Electribe) preventing me from keeping stuff in time. I believe this was due to some boxes requiring power via midi. (Midi solutions event Processor)

#4 - (Minor) The wheel on my suitcase broke off. loving shitbox.

It's all part of the fun of being a touring musician and I'm trying not to let it get me down. So Today after a 60 mile round trip around the outskirts of Austin driving through floods and torrential rain I have a new mixer, a hench 300w Step up power transformer and a shiny new suitcase. For all my other live dates I'm putting my everything into making sure we get something special, live, exiting on the night

A word of warning to EU musicians touring out here solo:

If your EU gear is rated for 110-240 don't believe the hype. It will behave unpredictably between city to city in North America running from 110. Buy or require on your tech rider a (very heavy) 200 of 300 watt Step up voltage converter to run off. The cheap ones won't supply clean power.

If you plan on touring with older synths, beware of anything that requires an AC power source. You have to approximate the power consumption and it's near impossible to get an AC adapter in the States with a specific rating.

Onwards and upwards! If you're at SXSW catch me DJing B2B Tessela at Dreams afterparty Saturday
