Why does everyone think I'm going to get in trouble?

Also, they didn't draw attention to it like the drink and the cigarette, but Jotaro kept producing more chips out of nowhere, too, presumably with the aid of Star Platinum :allears:

His mindgames game is at least as strong as Joseph's was, for sure.

There's a cart off to the side with more chips, actually. It's way out of reach of Jotaro, but I'd believe that Star Platinum just grabbed him the chips.

The least believable thing this episode is that Jotaro's soul is pure white.

Think of it more like pure white like a white dwarf, burning intensely (with rage).

The funny thing is how D'arby would've won if he wasn't so afraid of Dio, but he also wouldn't have been opposing them if he wasn't afraid of Dio.

Yeah if D'arby wasn't working for Dio then he would have won. Everything just lined up perfectly.

The same will probably be true for the other remaining OVA > Anime fights, even though the anime will always remain faithful.
For as good as the OVA nails N'Dour and D'Arby, it absolutely butchers its third fight. Literally the only way David Productions could make it worse would be by cutting it completely for time or something.

It might be worth mentioning that if you're crazy spoiler sensitive, you may want to turn off once it gets the the stills showing upcoming products. The Eyes of Heaven key art shows future characters.

As much as I normally hate it, I actually kinda liked the big black censor bar this episode. Having half of Jotaro's face cut off makes him look like a monster. Just the way D'arby was seeing him at that moment :getin:

I liked this episode, even though it was painfully obvious Jotaro had a weak hand. I wasn't really convinced D'Arby should be sweating bullets until that final raise. Also his drink made me laugh more than it should.

I wish the rest of the season had been this decent.

Took a look at the english OVA episode as well. Now I want the english dub to find someone who can properly channel Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday for D'Arby's voice.

Personally, I like the OVA version a lot better. Aside from filler the current anime is pretty accurate to the manga, so I guess it's problems with the manga version too, but D'arby started freaking out way too much way too soon here. The OVA also cut out a lot of the card game padding and got straight to the point.

"Card game padding," as if it wasn't the point.

The OVA had a better (Japanese) Barby VA and the use of silence and Ambrosio's music worked much better. That said comparing them is unfair because it has to be done by comparing the two as individual episodes instead of as parts of a greater whole. The OVA's style wouldn't have worked as well as it did in the OVA if it was transplanted as-is in the anime (except maybe for Obie's VA).

The OVA is 13 episodes, done as follows

1: Magician's Red
2: Hierophant Green
3: Silver Chariot + Strength
4 and 5: Emperor and Hanged Man
6 and 7: Justice (Avdol returns; Hol Horse defeated)
8 and 9: Geb
10: Osiris
11 - 13: The World

I'm honestly surprised they cut almost all of Egypt but left in the porn smuggling ape. :psyduck:

It's worth noting that the OAV's were done in a crazy order too, '8-13' were actually made first in the late 90's and the earlier part of the story '1-7' were done in the early 2000's.

Do they explain in the OVA why Joseph and Co. can't just fly a plane to Cairo? Because it seems like most of these Stand Users wouldn't be able to stop them.

The first seven OVA episodes were also made ten years after the last six so it's not like they planned to keep in the porn ape but cut most of Egypt. If you see it as planned with the number of episodes already set in mind it makes more sense; so if it's originally "ok we have six 30 minute episodes to do this, what do we put in them" it makes somewhat more sense.

The original Jojo adaptation (OVA episodes 8-13) was the product of a time when it was assumed your prospective audience was already familiar with the source material and just wanted to see some of their favorite bits animated. Consequently, bringing this stuff overseas sacrificed a lot of context as more often then not we were denied the bigger picture.

Another example of this would be Teito Monogatari, better known in the West as Doomed Megalopolis, an attempt to cram the better part of a 10-volume "Not even remotely a picture book" novel series into four 40-minute episodes.

Didn't mean to imply it was bad, just that a lot is going to fall through the cracks.

"Why didn't they just fly to Egypt?" is a pretty insignificant question in the grand scheme of a series dedicated to meeting new people and beating them up, but it's that kind of lingering plot thread or absent explanation some people are bound to complain about. :allears:
