Hot Package is a really weird show. Like they have a bunch of weird stuff involving Fabio and then have an actual interview with Kenneth Anger.

Edit: Also hologram Mark McGrath.

This is probably going to feel quaint in the shadow of The Jinx, but guys, watch Bloodline.

It takes a few episodes to really spin up, and when it does, it's not like it's anything revolutionary...but holy gently caress, watch Bloodline.

The op for the thread compared it to damages and mad men. Convince me it isn't anything like either of those. Or don't. We don't all need to like the same stuff.

Especially at 34:15. Dick van Dyke is the typical Columbo culprit, and it is such a kick to see how quickly he becomes unraveled once he realizes where Columbo had him.

Yep, reminds of a few years ago, I had a cute co-worker I was charge of training, so I tried chatting her up. It was a bit slow at work, so the subject turned TV. It turned out we both like Star Trek. (I'm not ashamed to admit that I went to a few cons back in the day.) Then she starts geeking out to find a fellow Trekkie, and then just totally freaked me out, and started telling me all about her plans for a Star Trek themed wedding, despite the fact that she was single.

By that point I was just politely trying to walk away. Even lonely nerds can appreciate the wisdom of 'Don't stick your dick in crazy.' When the woman you're hitting on reveals her Federation Wedding plans, it's best to walk away.

I like Star Trek, but I don't stalk Star Trek.

There was an example of that in West Wing, where a staffer was wearing a Star Trek pin and Josh basically sat her down and told her that everyone has hobbies, but in the West Wing there's a much higher standard of professionalism and appearance and it's not okay to publicly display your hobbies while working 250 ft from the Oval Office.

Every time I ever considered watching Parenthood the people I know who watch it (or this thread) gave me the sense that they were both recommending it as a good show to me while quietly motioning for me to run away because it would crush my soul.

And I already watch Shameless for that.

I kind of hated Parenthood. It was fine on a technical level (decent story, acting, etc) but I kind of hated most of the characters except Camille, Joel, Jasmine and Jabar. Something about the J names...

Anyway, I liked Julia until the second-to-last season when she finally wore thin on me, which happens to be about the same time I checked out of the show for good. I don't actually know why I stuck with it as long as I did, it really left me with a knot in my stomach after every episode, usually because of something Zeke or Crosby or Adam did/said.

Does The Newsroom pick up past season 1?

The West Wing was great, but this feels like they took the exact same formula and applied it to a news group minus all the amazing characters and proper setting for the deep, profound importance they want you to feel 10 times an episode.

You brought up Mad Men, not me, making the comparison at all tells me there must be some similarity in how people might see them, or perhaps I should have taken you at face value, I don't know. But it's not like both of us aren't guilty of being hyperbolic a lot of the time. Whatever that has to do with "the hottest take" I don't know, or even what that would mean, I just hated Mad Men.

Yeah, I'm at the end of season 5 (5-19) right now and I can't help but think that I would have left Julia too. Amber cries a lot but she seems like the smartest person on the show.
