If you're old and write a lot of letters you can sometimes get them to lobby on your behalf to government and local body departments if they think ignoring you might generate bad publicity.

I saw Craig Foss standing alone, looking vey bored outside Kmart in Hastings handing out flyers. He had the "why am I doing this" look on his face. My wife told him that she didn't wAnt his pamphlet of lies. I took one. Looked at it, laughed out loud, turned around and put it in the asb atm bin thing. It was good to know that he watched me do all that.

Most people won't understand the ramifications on what spying on allies means considering most people think politicians are all liers, fools and crooks - so spying on politicians means very little. And when it comes to human rights it's even worse. Most people I've spoken to (admitedly a limited number) don't even know what rights they have let alone the fact those rights need protecting.
