Would it be better for India to lose in the semi or the final? I think the semi.

Nah, you want them to as close to victory as possible so that the fall is even greater.

You want them to bowl first and be set 400 to win. You want kohli to put 150 on in 100 balls. You want dhoni to be there at the last ball, 6 to win. You want him to give it the helicopter. You want it to be sailing to the boundary. You want the Dan to be there. You want him to catch it. You want to see the tears.

Yeah, but if they get that close they'll claim they were the best and only lost because of fluke.

I'd like to see them get rolled, losing five wickets to DRS adjudicated LBW.

India needs to be completely destroyed England vs NZ style in a semi final where there is no doubt they are a fraud team.

I hope they concede 350 and are all out for 90 in the 15th.

The South Africans at work copped a fair bit of ribbing this morning at staff briefing, and one of them said he couldn't sleep at all because he was so angry about losing. He'll be supporting the Black Caps in the final because "they've got a South African."

It sounds like ABdV is taking the loss quite hard. He has a team containing some of the best players in the world, both destructive batsmen, fearsome bowlers, and spectacular fielders; he has the weight of a nation eager for victory; as well as getting screwed by the rain which took away the juiciest overs to score from.

I ... I think I feel sorry for a South African captain.

Cricket is weird guys.

Lads. That was loving epic.

I'm so hungover and mentally drained but can't stop smiling. Reading this thread this morning has amazing. So loving proud.

The best thing about this tournament is how many of our players have really stood up when we've needed them to. Ross Taylor aside the whole team is just full of confidence and have a ton of mental fortitude.

If we go on to win on Sunday I think Boult will be named player of the tournament and rightly so but Dan Vettori has been so important to us in almost every game. I was honestly not sure he should even be picked as a starter before the world cup due to his huge injury lay offs, decline with the bat and Nathan McCullum doing a decent job...but like with Elliott I'm so glad to be wrong. Would love to see him retire with a winners medal.

Honestly, I think the rain and subsequent D/L adjusted overs cost the Proteas more than any fielding errors. They would have likely had a fairly defendable total to work with, that the Black Caps could not have chased down and the fielding errors that came later probably would not have been as costly, assuming they would have happened.

Or they would have got about 350 and we would have chased that down as easily as we chased down 300 in 43 overs

It's almost like choosing to bat first and making runs at a snail's pace in the initial overs is costly in a rain-adjusted match! Who would have thought.

Also SA chose to bat first surely knowing there was a real risk of rain.

AB is cool. I have no problems with the South African team. If we had lost I would have wanted them to win.

They played well and, like us, we're amazing in the field but also made some costly mistakes. Mistakes born from nerves as opposed to technical ability too.

Not sure where this South African circle jerk has come from, they loving choked again, it wasn't a top tier choke for the ages, but it was solid.

Batting like Ian Bell for the first 15 overs even though there was rain about was really dumb and then AB blowing a run out I would have trusted my 3 year old with

They choked as much as NZ choked. We missed some catches and run out opportunities too. It's a high pressure match, there will be mistakes.

South Africa were looking oddly fragile at times. I dunno where the gently caress their bowling attack was for some of it, Steyn never really got going at all.

I know, but I thought he might at least run through the UAE or someone.

Says something about how shallow their bowling depth is as well, choosing to keep playing him at 75% rather than someone else.

The answer is, mate, because I want to do you slowly. There has to be a bit of sport in this for all of us. In the psychological battle stakes, we are stripped down and ready to go. I want to see those ashen-faced performances; I want more of them. I want to be encouraged. I want to see you squirm.

I love that guy Imran Baig trying to correct him while being completely wrong (KP is obviously referring to the other semi in Sydney)

And yeah Steyne looks like a guy who's been carrying an injury all tournament.

That match could have easily gone either way and when its that close, and both teams made errors, you can't really call it a choke.

A choke to me is throwing away a really winnable position. At no time in that match was either team really in that situation. It was two amazing teams playing amazing cricket and making mistakes that are natural in a high pressure semi final.

On the rain subject, I think McCullum's blitzkrieg massively changed the game. For all the talk about AB's late-innings barrage getting hampered by the weather, they probably still weren't going to score much beyond 350 which would be a bit over 7 RPO for the chase. As it was, the revised target was 6.93 RPO so they were basically chasing 345-350 anyway.

McCullum going crazy the way he did early on just meant it was a run-a-ball chase for most of the innings, which feels way more comfortable.

Well yeah its a problem.

Having to get 10 overs from JP and AB is not exactly ideal. Tahir bowled quite well in the knockouts and Morkel was good. Philander would have been a problem IMO at the MCG. He's not great in Australia anyway but he looked very, very underdone.

They were just flat in general besides when they stomped on Sri Lanka.

Saffers have nothing to complain about with the weather, though a lot of them on my FB are. AB had slowed down a bit and Miller was out, they don't have a lot of batting talent down their order. I think 10/over off those last 7 would've been on the cards, but the runs would've only been coming from one end at that point so any more than that is unlikely. On the other side of things, BMac batted the way he always does (after 8 innings his S/R is 191, average 41), it's not like he did that specially because of the reduced overs.

Unrelated but I thought Henry did really well. Remind me why Milne was in the squad ahead of him anyway?
