Ted Cruz taking Obamacare.

Ted Cruz going on Obamacare
http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/24/politics/ted-cruz-obamacare/index.html

quote:

The newly announced Republican presidential candidate told CNN's Dana Bash on Tuesday that he will sign up for health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act -- a law he has been on a crusade to kill.

"We'll be getting new health insurance and we'll presumably do it through my job with the Senate, and so we'll be on the federal exchange with millions of others on the federal exchange," Cruz said.

Asked whether he would accept the government subsidy available to lawmakers and congressional staffers for their health care coverage through the ACA, Cruz said he will "follow the text of the law."

"I strongly oppose the exemption that President Obama illegally put in place for members of Congress because (Senate Minority Leader) Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats didn't want to be under the same rules as the American people," Cruz said, before repeating: "I believe we should follow the text of the law."

Cruz's admission comes one day after CNN first reported that the senator would no longer have access to health benefits through his wife's employer, Goldman Sachs. Heidi Cruz, a managing director at the firm's Houston office, has gone on unpaid leave for the duration of the senator's presidential campaign and will not have access to the company's benefits during that time.

I guess they mean FITAP along with food stamps?

It's people responding to whatever they think of as welfare - I just think it unlikely that they'd include medical care in that after hearing healthcare as option, even if they normally have a nebulous definition of welfare that includes it. But then holding conflicting views is a thing people do, so maybe they do.

I don't remember the fellas name, but it was essentially a poison pill amendment included by a GOP senator that required congress and their staff get their insurance on the exchange instead of the federal government provided plan. And it actually does the opposite of making them exempt, it forces them to use "Obamacare"(get insurance on the exchanges) instead of having an employer provided plan.

Chuck Grassley.

I wonder how smug he felt when he proposed it, and how defeated he felt when he realized that Democrats both knew what his game was and went along with it.

In an update from the World's Greatest Deliberative Body, Senator Cornyn introduced an amendment to the budget that would replace the GOP budget with Obama's budget so that all of the Republican Senators could register a vote against Obama's budget. Senator Sanders then objected noting that Cornyn's replacement wasn't Obama's actual budget proposal and was missing key provisions. The vote on the amendment failed, 1-98.

The Senate was never going to vote on the Democrats' budget.

The House will, later this week in their "Queen of the Hill" contest. Their vote on the rule passed today.

It's prefaced on the idea of Cruz as a ballsy outsider who plays by his own rules, man, separate from those stodgy GOP establishment types Obama's been kicking the poo poo out of (and who not coincidentally all loathe Cruz for being such a consistent, contrarian rear end in a top hat).

Of course, this doesn't stand up to basic scrutiny, or such penetrating questions like, "so why was Reid able to get a dozen Obama nominees confirmed at the 11th hour of 2014, anyway?"

There might be some interesting voting experiments in the 2016 primary race.

Massachusetts is considering Instant Runoff Voting for ballots cast by overseas military personnel, with the reasoning that they have to cast their ballots long before the actual primary and their first choice candidate might have dropped out by the time their vote is counted.

Meanwhile, Utah is considering online voting, so congratulations Ron Paul on winning the 2016 Utah Caucuses!

How does that work from an Equal Protection standpoint? Some voters get different ballots under different rules? I mean on the one hand, they're only using second/third/etc choices if the higher choices drop from the primary, but it just seems weird.

A thousandth scandal has hit the White House, Begoniaghazi.

[T]he recent exit of head florist Laura Dowling, who’d been in the job since 2009, has been a much quieter affair. So hush hush, in fact, that most outside of 1600 Penn knew nothing about it. There’s still no official comment on why Dowling is no longer at the White House, but according to a source with close ties to current residence staffers, she was escorted from the building on Friday Feb. 13.

...

Hours after we put in a call to Dowling’s Alexandria floral design shop, Intérieurs et Fleurs, she issued a statement via the law firm Sidley Austin.

“After almost 6 years as Chief Floral Designer at the White House, I have resigned in order to pursue exciting new opportunities and explore my passion for floral artistry and design,” she said. “Over the next few weeks and months, I’ll be launching a new platform for my work as an author, speaker, instructor and design consultant that builds on the creative ideas and partnerships I’ve formed during my tenure there. It’s been such an honor to work at the White House and I will always be grateful for this incredible opportunity.”

Scott Walker now wants to ruin Weekends

quote:

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a leading aspirant for the Republican nomination for president, made his state the 25th "right-to-work" state in the nation on March 9 when he signed a measure passed by the Republican-controlled legislature.

He may soon get another crack at a worker-unfriendly law: Legislators have introduced a bill to abolish employees' legal right to at least one day off per week.

State law currently allows factory or retail employees to work seven days or more in a row for a limited period, but they and their employer have to jointly petition the Department of Workforce Development for a waiver. These petitions apparently number a couple of hundred a year. The new proposal would allow workers to "voluntarily choose" to work without a day of rest. The state agency wouldn't have a say.

It can't be a secret what "voluntarily" really means in this context. As Marquette University law professor Paul Secunda told the Nation, the measure "completely ignores the power dynamic in the workplace, where workers often have a proverbial gun to the head." Workers will know that if the boss demands it, they'll be volunteering or else.

The guys state is in sweltering debt, companies are packing their bags and leaving town, and he's just doing nothing but salivating over the Kochs.

I still remember American history class, how before legal protections, rail workers would have their legs cut off by train accidents and have to keep working if they wanted to not die in the streets.

It's incredible how there's a major political party that wants to bring that all back.

People literally fought and died fighting companies for these rights before the Federal Government had to bring in the National Guard to stop private security firms from gunning down unions to get these rights.

And these fuckers are just rolling it all back, while at the same time Scott Walker is about to skip a $108 billion dollar debt payment, which flies directly in the fact of the CPAC and GOPs promise to cut debt and support the Middle Class.
