Map looks good IMO. My guess is it pretty accurately depicts details of the game world. Reminds me of Morrowind's map. If you look closely, you can see that Vizima and Khaer Moren are both cut off from the rest of the map. But they also seem to have quite large open areas attached to them, if my hunch is correct. So I think they've included these areas in a good way.

I can't see the swamp we've seen so much of before, is that the area next to Oxenfurt?

I 'quested' effectively for ~10 hours and reached level 7. The last skill tier unlocks at lvl 50
The 980 playing fluidly on maxed out 1080p includes hairworks, which was said to be a huge performance hit
You can't enter every building but the blocks are tastefully done. Every interior looks lovingly hand-crafted
Sex stuff is not as blunt and easy to achieve as in W1
2 huge cities, dozens of settlements each with their own little story. Farms and tons of craftsmen are outside the cities
Roaming cats will open swinging doors
Roads are relatively safe, if you wish to explore early you can ride past bandits even if they outlevel you by a lot
Your horse can follow roads on some kind of autopilot for more relaxing long distance travel
All helper interface options like quest arrows etc are toggleable
Control scheme will auto-toggle between controller and KB+M layout, depending on what you use at the time
KB+M controls on par with W2, a little mushy but may be improved
You should play this with a controller, really
Playing on hard with a controller feels a lot like Dark Souls 2 or Bloodbourne, very responsive combat
Dark mode is fixed at game start, all others are switchable
Ultra settings are not a huge difference, it's mostly vegetation density and hair/skin tesselation gimmicks
People still don't care if you rummage through their stuff and steal everything, but if a guard see it he will react (not mentioned how)
Mind boggling amount of content that's actually good, sneers at DA:I comparison
1 restart, 1 camera angle bug and one ambient horse stuck on a 10ft high pillar to everyones amusement over 2 days
Gore and severed body parts, especially in mounted combat and heavy swings
Ciri parts are.. different. No RPG, just story telling vehicles akin a AAA action game
Loads of loot, inventory is not too consolized, carfting & disassembling at blacksmiths
Potions and bombs are more important, but the system is greatly simplified to reduce annoyance, too many people completely skipped them in W1/2.
You must unlock each type/level once, then can use whatever whenever as long as you have the ingredients in your inventory

Hard is really hard. You no longer regenerate health for meditating on hard for example
Everything seems carefully placed and scripted, no 'random' encounters or uncontrolled emergent AI
Time limit on critical dialogue options, what Geralt says may or may not always correlate with your intentions
Price negotiation minigame for bounties, makes you feel like a Witcher in charge and not a fetch boy
Hearthstone-esque card collection minigame, prize fistfights no longer QTE
Endurance horse races akin to RDR
To world was 'split up' to make the city ingame maps more readable without zooming in on them, very short loading and saving times (presumably on SSD and 16GB ram)
The huge island region was split from no-mans-land so you don't have to endure a long boat ride
There are critical story bubble maps you have to resolve before being able to leave, but they can be huge. Caer Morhen can be explored for several hours

Comparing the combat to Bloodborne is a huge compliment in my book. I'm really excited to play this game. The Ciri stuffs sounds odd, but hey I like Ciri so I'm ok with her being more plot heavy.

eXXon posted:

Sounds like an open world RPG to me. I would imagine that you can still kill them if you're skilled enough, and that stays true to The Witcher. Geralt has had his rear end handed to him by less in the books.

Not Witcher 3 related but it's been bugging me for a long time.

Remember at the very beginning of Witcher 2, when Geralt is having the dream about running from the Wild Hunt again. He collapses and then two witchers run out and help him. One of them is Lambert and the other is Berengar. The problem with this is that in Witcher 1, they made it a point that Berengar hated other witchers and never hung out at Kaer Morhen so what's up with him being there to retrieve Geralt?

Just kidding. So long as it's engaging, I'll collect how many whatevers. It's just lovely when the collection gameplay loop is 'go here, fight four dudes, collect' over and over again with no real difference.
