But why does everyone always make fun of JR Smith like he's not good at just about everything on the court :[ Maybe in 2016 they'll see the ring and they'll know. When JR Smith is the focal point of the offense he tends to try to do way too much and as such look stupid and terrible.

EvanTH posted:I dare you all to watch Charlotte@Washington tonight You know how Randy Wittman said his team takes open midrange shots, well it's true, they generate more open midrange shots than anyone else. And in fact only two teams (Indiana is the other) generate a large amount of open midrange shots. http://nyloncalculus.com/2015/03/27/freelance-friday-why-the-atlanta-hawks-offense-might-be-in-trouble/ You can learn all that and more here. The title is about the Hawks creating an incredible amount of open three point shots and the concern that it might not hold up during the playoffs. Some other stuff that backs up some stuff that some of us like to say quote:I have one short note for Houston, Moreyball. What the last figure shows once again is that Houston’s frequency of midrange shots (or the lack thereof) is impressive and unprecedented. At the same time, it shows that Houston does not at all produce open shots. This might be part of the explanation for their middling offensive efficiency and puts an asterisk on the idea that the absolute focus on shot selection automatically leads to great results. But once again, if you look at their roster, you can also see that it is not as star-powered as other teams. Dejan Bimble fucked around with this message at 21:54 on Mar 27, 2015 |

I don't hate watching midrange, but I agree with your point. 99% of teams have no business featuring the midrange, but they need to be competent in it so that opponents can't ignore midrange and overload in the paint and on the three point line. Make them have to work that much harder on defense.

Given what they are doing, I think he likely would have re-hurt his foot even if they had sat him longer. If it needs to be grafted now it would have been a matter of time before that happened again.
