Even if one of Rio or BHP didn't exist, they would still take the same tactic. One event that can potentially change things is whether the ACCC gets new powers in competition laws to look at an effects test. An effects test would mean the ACCC would have the right to go after companies whose market dominance causes the -effect- of lessening competition. It was a recommendation in the draft competition white paper, and if it comes into law, the ACCC are within their rights to go after BHP and Rio for anti-competitive behaviour, because their production levels can be seen to have the effect of lessening competition over the long term. All it takes is to push out the smaller players, and then a "tightening up of production" back to normal levels, and all of a sudden we're back at $70 iron ore with 2-3 major players, all the smaller players being closed or swallowed up, and the mining industry too scared to enter incase the majors try it again.

I can't imagine they would never remove the @hotmail alias, just that you wouldn't be able to sign up anymore. The fact that thousands of websites use email address as an unchangeable username makes this equivalent to just turning it off.

I get what you're saying but it happened, although perhaps it was more avoidable than I remember. Since I moved to gmail long before I never went through it myself and didn't check loopholes but there was definitely a very big push to get people migrated to outlook. ^ also that, it's not as impossible as you're saying for it to be shut off, see every old person who won't leave bigpond for better isps because MY EMAIL Edit again to say I checked and it was a forced migration, everyone now has a new @outlook as their primary email and their old @hotmail as an alias. These people are married to their lovely email addresses. G-Spot Run fucked around with this message at 14:46 on Mar 27, 2015 |

There was no forced migration of anything other than the web interface changing from hotmail.com to live.com/outlook.com You never had to choose or avoid anything to keep your hotmail address.

I went to a baptist primary school which was later taken over by the Anglican schools corporation and when I said rape was a hate crime when I was in year six (1999) I got shot down by the vice principal who said the truth was in the middle and that rape survivors should be expected to be bitter and vengeful and therefore unreliable. My parents were called because I was sassy and back talked them by saying that maybe they were the reason rape victims are bitter. We were also taught in kindergarten that dinosaurs were not real, so my mum took my bro and me up to sydney that weekend to go to the museum to look at fossils and dinosaur skeletons and I strolled in to the next show and tell with a trilobite. My year six matriculation award was 'Fruity Gordo, winner of the "I did it my way" award'. Because they had to give everyone something and literally all they could come up with for me was 'other' despite my consistently topping every standardised state test and making it to regional and state swimming championships three years in a row. Ban religious schools. I was lucky as gently caress to have my mum who encouraged me to be awesome and try my best despite being continually shat on by the school and my peers, and to have escaped up to sydney when my parents finally divorced so I could go to an actual school from year 10 which actually wanted students to learn how to think. If I had stayed at that loving school in that loving town I would pretty much definitely have killed myself by the time I turned 18. I'll be headed up to vote after breakfast. I have mostly decided on my preference distribution. 1 and 2 are Greens and Labor respectively. Last place is Fred Nile's party. I'm probably going to put No Land Tax in 3 because as much as I hate whiny single issue parties, I hate the Libs more.

Just got back from voting. Five libs, 1 Nile-ist, 1 Labor, and 1 elderly Greens person doing HTV at my local polling station. I saw a depressing number of people with the Nile HTV card (More than 0). There were no sausages, not that I could eat them anyway. I had a bacon, egg, and hash brown sandwich instead at a local sandwich shop.
