Melbourne weather is pretty much perfect according to the BOM. Over 90000 - possibly a record breaking crowd - that's something you want to turn up your speakers to hear. You win the toss - bat first or bowl first? Discuss.

What, 90,000??

I'm loving making GBS threads my pants over here. Haven't been this nervous for a sporting event since the 09 AFL Grand Final. I won't too much if we lose a close game but the only blowout I wanna see is in Australia's favour.

The pre-game show is talking about the size of the MCG vs Eden Park. It's a good thing that Eden Park is our biggest ground and that it's totally a valid comparison or else they might have come across as total shitheels.

From the article: "Crowe said he had decided against chemotherapy and was instead trying natural treatments."

Maybe he was beyond conventional medicine, and at the 'try anything' stage? Wasn't there some young, photogenic, 'natural healing' type who died this year after promoting this poo poo? Coffee enemas, fruit smoothies, etc.? Cancer is a loving dirty fighter, and you've got to go scorched earth to beat the bastard. I get that people want to 'own' their treatment to feel in control, but biological processes don't really respond to positive vibes.

Off topic anyway. Not my place to judge someone looking down that road.

He went through chemo etc last time around but when the cancer came back even worse he said gently caress that poo poo and is just letting it be. He is under no illusions about alternative therapies doing anything of consequence, chances are it just means he's smoking weed.

Doesn't Starc have a chance to be the most successful bowler at a World Cup ever today?

First ten overs of both digs crucial. Need to get McCullum early and see of Southee and Boult.

The answer is, mate, because I want to do you slowly. There has to be a bit of sport in this for all of us. In the psychological battle stakes, we are stripped down and ready to go. I want to see those ashen-faced performances; I want more of them. I want to be encouraged. I want to see you squirm.

Weirdly enough, I was super nervous before the India game but not for this one. I guess this means I'd be super pissed off about losing to India, but losing to NZ isn't that bad

When cancer returns it is usually at the stage when any treatment will only prolong your life for a short time at a cost of suffering through a horrible treatment. Some people choose to accept their fate and just let it run its course.

Boult and Starc should just settle this man to man, cancel the actual game and just have them bowl at each other until one man is left standing.

The problem for NZ is that in the absolute best case scenario, with the ball doing absolutely nothing in the air or off the seam, it's still travelling at 152km/h.

The only thing they can really do with the pitch is take Vettori out of the game but you know he's going to go for about 4 an over no matter what so there's no point trying.

They face Adam Milne bowling at that speed in the nets everyday so I don't think that speed is gonna bother them too much at the top of the order

Yea the days of NZ having a hugely inferior bowling attack are over. We can compete on pace and seam reasonably well now. Starc and Johnson are just that little bit more consistent.

I like Adam Milne and I think he could be a key part of the team in the future but he bowled maybe two yorkers in the entire World Cup. Starc seems to be able to produce full overs of them. The top order can hopefully deal with that but it's a big ask for part timers, or even specialist batsmen without their eye in.
