You want a physiotherapist, not a Chiropractor. As far as actual medicine, Chiropractic practices are largely considered pseudoscience outside of some treatment of lower back pain, but in most cases its only temporary relief.

Let me put it in car terms: Do mechanical things EVER fix themselves? No. They only get worse unless properly repaired, no matter how much you manipulate the part. Your skeletal system is largely a mechanical object, and if your chiropractor is saying you are risking a slipped disk, it may be even worse than that.

GO see an actual doctor. Chiropractor is an unprotected term, and they're all scam artists. Put as much stock in "chiropractor" as you do in "palm reader."

But yeah, chiropractors are largely somewhere between scam artists and quacks and I'd recommend someone with actual medical creds. You only have one back.

Back problems are basically the worst. I pulled a muscle in my back last year and was out for a few weeks, and as that healed I started getting extremely bad sciatica nerve pain. My right leg and foot were had a numb pins & needles feeling for weeks while it got better. Rolling over in bed was a 2 minute ordeal, I disgustingly had to pee in a few bottles because walking to the bathroom was too painful. Wiping up after #2 was not happening, I just had to take a shower every time I went. When I walked on crutches it felt like my spine was a needle and would break into 2 pieces at any moment.

What gave me this excruciating pain for 4+ weeks? I bent down to clean up some coffee and came up too fast. Thats it.

Be careful with your back, you need it for stuff.

Dr. Bigelow: What can I do for you?

Louie: Uh, well, I hurt my back today really bad. Uh. Can you help me with my back? I mean...

Dr. Bigelow: What's wrong with your back?

Louie: It hurts.

Dr. Bigelow: My professional diagnosis is your back hurts.

Louie: Well, what can I do about it?

Dr. Bigelow: Nothing.

Louie: Nothing?

Dr. Bigelow: The problem is you're using it wrong. The back isn't done evolving yet. You see, the spine is a row of vertebrae. It was designed to be horizontal. Then people came along and used it vertical. Wasn't meant for that. So the disks get all floppy, swollen. Pop out left, pop out right. It'll take another. I'd say 20,000 years to get straightened out. Till then, it's going to keep hurting.

Louie: So that's it?

Dr. Bigelow: It's an engineering design problem. It's a misallocation. We were given a clothesline and we're using it as a flagpole.

Louie: So what should I do?

Dr. Bigelow: Use your back as it was intended. Walk around on your hands and feet. Or accept the fact that your back is going to hurt sometimes. Be very grateful for the moments that it doesn't. Every second spent without back pain is a lucky second. String enough of those lucky seconds together, you have a lucky minute.

Louie: Okay.

Dr. Bigelow: Come see me when you have something fun like a blood disease. That's what I went to school for.

Those ads on Pandora that constantly pop up are wasted on me. Same goes for McDonald's. I haven't had gross fast food like that in over a decade now. For a burger, it has got to be In n Out, or 5 Guys, or Chik Fil A. Anything like Taco Bell, McD's, Burger King, Wendy's - yuck!

In other news, my wife took the kids to her parents for a few days so I could install my awesome new cabinet system she wanted me to buy in the 3rd bay of the garage. I was up until 12:30 last night getting work done. I think I will go get some lag bolts and anchors to drill into the foundation and bolt the cabinets to the wall for safety measures. I have 3 overhead cabinets to hang on the wall next. Might go see F&F7 tonight by myself. I have an awesome wife.

I was down for 4 months, then a 3 month relapse later that year and pain every single day ever since (this was 4 years ago now)- was it because I regularly stacked Bridgestone 11R24.5 M775s to the ceiling of our warehouse by hand? (I could also get M844s 6 high as long as the last 2 were 385/65s, 425s and 445s were a no go) Nope, I used good technique for that. What did it was lifting a 245/75R16 up onto the deck of a 4 post hoist with slightly lovely posture and a little jerk in the wrong direction. It's so loving easy to wreck a spine, and once you do you never get it back 100%.

Hate to tell you this, but unless there is something glaringly wrong with your back like a slipped or herniated disk or something, there's really not a whole lot anyone can do for you. Your best bet is to exercise and focus on your core because that's what supports your back. Do lots of sit ups.

Sit ups don't do anything and will make the pain worse. Something like planks are way more sound and productive.

Yep. This set here. I ordered it when it was $600 off. $1100 delivered on a freight truck on a pallet is pretty reasonable! i also ordered the rubber floor mat at the same time because why not. I am going to pull the mat under the cabinets a little bit so that if/when I drop something in the work space it should be easy to get. I bought an LED shop light to hang under the overhead cabinets and I have my old 42" flat screen and a spare Apple TV that I am going to mount on the left wall. I will just need to find a good stool and I will be set up to be out in the garage at night and not bothering anyone at all. My garage ceiling in the 3rd bay is about 14 feet tall. I would like to get a 2 post hydraulic lift (the one that Costco sells) but I will need to modify my garage door/opener to a high lift since it is the standard height.

My injury was pretty similar to his (tissue only, but very close to slipping a disc, and identical symptoms) and physio helped massively. Going straight to situps while it's still actively hosed up is a terrible idea, since you've got to get it to stop the swelling and spasms before you start straining poo poo with the intent of strengthening the muscle.
I couldn't even do planks until about 2 months into my treatment.

It was a general suggestion, as in strengthen your abs. I use ab straps in conjunction with a pull up bar myself.

Obviously it depends on the injury, but for general "back pain" it's about the best you're going to do short of popping pills the rest of your life.

drat that looks pretty nice. I still haven't decided on a work bench for the garage but may fix that this weekend.

Crap is this what VW Caddy's are going for these days - http://www.ebay.com/itm/321714256937 I mean sure it's been restored and has a swapped engine but that seems high, I'll admit I haven't been watching these that closely the last few years.
