I'm looking for LP's with a lot of vocal commentary that can be taken on its own, with or without the video. Basically, I load LP's and podcasts onto my phone before work so I have something other than music to listen to. Sometimes I can watch the video, but more often than not I'm helping a customer or doing something (i work alone, so I can listen to something while i'm busy). LP's that work for this are a lot of supergreatfriend's stuff, rongpuraes (but not really regular RPs, since a lot of the jokes reference things happening on screen), Chip and Ironicus.

...

I know you need decent commentary for a good LP, but sometimes reactions to visual stuff are a big part of it and I don't want to miss big chunks of funny stuff at work. Anything y'all can suggest? Oh, and streams are cool too.

Let's Play 25 Years of Final Fantasy. Seriously. is pretty good for this. Two chill dudes playing FF1 (for now) and I enjoy their insights and side-discussions (especially the D&D stuff atm as FF1 borrowed a lot from that).

They describe a lot of the monster design and discuss the game's dialogue too.

Yapping Eevee's Hamtaro: Rainbow Rescue thread is absolutely goddamned adorable and more people should be reading it.

Seriously. Even though it's a Hamtaro game and a lot of people probably skip over it because of that, it's actually a fairly solid game by a guy who knows what he's doing with it. It's a good read, and so :3: it could very well kill you if you're not prepared for the levels of adorable in it.

To further vouch for this, the Hamtaro games are Nintendo-published games, developed by AlphaDream. That studio is made of ex-Square people and are also known for being the guys who made the excellent Mario & Luigi games.

I can't think of any obscure JRPGs off the top of my head, but Platinum Games tends to put out very complex games and as such, their LPs are very meticulous about pointing out and explaining the nuances of the game. Chip Cheezum did fantastic and very in-depth LPs of Metal Gear Rising and The Wonderful 101, and Yoshesque is the Bayonetta master and has finished a Bayonetta 1 LP and is currently doing Bayonetta 2.

Chip and Ironicus, Slowbeef and Diabeetus, JordanKai and his partner, are there more LP'rs like this you'd recommend? I can't even really place my finger on what makes them entertaining, but I would definitely like more of that.

A large part of it is that they're not douche-y, and the accents aren't heavy I think.

Yeah, I like a lot of Chip/Ironicus and Slowbeef/Diabeetus. I havenīt watched any of JordanKaiīs LPs.
I like LPīs of games I would never play myself. I like the insight into horrible games and what makes them horrible, and I also like games that are incredibly weird, but still so original that you wish they were better known.

One of my favorites lately in the weird category is Supergreatfriendīs LP of MODE. The game never even got a wide release, it was an FMV game with a confusing interface and game crashing bugs, but still SGF managed to showcase every possible option and every branch in the story and make the viewer see the brilliance and originality. Also, the gameīs director showed up in the thread to give his insights (and some tinfoilhat rambling).

If we're still talking great LP duos, all my favorites have been listed, but Phenwah does all his LPs with Lobst and a rotating third and they always maintain a flow and chemistry on par with any of those mentioned above. Haze is their essential viewing go-to, but their LP of The Fifth Element was my favorite of last year, and I've enjoyed all their other work (except Red Steel, which is from 2008 and really shows its age).

A bit off topic, but I'm trying to remember the name of an old LP. It was of some indie game translated from Czech I believe, and it was a sort of fantasy game where you never got to do anything important, everyone insulted you, and you just kept getting sent to do disgusting menial tasks. I don't know if it was ever archived, but I remember that it was finished.

Let me put it this way: I am Czech and I am NOT touching those with a ten foot pole. The development scene here was pretty weird: there was no experience or talent working on game design in the nineties and the only thing that really happened were point-and-click adventures.
Why? They are simple - no need for an engine capable of anything more than scripted events. So there is a rich history of lovely "comedic" adventure games ranging from mid-nineties (which is where the Polda series got started - based on the all-time favorite folk pastime, policeman jokes, then it moved to parodying local celebrities and politicians) to now.
Now, whatever you think about the contemporary "serious" adventure games (and those are indeed horrible because there is not a single competent writer in the entire country) there is one thing to keep in mind: they used to be so. much. worse.
