Uh.
Fat, dumpy, old Manson is such a sad look. The beverage commercial I had to watch to see that video looked more stylish and interesting than anything in that video.

Marilyn Manson without the imagery or high concept ideas. Blech.

Sweet, I just won tickets for MM in a couple weeks. Not sure if its the Milwaukee or Chicago show. Any word on whos touring with?
I saw Manson last year(?) touring with Cooper, but unfortunately was working so even though i was leaning on the stage I didn't get to just stand and watch the show. Apparently security watching is one of the things that is liable to set him off so.... Nothing too crazy for tales, theres some known stalker chick with mental issues that we were on watch for. His cat was happy so he was happy?

I saw a great Rammstein cover band try to moonlight as a Manson cover band, but they sucked on that front.

Manson really needs a producer to tell him what the gently caress is up. The music is fairly rockin but the vocals are dry and trash. He just can't holler anymore , which is fine I suppose, but bury that down in the mix.

Word is the live show is badass and Manson got himself into shape.

I think he does this to avoid paying royalties to Scott Putesky. Portrait is my favorite era too.

They wouldn't have to pay him royalties to perform the song live. That setlist has a song written by him anyway-- "Irresponsible Hate Anthem."

Are you sure they don't pay any royalties? I could've sworn I read that somewhere. IHA has shared songwriting credit I believe.

Yeah. Live performance royalties technically exist, but in practice, the songwriters do not see that money. The venues pay licensing fees to the performance rights organizations so they can legally have a band perform the songs, but they only pay out to the top grossing tours every year. Manson would never come close to cracking that list.

Actually, it looks like they just changed how it works in the last couple of years, so you can get performance royalties regardless of how big your tour is.

Thinking about checking out the show in Cincy. I saw Manson on Valentine's day in '97 and I'm having a difficult time believing it will be a better show than that, but I'd like to see Smashing Pumpkins. Not sure if I should be excited or embarrassed/depressed about being old. :sigh:

I dunno. You've got two acts that are very obviously about 90% nostalgia acts, and probably share a pretty big crowd of mutual fans. Why not take advantage of that? Aside from that, it isn't a huge tour or anything, we're only talking two months of dates. I think it makes pretty good business sense to go about it the way they are.

The only problem I can think of is that they might face problems with who will open, who will close, and who will have longer set times. Say what you will about Billy, but he's been doing better with vocals this year, and Manson seems like he's in the same boat. If nothing else, I think it'll be a good time. At this point, I don't think much of anyone expects circa 1997-8 manson, or 1996 pumpkins-level performances, and if they do, they're sorta delusional.

Oh, and also ticket prices are pretty reasonable. After the last NIN/Soundgarden tour being 100+ a ticket, the highest ticket price for this tour is 69.50.

That's a lot of words to say that while, yeah, it's certainly some ego stroking, I don't think it's too ridiculous on either part.
