She's going to get covered, as she should, regardless of which insurance plan it's under. She and her child deserve the best medical care that Medicaid, or her current insurance provider, has to offer.

Maybe you could help the officer find insurance on the federal exchange? I'm sure they'd be able to find something before the birth at a reasonable, subsidized rate.

Also confused as to how I could be oblivious to the realities of the working poor when you weren't even aware that Medicaid had retroactive eligibility. Hey guys I hear a Republican said something stupid Let's talk about that instead of this god awful race to the peak of Mount Shitpost Alternately, an actual question - I cannot remember the name of it, but there's an idea that a just society is one in which we can look at it and say "yes, without knowing anything about where I'd wind up in this society, I would be happy to be a part of it regardless of my status within it." Ring any bells? I'm trying to find it for an argument about SNAP. Certainly, she should be sued for the cost of the insurance in case her husband's actions impact the credit of the municipality or its insurers.

The wife isn't being punished, her husband is. It was his coverage, and he did something bad, so keeping to the same standards others are held to, he should lose it when he gets fired. The wife is a victim of her husband's ill-considered actions, not from the system operating fairly. Good luck to her in finding a new insurance plan that is not dependent on her husband, who is a murderer. If universal health insurance was a thing, this wouldn't be a problem.
