Played a match in the Clemson and just brutalized a Kongo that made the mistake of going for the middle cap while I was there - pop smoke and drove right at him and unleashed a full torpedo spread from both sides. Enjoy the trip back to port! Saw a Miyogi coming in on the other entrance and dropped him a welcome gift as well. Somehow or another that fucker angled himself just right so that 4 torpedoes didn't kill him, but he managed to take me out. Oh well, we still won the match. That gave me enough xp to buy the Nicholas, and I repeated my earlier performance with a run up the middle. Absolutely raped 2 Phoenix's - first one was prepared, but couldn't hit poo poo, so I got away with minor damage while also avoiding the 2 destroyers from the other team that tried to gang up on me. Fortunately a fellow destroyer joined the fun and drove one off, giving me a chance to get away and an unimpeded run on the second Phoenix. Guess he wasn't even looking in my direction because he made no move to evade. Turned around and went after the destroyer who had tried to hit me from behind and blew him up with a couple salvos of HE. Last victim was another Miyogi coming up a channel between two close islands. Smoke popped and torpedoes away - Victim #4. Was going after a carrier when the fight ended after we hit 1000 points. But the best thing that happened was when I popped a Cleveland with an opening salvo in my Kongo from 14km away. 3 citadel hits, all 3 critical, and he popped like a balloon. It just went downhill for the opposing team after that.

I just wanted to also post that I've seen an atlantis and a kitakami at work. Both were on the same map. The atlantis is hilarious on shell output. The player was doing single shots so it would go low front gun, then mid front, high front, and then similar to the rear. By the time the rears were done, the front was loaded again shortly after. It was pretty drat hilarious. In the not as hilarious because the kitakami was on the enemy team, I got the see the power of those drat 10x launchers in play. This happened on ocean which probably made the kitakami player wet himself. Basically, there were these waves of torpedos heading to our group. It was a terrible moment to realize you were going to have to eat one of them as there was just too many to dodge them all.

Personally, I'd like to see the Kitakami "buffed" to use slower torps with 20km range. Being able to provide area denial, dick over chokepoints and murder inattenttive fools from outside normal spotting range would give it a real gimmick instead of it being a glorified suicide sled.

It wasn't until later that I discovered that instead of being a coordinated destroyer wall, it was probably the kitakami.

I realized with the Fuso that my problems landing shots were because of the lagging hitbox, once I figured that out all of a sudden it flung death all over the place. I found a couple streamers that were okay to watch but they didnt have a bunch of keys they had to string them out pretty far between to try and keep a viewership. I managed to do it for like a week before i realized i was just basically getting more and more frustrated every time i didnt get one and was starting to hate the game because of it. So basically over the course of a week I went from a person who was super hype about the game and would have bought one of their stupid boat packages to get into the CBT to a dude who basically only reads this thread every so often now and doesn't care nearly as much about this game. I'm also definitely not dropping $30 on a virtual boat i cant even loving play with. What I'm trying to say is that Wargaming's marketing department is great at their jobs and should definitely stay the course they've picked. I might even remember the game exists by the time they move to OBT!

It's crazy to think how many people shelled out money for the boats too. Like $30 for one boat. Compare that to like $10 for a champion in league. It's crazy. This is coming from someone who has spent over $500 on mobile games in the past year.

The open ocean map actually seems to work out suprisingly well from the few times I got matches on it. Many pubbies seem to be confused enough by the lack of any island cover or defining features to actually bumble towards the enemy instead of trying to camp the backfield and you generally get a fun mix of DD dogfights taking place up front while the bigger boats keep shooting at each other over the smoky morass until one side decides to go on the offensive somewhere and things become truly heated.

If you had to pick which line to get to tier 10, the US line would be it, at that point the difference in torps is small, and the IJN still keeps their bad gun performance where US DDs fast firing guns just get better

That was... unpleasant. (The reason the Kitakami and Atlanta were all modeled is because they were being considered as T10 destroyer line enders) Also, you can cause unholy havoc popping out and laying a wall of torps. Incidentally, the Gremyaschy is pretty drat solid. The guns on it may turn slow but they reload real fast and unlike the US destroyer guns they fly very fast. They take half as long to fly to 12 km. The torps have good range, and the depth charges are painted a soothing shade of blue. The US ships are better at beating destroyers in close, the Gremyaschy is better at beating destroyers at ~6+km. I've found the mid-high tier US DDs to be quite nice in other aspects, too--I regularly switch between the stock hull for the extra gun at the risk of getting gibbed more often, and the hardier upgraded hull with better torpedo options (and, according to my placebo effect, soft stats).

Yeah, I don't know what it is, but the sims isn't clicking with me at all. Destroyer gameplay has always been difficult for me though. Every time I've tried them, it has ended badly for me without much effort by the enemy team. I did walk away in my first game with a 1k xp + 100k credit game though in a loss with premium. Along with successfully torping an enemy destroyer. That was hilarious. I blindly threw torps in a certain area and then went back to shell the destroyer. I had already citadel hit him once and then he wandered into my torps and ate two of them followed by flooding and then sunk. I guess he didn't have time to hit repair before the flooding dot ate him. Yes, I spent for the $50 package. I'll get better at it eventually. Also, toss my st louis captain into the sims. No listed penalty even though it was technically a different ship class. So there is that for premiums unlike tanks.

If you got any of the premium ships, you probably can afford the Albany; I think it's 500 tokens. It's a tier 2 cruiser and to borrow someone else's phrasing, "It's got a Warhammer 40K thing" It's pretty slow, 20 knots compared to 26 for the Chester or 22 for the St. Louis, and pathetic range, only 6.3 km. I can't actually put my finger on why it kicks rear end, but I seem to do really well in it. I suspect that the armor configuration on it is very weird or something. I think it's a fun ship, it's worth goofing around in for the price.
