On the subject of Carlos Martinez getting lefties out: his change up has continued to look very impressive against them today. Gave up a solo shot to Bruce, but is otherwise handling the lefty heavy lineup of the Reds.

Edit: And then gave up another solo shot to Billy Hamilton...

If he can keep doing what he did today, I will take that all day long. 6 IP, 2BB, 4H, 2ER, 8Ks.

Fantastic for a late round/waiver wire guy.

Just mounted a comeback from down 11-2 to up 7-6 despite hitting .179 for the week as a team. Then I lost it again when Fernando Rodney raised my ERA from 3.89 to 4.31

Need an Ortiz homer to tie, two to win.

That's a nice set of 11 dynasty points there, it would be a shame if 3 rings were to happen with it
The guy who was stomping me this week thanks to Gonzo forgot to set enough pitchers to hit the minimum innings limit. I'm gonna end up with one more SB than him.

I'll take the win even if it's on a technicality. :getin:

It's a problem you think we need to explain ourselves.
So I've heard good things for the future of Rusney Castillo, but Yahoo has some pretty rosey projections for him:

.336, 81 runs, 27 HR, 80 RBI, 40 SB.

Where did they come up with that?

It must be based largely on his majors performace last year in 10 games, which is stupid, but Yahoo.

Hah, same boat here - I picked up Derrik Norris last week and have been sitting Gattis until he gets his poo poo together. So far, no regrets.

Re: small sample size - I drafted three hitters (Gattis, Machado, Carter) who combined for 1 hit and three pitchers (Latos, Kennedy, Holland) who couldn't break 3 IP together :gonk:

Pedro Alvarez making Anthony Rendon's absence a lot more palatable :toot:

Also, starting to consider the possibility of flipping Scherzer and somebody else to upgrade somewhere. I know its early, but I'm thinking my pitching might be able to handle it.

CI Votto
MI Segura

SP Scherzer, Samardzija, Ventura, Wacha, Keuchel, C. Martinez, T. Walker, Bauer

Ideas I have in mind include scenarios like Scherzer + Ramirez for Tulo or Scherzer + Martin for Harper.

What do you guys think?

In a vacuum I like that deal for Tulo, but I'd be wary about having Samardzjia as my number one pitcher, even with the depth you have at the backend of your rotation. There's a lot of upside there, but also a lot of risk. As for the Harper trade, I am very bullish on Harper this year, but I think your outfield is solid enough that looking to upgrade SS is smarter.

Ottavino pitched like three days in a row before today so Betancourt was going to get the save op regardless. It's going to be an open share between the two until someone emerges and my money is on Ottavino unless Betancourt really wows.

Managers always say it's going to be a committee, just in case the guy they put in sucks so it's easier to switch them out without drama. But there almost never is a committee. The same way Walt Weiss said he was giving Hawkins a "little breather" from closing, when there's no way he's really planning on putting him back.

It's possible it's Ottavino, but I'd lean towards Betancourt just because he has the experience and he was perfect tonight and has been great going back to spring.
