Nobody gives a poo poo about the Huckabee prisoner release and if he ever decides to get serious he has the best chance of winning (by a small margin) Iowa of anyone in the field.

But that will require him to stop running a scampaign, and there's no sign of that happening yet.

Yeah, that was mid-March. Last week he launched this. As we all know, it's perfectly normal for a Presidential campaign to charge $7.95/mo for updates from the candidate.

How the gently caress can someone make "viral" videos for a living...on purpose? I thought the whole point of going viral is you never really know when some massive link bait site like HuffPost or whatever will pick it up so you never know which of your dozens of lovely rear end youtube videos will go viral, if at all.

Replace "video" with "comic" and that's The Oatmeal's actual (stated, I think?) creative/business strategy.

It's basically the same principle that was used to design Garfield, just for online audiences.

Garfield was the original Popular Cat Memes Illustrated.

Texas involves elections where the Democrats have to call themselves something else like Blue Dogs and prove how similar to Republicans they are in order to be viable. Except in Austin. Austin is weird. I love Austin.

Austin isn't weird, Austin is a mildly more racist version of a Generic City from better parts of the country.

As long as the times refuse to change, we're going to make a hell of a racket.

quote:

Actually, I thought it was sub-par, and I make viral videos for a living, including some political commercials and online announcement videos.
The video is 2:15. She doesn't even show up until 1:30. The first 90 seconds show a bunch of smiling people - 80% smiling women, I happen to notice - and not much else.
As a TV ad, maybe this would work. Maybe even as a convention ad. But online, you don't want to waste anyone's time. Think about it- what do all the viral videos you've seen have in common? They get right into the start.
Does anyone want to go and watch that a second time? Or even share it with their friends? Would you even have known about it if it wasn't HRC's announcment video?
As for the content, it is slickly produced, and it's clear that the video is targeting her strong demographics - women, Hispanics, and blue-collar manufacturing industry. But the video was SO full of "smiling people" and so slickly produced, and so well... like every other political ad you've ever seen except it somehow says even less despite taking five times the amount of time... that I'm wondering if this won't backfire. It didn't say anything other than: "See! I'm Hillary Clinton! I'm a woman! Like you! And I'm running for President!"
Look, I obviously have a dog in the fight here. Only Ted Cruz seems to be worse than Hillary Clinton on the BIG issue - the undue influence of money in politics which is grinding everything in Washington to a dead-halt. So take my words with a grain of salt. but I suspect that if she continues to run her campaign on platitudes, she'll get trounced in either the general election or in the primary.

Emphasis mine. If she does continue to run the campaign on platitudes, who will be doing this theoretical 'trouncing'? There's not really a candidate that can touch her, though I am a little curious about how Republican math for the big picture is shaping up. Is the plan to just hope that the Obama coalitions don't happen again?

At the local level, yes, but beyond that we're gerrymandered so hilariously that 90% of the city is represented by terrible Republican Congressmen. My district has a TEENY tendril that snakes into Austin, nabbing our neighborhood and a few others, then spreading all the way out to the suburbs of Houston, 150ish miles away.

Primaries are a magical time, when anything can happen. Last time we got a black guy, people were flipping out, it was pretty rad

Jeb isn't a lock on the R side. The Republican party is crazy fractured and there's a chance they might put up a real lunatic.

I think even later into the election cycle than this in 07/08 everyone thought it was going to be Hillary Clinton and Rudy Guliani. Candidate predictions this early are such a crap shoot.
