If you ever get deployed, they'll fall apart within 15 minutes of setting feet in theater, but they're comfortable and sturdy enough for office wear and tear. And even though you're a doctor, take some time to sit down and figure out all of the gay military poo poo so you aren't that O3 running around the FST with their IOTV falling apart during an attack.

If you are in an actual hospital unit and dont actually go to the field get a pair of the cheap original jungle style tan boots They go pretty cheap on ebay, less than 50 bux if you are cheap. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-TAN-DESERT-VIBRAM-HOT-WEATHER-COMBAT-BOOTS-MILITARY-13R-ARMY-/171749144175 Wellco are usually good and these. You could order this and have a new pair every day. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-6-Military-Wellco-Army-Desert-Tan-Hot-Dry-Weather-Combat-Boots-Size-13-R-/251847821289

They don't teach you guys how to suture? Wow. I thought that would be basic basics. Ok so I care less about money than I do about comfort. I'm on my feet 80 hours a week plus. You guys have more experience than I do. Who makes the most padded comfortable closest to sneaker shoe that exists? What is the guy wearing who bitches the least about his feet? I had a pair of Altamas that were pretty drat comfortable, but I've also heard good things about the Nike boots. If you got a bunch of money, you should order a bunch of different pairs from an online store that accepts returns, try them all out and then return the ones you didn't like.

Rocky's were my favorite boot way back when, though Altamas were good too. I've heard good things about Oakley's boots (off of Standard Issue, where they do their military pro-deals), but haven't ever worn them myself.

http://uspatriottactical.com/belleville-one-xero-ultra-light-assault-boot-320-620/ These are actually really solid. Feel like you're wearing slippers with a combat boot sole, and they're bellevilles so they'll last forever whether you like them or not. They run a bit narrow so try the wide size out. They actually sell these at clothing and sales so you can try them out there.

They touched on it super quick in medic school, but they need a doc to sign off on them in order to do it in a TMC/CSH environment. You'd need to teach them, then sign off on them being able to do so.

I'm super lame and have only ever worn Bellevilles. But they seem to be indestructible: I had a pair that I wore all through ROTC, BOLC, FTXs, and 3/4 of the way through Afghanistan until they literally fell off of my feet because the sole cracked.

Bellevilles from clothing and sales are what wrecked my feet. For the longest time, I didn't know you could choose your boot and I thought I was stuck with those shits for forever. I think I'm gonna try a different brand. I use nike shoes now for running and they work well. I'd hope the boots will work as well. I think I will try a few different options. I'm on my feet enough it's worth it to find me something that doesn't leave me throbbing at the end of the day.

Those Nike ones are probably what you want, they are pretty sweet. The oakley boots are probably the best all round boot for durability and comfort, they ended up being all the boots I had. You ain't rucking and poo poo though so I'd go with the nikes. Another honorable mention if they still make them are the rocky s2v. poo poo is pretty nice.

Oh god I'm in Cuba and everything sucks. On the flipside they're offering to let me extend an additional 9 months (making a year total) if I agree to switch over to PAO. I'm a 68W and I love doing medic stuff on the civ side but army money is good compared to that (in AZ EMTs make less than $10/hour and paramedics make less than $14, lowest in the nation I could find). Also I have no loving clue what I'm doing, because I'm a 68W not MPAD wtf why am I here. But suck it up for a year and have enough dough to go to school afterwards...? But I'm not insane so there's no way I would accept that, right?

Before you pick your boot, it might be worth double checking whether your chain of command has a bug up their rear end when it comes to your footware, otherwise see if whatever you buy is compliant to the 670-1 they updated last year. (Just so you don't have to buy another pair of boots. Inprocessing at Carson I heard try-hards bitching about Nike

Spicy Guacamole posted:Adding to this; while the Nikes are awesome, the original design doesn't comply with 670-1. However, there is a now a version that does comply, so if you decide on Nikes, make sure you get that one. I've been rocking the 670-1 compliant version for the last 6 months and they've held up really well. They're super light and comfortable. My only complaint is the fact that the laces have worn small holes in the fabric portion of the boot, although it's not noticeable when the boots are laced and worn. One thing with Nike is that they don't offer wide sizes, so chances are you'll need to go up half a size if you normally wear wide. Reposted from the EVE thread:TheQuietWilds posted:As someone who was previously in the military, if you can make a business plan that relies on scamming junior enlisted people, that's probably a pretty good business plan. Collectively, they're about as money savvy as hi-sec pubbies in eve (I should totally put a faction DDA on my tristan, then I'll win all my duels!). We had to have a class once a year telling explaining why you shouldn't take payday loans. I should start using my military background to pull off scams and specifically target veterans in eve until one of them tries to use the SRA (they literally passed a law trying to make it less lucrative to scam junior enlisted). My favorite IRL vet scam was a prior Navy master chief who opened a car dealership 75 miles from Camp Lejune and offered E1-3 free rides out there to look at cars. There used to be this vehicle accessory shop near Fort Hood that had a thing going where they would lease rims for cars to junior enlisted for $70 a week. $70 a week. For rims As far as I could tell, this scam worked because so many junior enlisted were absolutely convinced nice rims were the key to getting girls. Because chicks dig rims, man.

Thankfully my platoon sergeant was pretty legit and just said "gently caress this" and relayed some kind of message up the chain. Never heard about it again.

We had an older dude who was a college e4 (not a dumb guy all things considered, he honestly just wanted to serve in an enlisted capacity and had a big interest in history/war movies) that was pretty financially stable. Dude decides he wants a place of his own since living in the barracks with a bunch of 18-twentysomethings who trash the place every weekend gets a little old. He gets a mortgage for a quaint little house in a quiet neighborhood 30 minutes from post for something like 4-500$ a month. PSG/PL get wind of it and nearly give him a negative counseling for doing it under his own volition and not telling anyone. Nothing ever really came out of it since the dude made it abundantly clear he knew what he was doing. Last I heard, he actually ended up getting sick of the commute/started living with a girlfriend and turned it into an investment property making around $300 a month in profit. Are you seriously required to consult with your first line before you make a major purchase? Like, is that a regulation? That was always one of those things they heavily implied was a regulation but never cited anything. I might just be misremembering things but I am fairly sure one guy got smoked for buying a car without telling anyone once. Justin Tyme fucked around with this message at 21:31 on Apr 16, 2015 |
