Because the EU is both the dumbest and the greatest thing, he got a story out of it and it turns out that the ice cream maker was a memory core full of rebellion contacts. This man in a single scene single-handedly saved the rebellion by taking that ice cream maker. The Star Wars EU is an amazing thing. It would have been so much better if he'd actually been saving all the ice cream.

As good as the cover is, the stuff inside is even better and that's why they should buy the book.

It's also funny how alien cultures in the EU are often defined by the one individual that appeared in the movie. We saw one Rodian bounty hunter in Star Wars, so now the entire Rodian race is obsessed with hunting. We saw a couple of Gamorrean brutes in Return of the Jedi, and they concluded their entire race is stupid and violent. Don't get me started on the Toydarians.

That's a really common thing in fantasy and sci fi, having entire races be defined by a single personality trait. It's always struck me as a little racist.

It's super racist (speciest?). Klingons? Savage warriors, every last one, but with a strict honor code. Ferengi? Scheming money grubbers. Wookies? Techno-savants, but otherwise harrier Klingons. Trandosians? Scalier, dumber Wookies. Krogans? Smarter Trandosians. Humans? Well, actually, all humans are unique individuals, with different skills, opinions and religious beliefs and futhermore...

The Clone Wars series had a conflict between peaceful and militant Mandalorians. There was also a rogue jedi who was the same species as that 4-armed bartender guy in Episode 2. He dual-wielded dual-blade sabres.

If anything, I'd say the Krogan were way more varied and developed than Wookiees. Plus, y'know, Poet Krogan and Posh Gentleman Krogan. Yeah, they're fatalistic as a people in general but mainly because it's been thousands of years of poo poo after poo poo piled on them.

That was great because it prompted the writer who'd spent the past five years building up the Mandalorians as badass mercenary space marines cum gentleman farmers throw a fit and quit writing Star Wars books. I'm not sure if the Toydarians or Neimoidians are worse. Probably the Toydarians. The Neimoidians are cowardly, grasping Space Japanese Businessmen; their lead is called Nute Gunray, which I'm fairly sure George Lucas said was meant to be a reference Newt Gingrich and Ronald Reagan. Nah, the Toydarians are worse. "Mind tricks don't work on me,

Baron Bifford posted:The word "racism" only applies when you make incorrect generalizations about real ethnic groups. With fictional races, the author is free to make them whatever he wants. Trouble only starts when your fictional race is meant to be an allegory for a real ethnic group, eg Toydarians are kinda like your stereotypical money-grubbing Jews in space. At least they get cool spaceships.
