Yay they actually fixed the netcode, works pretty much perfectly now. Used to be I had to have my firewall on before I could play, I think it automatically throttled the crazy pinging going on or something. Though I still get some bugs. Today I accidentally pressed save replay after winning, it got stuck uploading, I Alt+F4'd and got hit with -128pp. Also my game crashes to desktop every time someone has certain characters in their name, leading into the same -128. Oh well. Oh, and I guess I'm still up for games against other EU people, add me at http://steamcommunity.com//id/zingih (don't mind the sieg heiling animes, I'm not actually a Japanese nazi.) I've a good-ish Hakan and lots of bad characters.

The Steamworks P2P api was apparently hosed

I just played a handful of matches on steam while playing in training mode (so no private rooms). Mostly I got bodied, but I did manage to blow up a Seth who had links but not footsies (wtf). The important part was that the connections were good to great, so that's a very welcome change.

That's pretty understandable. I'm that kind of person who has spent a whole bunch of time in training mode but never actually plays anyone so my timings are good and I can perform links somewhat consistently but don't have any idea how to actually fight a person. Well, I used to be like that, but I haven't touched SF4 in like a year. Now that the netcode is fixed probably gonna get back into the game.

Is there a most played list? I was the #3 Thawk for several months last year. I'm terrible, but 99% of online cant handle safejumps and empty jump SPDs. A lot of the top 10 players I run into pull the plug as soon as they fall behind. Keep in mind that Guy's floaty down MP elbow drop and his flip elbow drop are two different moves with different hitboxes/hurtboxes and so on. A good low profile move still beats both even after d.MP's hitbox buff in Ultra but neutral jump normals are a better response to flipping because it stops him from jumping over you and flip elbow is hard to get a grounded punish on. Sometimes Guy will accidentally airthrow you out of your neutral jump but that's fine, the reward is worth it. Also for Chun in particular, her nj.HK might be the best neutral jump air to air in the game but nj.HP should be even better against flip, beastly damage and I assume you can get stomps into the corner or a U2 follow up for like ~400 damage.

I play Deejay. Seriously, gently caress Dhalsim everyday all day. That match is impossible. I know this is a rant but i just lost 9-1 and it's not that I'm salty, I just don't understand. My win was due to a lucky U2 on cr.hp, the guy knew the matchup and I couldn't do poo poo.

When you play bad characters, you have bad matchups. If you play really bad characters, you have near-unwinnable matchups.

Like several other famously "bad" SF4 characters including Fei, Cammy and Gen, Ultra Deejay is one innocuous-looking buff away from top tier. Thankfully Capcom knows what's up and will never give it to him. Sim does clobber him though, none of Deejay's solid distance-closing tools change the fact that random limbs hurt and EX Upblast hell is a real place. At least cr.MP counterpokes are really satisfying

I just got a fightstick (I think it's the entry level Qanba stuff), and I had Ultra on PC but I haven't played it much since it didn't feel right with a controller. any tips on how to get started? I've always wanted to play SF at a good level but my country has a relatively small SF scene and we don't have any arcades anymore. I've been practicing DP FADC Ultra 1 on Ryu like every single day so I can do it cleanly but I don't know where to start with the more advanced stuff like plinking.
