I can only speak for myself, but "I took on something that sounded really interesting, but it didn't work out" from a master's student/grad goes in the win column during interviewing, rather than working against you. I'd ask lots of questions about what you'd do differently or why it went poorly, but mostly because it would be an interesting line of conversation.

I have a ton of friends in Chico, CA and it's the place I've spent the most time. It's a nice little college town Also I went to college in Rochester, NY. It's a nice town full of friendly people if you don't mind the 3-5 feet of snow. They overbuilt the highway system since they massively overestimated population growth, so it has some of the lightest traffic in the country!
