Fudou, Gunzou. The Face of the Franchise Killer. 2004.
Tokimemo Girl's Side, chapter 6: Let's show the guys that we know

6/18: Siren's first track meet

Siren: We're up against Daitokyo High in today's track meet.
Siren: (Even if it's just a practice meet, let's try and win this one!)

Wakaoji: Fudou-san.
Siren: Good morning, Wakaoji-sensei.
Wakaoji: You're pretty fired up this morning.
Wakaoji: Should I expect great things out of you today?
Siren: Yeah, you bet!

Siren: (I lost... what a shame.)

Due to the demands of high school life, Siren is probably going to be an awful athlete for most of her high school career. It'll be a nice change of pace from winning Nationals every time, to be honest.

Wakaoji: Good work today, Fudou-san.
Siren: But I lost.
Wakaoji: But you finished the race.
Wakaoji: You get the A for Affort Award.
Siren: (Ugh... that just makes it worse.)

:eng101: Yes, it's a lame joke. What he says here in Japanese is pretty lame too - he shoehorns 賞 (shou, "award") at the end of a regular sentence, turning "You tried your best, didn't you?" into the name of an award. It's hard to explain.

6/25: Making a date with Teru

I stopped including date calls in the LP a while ago, but I usually make an exception for the first time calling a boy - especially when it's such a thrilling experience as talking to Teru.

Teru: Hello, Saeki residence.
Siren: Oh, hi, Saeki-kun. It's me, Siren.
Teru: ...Huh?
Siren: Did you not hear me? It's me, Fudou Siren.
Teru: Oh. You need something?
Siren: Well...
Siren: Do you wanna go to the movies with me on the 9th?
Teru: Me? Go with you?
Teru: ...Why?
Siren: Huh? No particular reason, I guess.
Teru: Eh, sure, I guess.
Siren: Alright, we'll meet in front of the train station on the 9th, then.
Teru: Got it.

What a scintillating conversation. You can truly smell the love in the air!

7/3-7/7: Midterms

10th: Saeki Teru
129th: Fudou Siren
223rd: Nishimoto Haruhi
292nd: Hariya Kounoshin

No real surprises here! Under normal circumstances, Teru would probably be a much worse student, but given that he's the Main Character of a High School Romance(tm), he's smart and athletic because waiting tables and surfing really lends itself to strong academics, right?

Siren: Not bad, I guess.
Siren: Oh, hey Harry.
Harry: Ren. You did pretty okay, I guess.
Harry: But kinda half-assed.
Siren: (Ugh... I need to do better next time.)

Pretty big words from the guy who came in dead last.

7/9: Siren's magical first date

Siren: (Oh, Saeki-kun's already here.)
Siren: Sorry, did I keep you waiting?
Teru: Yes, you did.
Siren: Oh. Uh, sorry.

I don't know if this is refreshing bluntness or just Teru being Teru, but at least it's honest.

Teru: Hey, you know, those clothes...
Siren: Huh? What, this?
Teru: Yeah.
Teru: I, uh, you know...
Teru: I really like that look.
Siren: (Yay! He complimented me!)

I forgot to get a picture, but Siren wore a simple one piece dress to this date. It's Pure type, so now we know. Also, please note Awkward Engrish Boy on the left, in the background. He's still as awkward as he was in the first Girl's Side.

Teru: I might fall asleep.
Teru: If I do, don't wake me up.

Teru: Dibs on the middle seat.
Siren: Sure.
Teru: Oh hey, it's starting.

This movie is "Slasher vs. Frankenstein", an obvious riff on Freddy vs. Jason. Teru haaaaaates horror, leading to this set of choices:

Siren: That movie was the wrong choice.
Teru: Yeah. I'm definitely seeing that one in my dreams tonight.
Siren: (Well, not bad, I guess.)

But it's okay! We can fix this! Magical save state time fairy, go!

7/9: Siren's actual first date on the waterfront

Siren: (It doesn't look like Saeki-kun is here yet.)
Teru: Oh. Hey, I didn't expect you to be here early.
Siren: Actually, you're late, Saeki-kun.

Teru: Oh. Whatever. Let's go.

Teru: What, you want me to do tricks? That one's "Shake", right?

I think Siren just tried to ram her fist into his armpit and he's smiling. He took that whole thing surprisingly well. Props, surfer boy.

Siren: So, want to go down the shoreline?
Teru: OK, let's go.
Teru: You know... they've kinda been doing a lot of development around here, haven't they?
Option 1: It's such a trendy place now!
Option 2: You think they can do more stuff here?
Option 3: I can't stand the loss of our natural treasures!

Siren: I can't stand the loss of our natural treasures!
Teru: Yeah. You know, when you look at it from out on the waves...
Teru: It's pretty sad to see the shoreline change like this.
Siren: (Yay! I made a great impression!)

Teru: You know, that kinda felt like a date.
Teru: What did we actually do today?
Teru: Anyway, I'm heading home. Later.

I can only imagine Siren and Haruhi talking about this line from Teru.

Siren: Do you think I should tell him?
Haruhi: Nah, keep doin' whatcha doin', it's funnier that way.

I don't know if I should feel sorry for Teru or not.

7/18: Teru's birthday

Siren: Hey, it's Teru's birthday tomorrow!
Siren: I should get him a present.
Option 1: Picture frame with sea shells
Option 2: The Big Book of Giant Monsters
Option 3: Surfing Photos From Around the World

We now know for a fact that he'll despise option 2, so let's go with the picture frame.

Teru: Ren. What the hell did you call me out here for?
Siren: Here! It's your birthday present.
Teru: For me?
Teru: ...Why?
Siren: No reason.
Siren: Why does that matter? Open it up!

Teru: Pretty nice...
Teru: Actually, it's awesome.
Teru: You know what I like, don't you?
Siren: Right?
Teru: Right. I'll treasure it.
Siren: (Yayyy, he seemed really happy!)

8/6: Fireworks, literal and figurative.

We spent drat good money on this yukata, and we're going to use it, even if Teru is just a means to an end.

Teru: Hey, you know, your, uh...
Siren: It's called a yukata.
Teru: Yeah.
Siren: What do you think?
Teru: ...Yeah.
Siren: So... you don't like it?

Teru: I like it.
Siren: (Good!)

Teru: We're kinda early.
Teru: Hey, let's go check out the Ennichi festival!

Teru: And don't bother whining at me, I won't buy you anything. Got it?
Siren: Saeki-kun, you're acting like my dad...

Teru: Oh, hey, the show starts soon. Let's head over.

Teru: You know, from this close up, it feels like we can reach out and touch them.
Option 1: The night sky is the canvas of the firework, isn't it!
Option 2: I wonder what happens inside a firework?
Option 3: That was really loud.

Siren: That was really loud.
Teru: Yeah, that'll happen this close.
Teru: But didn't it get your blood pumping and your body moving?
Teru: I got chills.
Siren: (Yay! I made a great impression!)

Teru: You know, that kinda felt like a date.
Teru: What did we actually do today?
Teru: Anyway, I'm heading home. Later.

Unlike the canned responses from other Tokimemo games for the medium affection levels, this actually gets funnier each time I see it.

Siren: Think I should tell him yet?
Haruhi: Hell no! He shows up in a yukata, says ya look good, the two of ya go to a festival, and he STILL don't have a clue?
Haruhi: This is priceless, keep it comin'! Ya better send me a picture of his stupid face when he figures out what's goin' on!

8/14-8/18: Summer camp

Siren: Time for summer camp! I should work hard!
Wakaoji: Fudou-san.
Siren: Hey, Wakaoji-sensei. I'm in your hands this week.
Wakaoji: Oh, you're really fired up, aren't you?
Wakaoji: That's really encouraging. Maybe I'll have you be the trainer this week.
Siren: That's your job, Sensei.

8/17: Gravity is a harsh mistress.

Siren: (Oh no, I'm late! Where's the team, where's the team--)

Track team boy: That's impossible! I can't change all the little things you're talking about!
Track team boy: And you seriously want me to clear the bar when it's that high?
???: Is that so?
Siren: Oh, good morning Wakaoji-sensei.

Wakaoji: You're late, Fudou-san.
Wakaoji: I got here 15 minutes ago.
Siren: I'm sorry. But what's wrong?
Wakaoji: Oh, I almost forgot!
Wakaoji: Are you listening?

Wakaoji: Take off from 3 centimeters deeper.
Wakaoji: Flatten your angle of approach by 2 degrees.
Wakaoji: Tip up your leg--
Track team boy: I told you, that's impossible to do!
Track team boy: If you're going to keep saying it like that, why don't you try it yourself, Waka-chan?

Wakaoji: I see your point.
Track team girl: Waka-sama, you shouldn't bother! You'll get hurt!
Siren: Wakaoji-sensei, you probably shouldn't go this far.
Wakaoji: Eureka!

Wakaoji: And now, I'll prove that it isn't impossible.

Wakaoji: Let's see... use the vector and angular momentum...
Wakaoji: The balance of inertial resistance, gravity, and drag...
Wakaoji: Here we go!

Wakaoji: Hup!
Siren: Whooooa!
*crunch*

Wakaoji: And it's as easy as that.
Siren: That was amazing, Wakaoji-sensei!
Wakaoji: Thank you.
Siren: Sensei... why aren't you getting up?
Wakaoji: My neck and my back have cramped. Please help.

On the plus side, Wakaoji recovers nicely by the time it's Siren's turn to cook the team dinner later that night.

Siren: It's my turn to cook dinner. What should I make?
Option 1: Microwaved curry
Option 2: Curry with the Fudou Siren seal of approval
Option 3: ปูผัดผงกะหรี่ (Poo Pad Pong, Thai crab curry)

As before, Siren's success at this activity is based on her Social stat, and even though she's spent a lot of time hanging out with Haruhi, it's still early in the game. It's time to split the difference and go for 2.

Wakaoji: Ah, you were the camp cook today?
Siren: Yeah, I was.
Wakaoji: I wonder what you made? I'm expecting great things.
.
.
.
Wakaoji: This is the true joy of summer camp.
Wakaoji: Homemade curry is the greatest!
Siren: (Oh good, he ate it all!)

8/18: Freedom

Siren: It's the last day of summer camp.
Wakaoji: I see very good progress in the times you posted over summer camp.
Wakaoji: Let's keep up that momentum in future practices.

Just like in the first Girl's Side, completing summer camp gives Siren a special stat-boosting item - in this case, the Zephyr Shoes, which improve athletics.

8/27: Haruhi and the end of summer

From: Haruhi
Re: Sigh~

School's startin' again soon, ain't it...
I don't think I'll be able ta stand not eatin' all the ice cream and parfait I want whenever I want.

Maybe I should rent some space in Waka-chan's secret fridge, huh?
If he's willin', ya wanna go in on this with me?
Then we can sneak in some snackin' durin' recess!
Alright, we're doin' it fer sure!

Haruhi

8/31: Oh yeah, he's a character in this game

Siren: (This goes here, and then... hey, I feel like I've gotten pretty good at this job)

Motoharu: Yo, Ren.
Siren: Oh, hi Masaki-senpai. Good work today.
Motoharu: You've learned the ropes really quickly.
Motoharu: It's great for everyone that you're a fast learner. Keep it up.
Siren: (Masaki-senpai praised me!)

9/1: The game giveth, the game taketh away.

Unfortunately, in the pursuit of Waka-chan, Siren becomes a good enough student that she attracts the attention of Helmet Boy. Pretend that he isn't wearing his winter blazer and this scene is exactly the same as it goes in his spring introduction.

But more importantly...

Siren: (Oh hey, it's Haruhi-chan.)
Haruhi: *sob*
Siren: (Wait, is she--is she crying?)
Siren: Haruhi-chan?

As a note, Haruhi does not cry pretty. This is the hiccuping, snorting kind of cry she's doing right now.

Haruhi: Oh... Ren!
Siren: Hey, what's wrong? What happened?
Haruhi: Nuh-uh, it ain't nothin' like that...
Haruhi: This book's just so movin'.
Haruhi: *sob* *sniff*
Siren: Wait, is that the romance everyone was talking about a little while ago?
Haruhi: Yuh-huh. I'm super soft to this stuff.
Haruhi: I understand her love for her man so much it hurts...
Haruhi: Aww geez, It's so friggin' saaaad!
Siren: And you were so moved you cried.

Haruhi: At the end, she watches 'im walk off ta follow his dreams, and she whispers...
Haruhi: "I know you can make it to the top of the music world. I'll watch, and wait, and have faith."

Haruhi: And then!
Siren: Yeah?
Haruhi: This is the best friggin' part~
Haruhi: He don't look back--instead, he looks up at the sky and shouts--

Haruhi: "My dreams mean nothing without you! Don't just watch and wait - come with me!"

Haruhi: It's soooo gooood! It's so easy ta put myself in that scene, right?!
Haruhi: I want someone ta say that ta me...
Siren: Did you mean "yourself" and not "myself"?
Haruhi: Wha--uh... nothin'!

Haruhi: Ahahaha, geez, ya should get yer ears checked or somethin'!
Haruhi: Y'know what they say, even a saint ain't got no third cheek to turn!
Siren: I didn't even do it once...

The proverb she quotes basically means "Even Buddha will get angry if you slap him 3 times" - very analogous to the Christian turning of the other cheek.

Haruhi: Now now now now, we don't need ta be sweatin' the small stuff!
Siren: Sure. But about what you mentioned--
Haruhi: Would ya look at the time!
Haruhi: I wish I could talk with ya some more, I really do, but--

Haruhi: Uhhh, buh-bye!
Siren: She ran off...
Siren: (She really got into it when she was talking about that story. She must be a real romantic.)

Next time: Wham, bam, thank you glam

Fudou, Gunzou. The Face of the Franchise Killer. 2004.
Kind of fell off the posting wagon again in the midst of the awful (yet inevitable) Konami news from the past couple weeks, and I just couldn't muster any energy to keep going through a series that its creators chose to abandon instead of living a frustrating and unfulfilling reality. I was newly invigorated by a crazy coincidence that happened today, though.

This is Koji Igarashi, one of the programmers and scenario writers for the first Tokimeki Memorial. Oh, and he went on to work on some Castlevania thing you may have heard of. Last year, he worked up the courage to free himself from the dark clutches of Konami mobile game development hell, and today he announced his return to the genre he fathered. Thanks to a series of wonderful coincidences, I had the privilege of sitting behind him as romscout mercilessly dissected his magnum opus, Symphony of the Night.

I was also able to overcome my own spaghetti-dropping in order to tell him the story of why the Bloodstained announcement and Kickstarter mean so much to me - I've backed the game at the $1500 level and will be providing his team with a picture of ParameterDown.

Stream returns at 6 PM PDT on Thursday. Sensei will be in dokis.

They love money which is why they're focussing on the parts of their business that reliably make money (pachinko and gyms) while videogames require a big investment and can flop badly. I mean, it sucks and every action they've taken as been in the most dickish way possible, but it's not like there aren't obvious reasons why they're doing it.

Yep. Japanese game companies are even more risk-averse than your average game company, and the failures of the last X years are easier to blame on a shrinking demand for console games than an oppressive corporate environment either leading to a spiral of increasingly incestuous games catering to a shrinking audience or awful games that no one was happy with. With that much risk invested in that much budget every time they even think about a console/handheld game, it's very attractive to cut away giant swaths of their business and roll around in the easier money. Sega's doing the same thing, except for their Atlus and The Creative Assembly arms.

It's pretty depressing for a kid who grew up loving Konami and Sega games, but it is what it is.

In addition to what was said above, the main thing is that they want to maximize profits and minimize costs. Rumor has it that the president of Konami has it out for Kojima for example, because he takes too much time and money to make Metal Gear games. Granted, they bring in a lot of money, but he doesn't think it brings in enough to make it worth it.

Probably. Konami has always been a lovely company to work in, so I doubt the artists would give up their craft just cause they got layed off by their douchebag boss.

I honestly hope it folds now. From what I hear it's run by some extremely petulant and vindictive people, this is just them finally being upfront about their bullshit. I mean I get it, Hideo "hey guys I want realistic ice cubes for this cutscene" Kojima is probably not the easiest person to work with, but his games put them on the map.

If you just want to make money without necessarily being famous or anything then it doesn't make sense to work with someone as notoriously mercurial as Kojima, and it certainly doesn't make sense to stay in a business as provably swingy as gaming. Software production is not for the faint of heart and only the absolute most stalwart people want to stay in the game forever. Crowdfunding absolutely does not make things less swingy, as a campaign is outrageously stressful and needs to be built up to over the course of months. You cannot just go to kickstarter and expect to get all the bux, even if you are someone like Iga. A single glance at the Bloodstained page will show you that he's been preparing for this for a long time. And even after the campaign, it's very, very far from easy street. I can speak to this because the company I own runs crowdfunding campaigns for tech startups as one arm of our business.

There are definitely some better ways Konami could have handled this, like splitting off company assets to holding sub-companies and had the overall Konami Corporation basically be a syndicate for Konami Game Studios, Konami Gaming Systems, Konami Fitness Centers, etc. But that presumes that they even think all of their assets currently make sense. If you want to wind down a portion of your business because you don't see a future in it, there's basically no graceful way to do that. Someone is going to get screwed and someone is going to be unhappy. It's the nature of the game. You can argue how it doesn't make sense because of x, y, and z, and you would potentially be very right. But the reality of the situation is that we're not there, we're not looking at the financial reports, and we don't know what the stated goals in the board meetings are. It's quite likely that there are some reasonable goals that just didn't align with :qq: our art :qq:. Which is a shame, for certain.

Anyway, I would not be surprised to see some of these big names continue to use crowdfunding in the near future, though there might be some rather unexpected flops. Like I said, a campaign is a big deal to work up to and you really only get one shot at it. If you have a bad campaign that nobody pays attention to, you can't just come back 3 months later with a new campaign. It looks super bad.

Fudou, Gunzou. The Face of the Franchise Killer. 2004.
Tokimeki Memorial, chapter 7: Your mouth's moving fast, and your brain's moving slow

9/4: Wakaoji's Birthday

The options for Waka's birthday are:

Option 1: A glossary of current slang
Option 2: A manga I drew during class
Option 3: Improve your memory in three easy steps!

Wakaoji's birthday continues the trend of offering gift options that are just plain insulting. We can give him proof that we're not paying attention in class, or a guide to curing his absentmindedness, or we can get him something that might theoretically help him communicate with teenagers.

The correct option is the glossary of current slang, so we go with that.

Siren: Wakaoji-sensei!
Wakaoji: Hello, Fudou-san. Is something wrong?
Siren: Today's your birthday, isn't it, Wakaoji-sensei? I got you a present!
Wakaoji: Oh, that's unfortunate.
Siren: Huh?
Wakaoji: I just received a warning from the head teacher this morning. He was very insistent that I not accept any gifts from students.
Siren: Is that so...
Wakaoji: Exactly so. I am so sorry.
Siren: (He couldn't even take my present.)

Wakaoji will not accept gifts until we reach a higher affection level with him, and in this scattershot run I've built so far, he is pretty far from that affection level. It'd require a decent amount of save scumming to be able to give him this present, and quite frankly that's not important enough to do in year one.

9/10: Raise your freak flag high, Haruhi.

Siren: Huh? Who could be calling?
Haruhi: Hiyadoin'? It's me! Y'know who this is?
Siren: Haruhi-chan, right?
Haruhi: Pretty smart of ya ta figure that out! Good on ya!
Siren: Thanks. But why're you calling in the first place?

Haruhi, you are one of only two people in this game with that accent. It's not that hard.

Haruhi: Whoa, I almost forgot! I was about ta blabber on about nothin' for another half hour.
Haruhi: Y'know, my last phone bill was crazy! Ya think I talk too much?
Siren: Haruhi-chan, you're doing it again.
Haruhi: Oh. Hahaha, sorry.
Haruhi: Alright, I'll get to the point. You busy today? Wanna come out with me?
Haruhi: There's a special, limited-time-only sale of cakes from a famous patissier today!
Haruhi: Only the first thirty people get one, so let's go get in line!
Siren: Yeah, let's go!
Haruhi: Whoa, seriously? You're so awesome! Thanks!
Haruhi: Okay, I'll be waitin' for ya at the entrance to the shopping district.
Haruhi: I might get in line before ya get here, but I'll see ya!

Haruhi: This cake is a freakin' dream come true! I can't believe it!
Siren: I'm glad for you, Haruhi-chan.
Haruhi: This was a great buy! I could eat this all day!
Siren: What?
Haruhi: I'll make a rice bowl! A huge one! My diet can go to hell!
Haruhi: Anyway, I'm really happy about today. Thanks!
Siren: (Cake... and rice?)

Haruhi mixes her metaphors to the point of confusion here. The idiom she uses literally means "I could eat this with three bowls of rice" and means "I love it a lot". But then she talks about making a donburi rice bowl, and things just get confusing.

Haruhi: Thanks a lot for comin' out with me today!
Haruhi: This ain't much in the way of thanks, but here!
Siren: Huh?
Haruhi: I cut out pages from magazines and make my own catalog of sweets.
Haruhi: This is my latest issue, coverin' all the latest and greatest from the last couple weeks!
Siren: Thanks, I'll make sure to read the whole thing.
Haruhi: Oh, whew! This is the first time I've ever shown it to anyone.
Haruhi: I was afraid you'd be all weirded out. Glad you like it!

Siren: (She gave me her handmade catalog! It feels like I've gotten faster at picking up info.)
Haruhi: Thanks again for comin' out today! You were a huge help.
Haruhi: Next time, it's my turn to go out on whatever goofy errand you want, so call me whenever you think of it!
Siren: I will.
Haruhi: Alright, I gotta run. Let's hang out soon!

Is... is scrapbooking cakes and pastries out of magazines weird? Is it normal? Please help. Being a girl is hard.

Anyway, Haruhi's catalog provides a no-fuss +5 to the Social and Fashion stats, which is a pretty good use of a Sunday.

9/16: A normal human conversation with Teru

Skipping the usual "Hey. Let's walk home together." "Why?" "No reason." "Okay, I guess" exchange here - just assume that it happens for all dates and walks home until further notice.

Siren: Hey, so how long have you been helping out at Sangosho, Saeki-kun?
Teru: I only helped a bit when I was in middle school. I really started working a little before the first day of high school.
Siren: Since middle school? That explains why you seem so at home there.
Teru: Back in middle school, all Grandpa allowed me to do was wash dishes and wait a few tables.
Siren: Really? Your grandpa must be really particular about his coffee.

Teru: Yeah. But now, he lets me brew the coffee myself, and every once in a while he lets me try and create my own blends too.
Teru: Oh yeah! The other day, my grandpa actually called me "our barista" to a customer!
Siren: What's a barista? Someone who brews coffee?
Teru: It's not just that. I can't quite explain it, but it's someone who makes sure you only get the best coffee.
Teru: I'm nowhere near that yet.
Teru: I can't really work on it much because I still have to concentrate on school, but once I graduate, I'll work on getting better, and then--
Siren: Mm-hmm?
Teru: --then, well, who knows. That's what I feel, anyway. I'm done talking.
Siren: (He didn't have to cut himself off, I didn't mind.)

These conversations on the way home from school are the only ones where Teru hasn't hopped back and forth between casual/brusque and polite forms of speech, so it's very likely that this is the only time that he relaxes.

9/17: Another track meet...

And another loss. This is going to be a recurring theme in Siren's run, since she is only on the track team to keep up appearances - I'm focusing her stats on being a social butterfly as well as a good student.

9/24: Date with Teru on the observation deck near the Bayside Bridge

Teru: Whoa, cool! The fog's rolling in, and the bridge looks so hazy.
Option 1: I wanna bungee jump from there!
Option 2: It's so beautiful, like a scene from a movie.
Option 3: The light hits the bridge just right from here. It's beautiful.

For reference, if we choose option 1, he calls Siren an adrenaline junkie for a neutral reaction. Option 2, he calls us unimaginative. Thanks, save states!

Siren: The light hits the bridge just right from here. It's beautiful.
Teru: Yeah. They must've put a lot of thought into how the bridge works with the rest of the scenery.
Siren: (The mood's pretty good right now.)

Teru: What're you doing?

Siren: Sorry, I was playing with your bangs and hearts just came flying out of your head. I can put them back in, if you want.

9/27: Chatting with Haruhi after school

Siren: Say, Haruhi-chan...
Haruhi: Yuh-huh?
Siren: Do you have a favorite sport?
Haruhi: I like all of 'em! I think the only sport I don't like is sumo.
Siren: Sumo, eh?

Haruhi: What's with that look? Somethin' weird cross your mind?
Siren: What?
Haruhi: You were makin' a face like you were thinkin' "I bet you'd be good at sumo."
Siren: N, no way, I'd never think that!

Haruhi: Ahaha, I'm just messin' with ya! You sure are a fun one.
Haruhi: But be honest. You thought about it for a second, didn't ya?
Haruhi: I won't get angry, I swear, so 'fess up!
Siren: (Haruhi-chan, you may be smiling, but you're kinda scaring me right now...)

10/1: Field trip #2 with Wakaoji

Wakaoji: I'm no curator, so I really don't know my way around this museum.
Students: Whaaaaat?!
Wakaoji: So, the first person who looks me in the eye will be the teacher for the day.
Wakaoji: Ah-ha.
Siren: ???

Wakaoji: Alright, everyone, a round of applause for today's teacher!
Students: Yay!
Siren: What? Me? Seriously?

Wakaoji: Sensei! I have a question.
Wakaoji: Why do dogu look like that?
Option 1: They're modeled after aliens!
Option 2: I... guess it was the art style of the time.
Option 3: I think they were objects of worship for the native beliefs of the time.

If you're a Darkstalkers fan, then you'll believe option 1. The mini-boss Huitzil/Phobos is modeled after a dogu, and he indeed came from outer space.

Actual scholars don't really know what dogu were used for, but the most common theory is related to option 3, so we choose that one.

Siren: I think they were objects for the native beliefs of the time.
Wakaoji: I see! You really know your stuff. I'm glad I made you teacher for today.
Siren: (Yay! I made a great impression!)

Siren: (And I was a better teacher than he was, too!)

Siren: I learned a lot on this field trip!
Wakaoji: Yes, you did a great job. I had a lot of fun learning alongside all of you.
Wakaoji: A round of applause for today's top student, everyone!
Wakaoji: That's all for today, everyone. See you at school tomorrow.

I know that the end-of-the-day dialogue is canned, but it would've been awesome to flip Wakaoji and Siren's lines here, with Siren being teacher for a day.

10/6: Itaru's birthday

Present 1: Saturn mousepad
Present 2: Super Alloy glasses case
Present 3: How to Win Friends and Influence People

Strangely, there's only one outright insulting gift for our helmeted stick-in-the-mud. The good gift, in this case, is the mousepad with a picture of Saturn on it. I would've liked a Super Alloy glasses case, myself.

Siren: Hikami-kun!
Itaru: No running in the hallway, Fudou-kun!
Siren: Oh. Sorry.
Siren: Anyway, happy birthday! I got you a present!
Itaru: Really? For me?
Siren: Yeah. Here!
Itaru: I'm glad you remembered. Time to open this up.

Itaru: This is--wow. How did you know exactly what I wanted?
Itaru: This is the best present anyone's given me. Thank you.
Siren: (Yay, he really seemed to love it!)

10/7: Harry harries hurried hair

Harry: No way, I'll bet you anything. It takes an hour, at least.
Teru: No, it doesn't.
Siren: (Saeki-kun and Harry?)

Harry: Sup, Ren?
Siren: Hey, Harry. Hey, Saeki-kun.
Teru: Ugh...
Siren: Rude. So, what're you two talking about?
Harry: Hey, what do you think about this guy's hair?
Siren: His hair?

Harry: I figure it takes at least an hour to make his hair look like he didn't spend any time on it.
Siren: Now that you mention it, I bet he does put a lot of effort into that mop.

Teru: It doesn't, and I don't.
Teru: Why's it even matter to you twerps, anyway?

Harry: Hear that? He called us twerps.
Harry: Look, you can either act all cool or you can play honor student. Choose one.
Harry: Hopping between the two just makes you look lame.
Teru: Shut up. Leave me alone.
Siren: (Does Harry really have Saeki-kun on the back foot?)
Siren: (This is pretty fun to watch.)

Every once in a while, we'll stumble into a conversation between two characters that we know. It's a nice touch that TMGS 2 uses to make the game world revolve less around you, as characters can actually be seen interacting with each other without us around.

I don't know if Harry is allowed to call someone else out on trying to act too cool for school and utterly failing.

10/22: Teru at the zoo

I haven't talked as much about Siren's wardrobe as I did about Goonko's wardrobe, but I would like to note the convenient Cold -> Warm chart at the bottom of the dressing room. October's right around when we'll need to start dressing up warm, so it's time to pull out the sweaters and dresses.

Teru: I feel like that giraffe's been staring at us for a while...
Option 1: Maybe he's just curious about us?
Option 2: He's probably scared of you, Saeki-kun.
Option 3: Then let's stare right back at him.

At this point, I figured I'd save, pick the obvious troll option in 3, and reload. Then this happened:

Siren: Then let's stare right back at him.
Teru: Way ahead of you. He just won't blink, will he?
Siren: (Things are going pretty well!)

That was the best answer.

10/26: Siren's birthday

Haruhi: Surpriiiise!
Siren: Whoa! You scared me! What's going on, Haruhi-chan?

Haruhi: Happy birthday! Here, I gotcha a present!
Siren: Thanks, you shouldn't have!
Haruhi: Of course I shoulda! Who doesn't get a present for their bestest friend, huh?
Haruhi: Seeya soon!
Siren: (I'm so happy that Haruhi-chan gave me a present!)

Unlike pretty much every other character in Tokimemo history, Siren takes her gift home before opening it. It's unusually demure.

Siren: (I wonder what she got me?)
Siren: (A compact mirror.)
Siren: (Oh, and she wrote a note, too. It says...)
Haruhi: Use this mirror every day, and watch yourself turn into a great gal!
Siren: (Hahaha, that's so her. Alright, let's make good use of this!)

Haruhi's birthday present is worth +5 Social and +5 Charm.

10/31: Asking Haruhi the hard questions

Siren: Say, Haruhi-chan...
Haruhi: Yuh-huh?
Siren: What kind of music do you like?

Haruhi: Wh, why do ya ask?
Siren: Huh? I just wanted to know what you listen to, that's all.

Haruhi: L, lately, I been... listenin' to a lotta rock...
Siren: Really? Why?
Haruhi: Uh, there, uh, there ain't no real reason!
Haruhi: Ya don't need ta read real deep into it or nothin'.

Haruhi: I just heard it was good, so I figured I'd give it a try, ya know?
Siren: (I wonder why she got so hot and bothered about that? Weird.)

11/11: The school festival

Siren: Our class is running a cafe today. I need to hurry if I want to help set up!

Siren: (Oh, there's Saeki-kun.)
Siren: Saeki-kun!
Teru: Ren.
Teru: What's it like doing slave labor?
Siren: Stop being so negative.
Siren: Say, if you have some time, you should swing by my class' cafe!

Teru: Maybe. Now, I should go back to my leisurely tour of the premises--
Girl A: Hey! There you are, Saeki-kun!
Teru: Crap.

Teru: Erm, hello!
Girl A: Saeki-kun, did you come by my class yet?
Teru: Sorry, I was just about to head that way.
Girl B: Saeki-kun~, come by our class too~!
Teru: Of course. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
Girl C: Whaaaat? Then when will you see me?
Teru: L, look, I'll be there in due time, okay?
Girl A: Hurry up!
Teru: Ha... Hahaha. Well, see you soon!
Siren: (So much for his leisurely tour. I wonder how long it'll take before he can swing by...)

???: Mimimiiiii...
Siren: (Was that Harry's voice?)

Harry: Laaa, laaaa...
Harry: poo poo, my voice just isn't working right. Laaaa!
Siren: (Oh yeah, Harry's going to sing today. I wonder when he's taking the stage?)

Siren: (And there's Hikami-kun.)
Itaru: Take that down this instant!
Itaru: If you keep this up, then I will be forced to revoke your temporary business license.
Boy: Aww, c'mon, can't you just let this slide? It's the centerpiece of our whole booth!

Itaru: Since you did this without permission, I cannot allow it.
Itaru: If you ignore my warning, then I'll shut you down immediately! I don't make exceptions.
Boy: Okay, okay, we'll take it down.
Siren: (Looks like he's on patrol. Hikami-kun goes strictly by the book, even during the festival.)

These appearances are, as usual, based on current affection levels. Haruhi runs around and eats everything in sight, and Wakaoji bemusedly tries to hawk the Young Prince Cafe.

Siren: Thanks for waiting! That's one hot coffee, one black tea, one iced cocoa, and... hmm.
Siren: (This is super busy.)
Yuu: Sis!
Siren: Oh, Yuu-kun! I'm glad you made it.
Yuu: You've been acting kinda careless lately, so I was a little worried about you, Sis, so--
Siren: And what's that supposed to mean?

Yuu: Nothing! I'm here because you said the cake was delicious. That's all.
Siren: Alright, sir. What would you like to order?
Yuu: Ummm, I'll have the tea and cake set, please!

Yuu: Thanks! That was pretty good!
Siren: Uh-huh.
Yuu: But you know, Sis, you're pretty good at being a waitress. You were acting really professional.
Siren: Really? Me, acting professional?
Yuu: Yeah, you were way way better than I imagined.
Siren: I really don't want to know what you were imagining.
Siren: (But to be honest, it feels nice when someone says you're doing good work.)

Siren: Our cafe was really popular, and I had a lot of fun!
Siren: Oh no, Harry might be done with his set already. I should run over and check!
*crash*
Siren: Whoa! What was that?

Harry: gently caress! Why does this always happen?
Harry: Pathetic...
Siren: Harry?
Harry: Ren.
Siren: Are you... done?

Harry: Yeah. I've been done for a while. So get outta my face.
Siren: But--
Harry: I said get outta my face!
Siren: I'm sorry I missed your show.

Harry: I think you're better off that way.
Siren: What's that supposed to mean?
Harry: There's no reason for you to look forward to my shows.
Siren: Don't say that!
Harry: That's enough!
Harry: ...Sorry. I'm always like this after a show.
Harry: I just never get any better, do I.
Harry: But talking to you calmed me down a lot.
Harry: I still need to think about this, though, so could you please give me some time?
Harry: And... sorry for yelling at you.
Siren: (Harry...)

A Skinship prompt comes up here, but any action other than canceling it leads to Harry dejectedly asking us to leave him alone.

Next time: I think it's time we blow this scene, get everybody and the stuff together.

Man, the girls' uniform in this one is really awful. I guess it's supposed to look vaguely convent-esque? Although... Haruhi seems to change between school and after-school teatime. Her teatime uniform is much better.

The outfit she wore to tea was the summer uniform, and later in the update she's wearing the winter uniform. Everyone switches to summer in June iirc and then to winter in October.

Do we always need be picking the best response with Teru if we want to win his mermaid makeouts at the end? I feel like our Siren should have licence to insult him or be weird around him at her leisure.

Nope, we don't. I do tend to choose the most amusing one, it just happens to be the right answer a majority of the time. I'm still experimenting with Skinshipping for him, too - there's one where he thinks you're going for his eyes, so he grabs your hand and counterattacks. It's pretty good, but hard to get.

Did we actually vote for Teru? Is doing his stuff just super easy in this playthrough and you're showing him off because of that or is he our replacement for Harry since we don't want to cross Haruhi?

It's to show off a certain game mechanic in the second year of the game.

And I get that, business is business. If their games genuinely didn't make them the cash they want, fine fair enough. Nothing to be done about that.
argh I didn't really wanna effortpost so my post came out a bit differently than I wanted it to.

The reason I dislike Konami for this is because this feels like a self-fulfilling prophecy. This wasn't about them shutting down parts of their company that weren't making money, this was about them preventing those parts from making money and then saying "well they're not making money so we don't have any reason to keep them around". They are essentially blaming their own business practices on their employees and then throwing a shitfit when the project fails, or worse when the project succeeds.
Do you remember Silent Hill: Book of Memories? Of course not, Konami put out zero hype about it. They released it along with the Silent Hill HD Collection (and that's another kettle of fish) as well as one other SH game in the same month as BoM. They do this constantly. They are notoriously bad at advertising despite being a publisher themselves, and they expect their games to sell because of a loyal fanbase and fairy magic.

Their bosses are apparently more concerned with starting witch hunts over petty poo poo than actually being good at business. Kojima claims he was fired because some higher up had a grudge against him. A voice actor for SH claims that Konami is trying to not pay him for his work. Other employees claim that Konami either tried to passive-aggressively shitcan their projects or simply put it out without them knowing. I guess it's childish of me, but I hate that they're staying in business despite being such lovely people, and I hope that the actual employees can find a good replacement for their job. Anyway, doesn't matter. Sorry I strayed off-topic with this.

You're totally right about the crowdfunding thing though.

Those lovable weirdos at Mikado had another Tokimeki Memorial: The One You Stick Your Finger Into tournament for the franchise's 21st anniversary... well, the 20+364 days anniversary, at least.

In order to ensure character variety, and especially to avoid players using the same character the entire way through the tournament, they use a 12-sided die to assign people to a character.

New post coming soon, I swear!

Tokimemo Girl's Side, Chapter 8: Tell me the last time that love bought you clothes

11/14: Must... restrain...

Harry: Ren?
Siren: Harry! Welcome to our shop!
Harry: Oh, so you work here.
Siren: Yeah. You looking for something?

Harry: Haha, as if I would buy a flower! I get them a lot, though.
Harry: Seeya!

11/18: Fist of death...

Siren: The student council election takes place today.
Siren: The campaign speeches are about to start in the auditorium...

Moderator: Quiet, please! The next candidate is first-year student Hikami Itaru.
Moderator: Go ahead.
Siren: (Oh, Hikami-kun's up there.)
Itaru: Stop your whispering!
Itaru: Don't any of you know your responsibilities as high school students?!

Itaru: It's time to choose the new executive council, and this will have a large impact on your high school lives.
Itaru: Many of you probably don't understand that, and just think that it's okay for me to do all the talking.
Itaru: And that attitude isn't limited to occasions like today!

Itaru: In other words, there are many students here at Hanegasaki Academy who can't properly follow the rules as they were laid down!
Itaru: So this is what I propose to you: I will make sure everyone is aware of the rules that form the foundation of our school!
Siren: (Oh boy, he just made everyone mad...)

Moderator: And with all the votes tallied, it's official - Sato Ichiro is the next student body president.

Siren: Hikami-kun!
Itaru: ......
Siren: Too bad.
Itaru: Yeah. It really was too bad.
Itaru: Even when I speak nothing but truth, they don't understand me.
Itaru: I guess I'm used to it now. Am I doing something wrong?
Siren: Hikami-kun...

Itaru: I bet they think I'm a real jerk, don't they.
Itaru: But I truly believe in everything I said.
Itaru: I just have to accept the results as they stand.
Itaru: I'm sorry. I'd like some time to think about this. Excuse me.
Siren: (I hope he recovers from this soon.)

11/23: Tunes with Teru

Siren: (Hey, Teru-kun's waiting here!)
Siren: I'm sorry! Did I keep you waiting?
Teru: Yes. You did.
Siren: O-oh, I'm sorry.

We've managed to get to a point where Teru actually arrives early for dates. His tone hasn't changed, though.

Teru: It'll be really crowded in there, won't it?

Teru: Ugh, I knew it.
Teru: Well, I guess that's the appeal of a live show in the first place. Might as well try to enjoy it.

Siren: This show was kinda disappointing, wasn't it.
Teru: I dunno about disappointing, but it sure was loud. I'm beat.
Siren: (Things are going pretty well!)

Teru: Ha!
Teru: No way that'll work!

Teru appears to see this Skinship motion as threatening, so he dodges Siren's hand and gives her a light chop of his own. And, for all that, he seems to like it. Take that as you will.

11/26: The second double date

This double date is pretty much the same as the summer version, with two major variations: everyone's wearing winter clothes, and the go-cart attraction is open! Let's skip straight to the new dialogue.

Siren: I'll ride with Saeki-kun.
Haruhi: Then I get ta ride with Harry!
Haruhi: Uh, he might run wild out there, so I gotta keep him honest!

Teru: This looks awesome!
Teru: I feel the need... the need for speed!
Siren: Everyone's watching, you know.
Teru: Ahem. Remember to buckle your seat belt. Let's drive safe out there.

For reference, here are the animations for the other two:

Haruhi: This is gonna be tough on so many levels...

Harry: My hands are sweating. I can't wait to get out there!

For Reasons, the day ends with the Harry-Haruhi and Teru-Siren pairings for all 3 rides, which leaves Haruhi absolutely elated... and leads to a new e-mail in Siren's inbox.

11/28: Another side of Itaru

Siren: (I should return this book to the library today.)
Siren: (Hmm? What's going on by the window?)

Siren: (Oh, it's Hikami-kun.)
Boy A: Hey Hikami, how do you work your way to this probability here?
Itaru: Find all of the impossible cases, subtract them, and you'll have the answer.
Boy B: Hikami, what was the February Revolution?
Itaru: An armed uprising in Paris that started in February of 1848.
Boy C: Can you help me out here, Hikami?
Itaru: Those lines are from a lady of the court addressing the Emperor.
Itaru: Next?

Itaru: What is it, English? Physics?
Siren: What's going on, Hikami-kun? You're pretty fired up.
Itaru: Hmm? Oh, it's you.
Itaru: As you know, midterms are coming next week.
Itaru: We're helping each other study. Care to join us?
Siren: I think I'm good--
Boy D: Hikami, do you know this one?
Itaru: Oh, sorry to make you wait. This isn't a mitochondria, it's a chloroplast.
Boy E: Hikami, you think I should study this section here?
Itaru: No, this isn't where you should focus at all!
Siren: (I've never seen him so active.)

12/1: Another side of Harry

Siren: (I ended up staying at school pretty late. I should hurry home. Wait, is that--)
Siren: Harry!
Harry: Ren.
Siren: You still staying out after this?
Harry: Yeah. I'm gonna go pick out my next stage outfit.
Siren: Oh, I see. What kind of clothes are you getting?
Harry: I dunno yet. You wanna come with?
Siren: Are you okay with that?
Harry: As long as you don't hold me up. Now let's go!
Siren: Hey, wait for me!

Harry: Alright, I'm off.
Siren: What?
Harry: Once I start picking out clothes, I shut out all other sounds.
Harry: So there's no point in sticking with me.
Siren: (He really just ran off. I guess I'll do my own thing.)

Siren: (He should be done by now--hey, wait, who're those guys?)
Siren: (That's definitely Harry, but who're the others?)
Siren: (They're waving now, so I guess they're done with whatever they were doing.)

Siren: You find anything you liked, Harry?
Harry: Yeah, I found something perfect.
Siren: Oh, so did those guys help you pick it out for you?
Harry: Yeah, we--

Harry: Wait, were you watching us?
Siren: I saw you for a second while I was waiting. Are they your friends?
Harry: Stop snooping!

Harry: ...That's the rest of the band.
Harry: And I've known one of them since we were in elementary school.
Siren: Ah-ha! So, that's why you were having so much fun.
Harry: What's that supposed to mean?
Siren: How do I put it--it's like you weren't trying so hard for once.

Harry: Like I what?! Are you kidding me?
Harry: B, but, we're all working together for the same goal, and I can't deny it's not bad...
Harry: But it's just--
Harry: It's just that they're different from the guys at school, and I can relax a little while talking to them, okay?
Siren: (It feels like he just repeated what I said in the first place.)

Harry: Anyway! Don't you wanna see what I ended up picking out?
Harry: We should head somewhere I can show you. We'll need to head somewhere with a lot of open space!
Harry: Let's get outta here!
Siren: (Is he just trying to hide his embarrassment now?)

12/4-12/8: Midterms

1st: Hikami Itaru
14th: Saeki Teru
33rd: Fudou Siren
230th: Nishimoto Haruhi
273rd: Hariya Kounoshin

Siren: Nice! The studying paid off.
Siren: Oh, hey Harry.
Harry: Hey, you're pretty smart. Not bad!
Siren: (Maybe it's just all the little things adding up in the end.)

12/10: A quick status update

Things are progressing nicely. Haruhi is our BFF, which isn't at all surprising. Teru and Harry need to have roughly equal affection levels for Reasons, and that's working out as well.

Here's the big problem: if we're going to buy a furisode for New Year's Day in year 1, we're going to need a whole lot more money. There's a 35% sale on Christmas Eve, but that just brings the price from 300 to 195. We're going to need to take drastic measures if we want to afford both the new outfit and a Christmas present. It'll require a few trips to the mall in order to build up to a 50% discount on the point card, though.

12/12: Walking with Wakaoji

Siren: Wakaoji-sensei, you don't believe in things like the legend of Hanegasaki, do you?
Wakaoji: What makes you think that? I do believe.
Siren: Really? I thought you wouldn't because you're a science teacher.
Wakaoji: A legend is a metaphor. It may not be factual, but you can still call it true.
Wakaoji: No matter how far science advances,
Wakaoji: We'll never be able to be able to eradicate humanity's inherent urge to create its own myths.

Siren: So... that means--
Wakaoji: In other words, whatever you believe in your heart is true to you.
Siren: True to me? So what do you believe in, Wakaoji-sensei?
Wakaoji: I believe that aliens live on the ocean floor.
Wakaoji: Those aliens sure are fishy.

Translator's note: This pun is not in the original Japanese, but it fits Wakaoji like a glove. Sue me.

12/21: Harry's birthday

Option 1: DVD of a legendary rock concert
Option 2: Guitar-cleaning cloth
Option 3: Singing for dummies

The good-okay-bad options are pretty clear again, so we'll just get him that concert DVD.

Siren: Harry!
Harry: Huh? What do you want?
Siren: Happy birthday! I got you a present.
Harry: Hey, I was looking for this... You're amazing!
Harry: This was really nice of you. Thanks!
Siren: (Oh good, he really liked it.)

12/23: The great purge

It's time to buy Siren a furisode. The way the math works out on a big-ticket item, it's slightly cheaper to buy a bunch of small items to build up the point card to a 50% discount, then blow it all on the sale. Along with the 35% Christmas Eve sale, this brings the price down to 97 Rich. The Christmas party is coming up as well, so we'll want an extra buffer on top of that 97.

So how do we get to that 97 Rich when we only have 10 Rich in Siren's piggy bank? By selling everything.

Well, almost everything. The items that escape the purge are a party dress, a sleeveless one-piece dress, and a pair of earrings.

Perfect. And on the way back, we bump into Harry and Wakaoji-sensei as a bonus.

Siren: (Whoa, what are Harry and Wakaoji-sensei doing over there?)
Harry: I hope we get same-day tickets.
Wakaoji: That would be nice.
Siren: Harry! Wakaoji-sensei!
Harry: Sup, Ren?
Siren: Sup?
Wakaoji: Hi, Fudou-san.
Wakaoji: Say, Hariya-kun, why don't we ask her to join us?
Siren: Are you two going somewhere?

Wakaoji: Bingo. Apaprently, one of Hariya-kun's favorite bands has a concert today.
Harry: I'm telling you, these guys are awesome! You won't regret going to this show!
Siren: So you guys have been planning to go together for a while?

Harry: Huh? Nope.
Wakaoji: Oh, not at all.
Siren: Wha?
Harry: We bumped into each other today, and he gave me an earful.
Wakaoji: Indeed.

Wakaoji: "Hey, Hariya-kun! Music is nice and all, but you should concentrate on your studies!" or something like that.
Siren: And why's that?
Harry: Beats me.
Wakaoji: Me too.
Siren: ...
Harry: Aw, who cares!
Wakaoji: Indeed! Want to join us?
Siren: Uh, sure...
Harry: Awesome! C'mon, hurry!
Wakaoji: Yay!
Siren: (Are you sure we won't get in trouble? Oh, who cares, this looks like fun!)

12/24: The Christmas party

Siren: The school is holding a Christmas party today!
Siren: Oh yeah, there's going to be a gift exchange at the party.
Siren: I should pick up a gift before it's too late!
Siren: So, what should I buy?
1 Rich presents:
Option 1: Woodcraft dinosaur
Option 2: Accessory case
Option 3: Glass angel
Option 4: Miniature kaleidoscope
Option 5: Flavored tea
Option 6: Tin-plated toy car

10 Rich presents:
Option 1: A light-up globe
Option 2: Top-shelf candy set
Option 3: Glass clock
Option 4: Porcelain tea censer
Option 5: Silver pins
Option 6: Room Stepper treadmill

Teru's favorite is thankfully cheap, so we go with the Woodcraft dinosaur. For reference, Itaru prefers the globe, Harry's all for the silver pins, and Wakaoji loves the angel made of glass.

This is why we kept one dress around. I'm rather fond of this dress, and would hate to see it go.

Siren: Alright, I'm ready to go! Time to party!

Vice principal: Christmas has come again. This party only happens once a year, so please enjoy yourselves.
Vice principal: But within reasonable limits! I expect all of you to behave properly.
Vice principal: Got it? Cheers! Merry Christmas, and let the party begin!

Haruhi: REN~! Merry Christmas!
Siren: Merry Christmas, Haruhi-chan.

Haruhi: Wowwww, you're lookin' so cute today! That dress is amazin'!
Siren: You think so?
Haruhi: Soooo, why you lookin' all sexy and dolled up, huh? You minx you!
Haruhi: But to be honest with ya, I'm super jealous right now. I want a dress like that too.
Haruhi: Lemme know where ya bought it, okay?
Haruhi: Uh oh, I gotta go say hi before it's too late. Seeya!
Siren: (It feels like a storm just passed through every time I talk to her.)
Siren: (But I'm really happy she complimented my dress!)

Siren: It's almost time for the gift exchange.
Siren: I wonder whose present I'll pick up? I hope it's...
Siren: Teru's.
Santa: Ho ho ho! Here's your present. Merry Christmas!
Siren: (I wonder what I got?)
Siren: (It's a Mr. Dolphin backscratcher.)
Siren: (Whoever threw this in the pool must not care very much...)

Teru: Ren.
Siren: Hi, Saeki-kun.
Teru: Oh hey, that's my present.
Siren: Really? Hey, you're holding mine, too...
Teru: Yeah? This is pretty nice. I made out like a bandit.
Siren: (Yay! He really liked the present! ...I think. I guess?)

Next time: the cutest of New Year's cards
