I have 1100 sq. ft. on the border of Montrose/Midtown in Houston for $900. Apartments across the street of a similar size are literally twice the price.

There's always cheap spots in cities. You just have to know where to look and check craigslist frequently and have some common sense with screening ads. And no I don't mean in a shanty town, poo poo location, and all that. Well they exist but yeah

Those cheap spots are also far away from where my friends live, away from my school, and a helluva commute to work. This is why people pay more: convenience and proximity.

I pay $1060 a month for my mortgage for a 1400 sq. ft condo with 3 bedrooms, and like $200 a month for condo fees. (Trash collection, water, lawn care/snow plow, etc). This is extremely cheap for the town I live in, where a 2 bedroom ranch with a postage stamp sized yard will go for $250,000. School system here is one of the best though, and I am close to everything.

I'm pretty centrally located close to everything I mean Walmart is only 30 minutes away and a taxi from the bar only runs me $25

holocaust bloopers posted:Moral of the story: living in a city is expensive This is only true if you want to live in a couple of big cities, I mean if I wanted my same apartment in downtown San Francisco I would have to pay like 3, 4 or even 5 times my rent now. Average rent for a studio is like 3000/month, you can probably find really cheap places but they are going to essentialy be small rear end boxes with rats as roomates/pets. Edit: The housing market in SF will eventually fall to ruins anyways.
