Top and bottom were with my lumia 920, which stopped working 6 months after i dropped it in a river. The middle is my loaner iphone 4.

Does anyone here know of there's a way to 'focus and recompose' with the camera on the Lumia 1020? I want to zoom in to make sure something is in focus but for the picture to be a full image. Then I can just crop it however I want.

Regarding iPhone photography, what's the dorkroom think about VSCOCAM filters? Are they nostalgic and tasteful tools that complements the already good color balance of the iPhone, or are they the new HDR?

They tend to be a little overdone right off the bat but you can turn them down. Like the actual VSCO presets you should tweak them to suit your own taste, there's a few goons who hates the split-tone, crushed-blacks aesthetic and some that don't.

Some VSCO Cam filters can be pretty heavy on the fading and color shifts, but a good number of them are more subtle, mostly giving an S-curve to the tones and slight hue changes. I dunno if it'll fool anybody into thinking it's an actual film picture, even if you import something shot on a DSLR, but they can look decent.
