Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

It's officially Summer or something, so everyone is in their lighter clothes. This includes classmate quests so it's going to be quite awkward that, visually, months literally passed to fix some people's problems!

Yo, Cosette! That book you borrowed from the library? You left it there. *Knocks door*
Is that you, Avon? C'mon in, it's unlocked!

Ngah?! P-Purple, red and teal?! Your room is blinding...
Really? Hmm, I thought I did a decent job of decorating.
Anyway, here's that book on medicine you checked out. You left it there.
Oh, thanks! I was just wondering where I'd put it.
You know, I've got to say I'm impressed. I couldn't understand a word of it.
Your dad was a doctor, right? Did he teach you that stuff?
A little bit. He ran a private practice in Yuell. He was amazing! And the whole city loved him. He could never sit by when he knew people needed help. He'd always be heading off to little villages in the mountains or poorer towns.

Heh heh. Yeah, that's why I want to be like him.
I'm sure you will be. Especially if you stop leaving your books at--

*Door knocked*

What's wrong, Coleen?
I just overhead some professors talking...The rebels have entered central Gallia!

Aren't they already in Central Gallia...?

There's a big battle going on in Yuell, and the Army is having a rough time.
Wait, in Yuell?
Isn't that where you're--
But Yuell's not... Why? The city will be ruined again! Everyone'll be...

Welp, poo poo. Game moodswings hard again.

Dad....Mom....

We...we can?
Sure! Who better to do it than us if the Army's in a tight spot? I'm sure Brixham will let us go if we explain the situation to him. C'mon!

Okay!

Kind of weird Avan has to remind people what the Academy is there for. Because the game sure doesn't at times.

This can't be right, you look like an actual soldier.

I'll, you know, do what I can to help.

Nope, never mind. You're perfect for Class G. Jamill is an Armor Tech, which clearly the class needs instead of a Shocktrooper or Lancer....

Alright, the desert maps are the biggest curveballs yet. Character units effectively have less AP because they're too hot under the sun, so Fencers go from kinda moving to basically stationary. The APC becomes more important than ever because they're not affected by the weather.

However, be aware of some spots on the map that will lower the AP of your vehicle. That's why the Off-Road stat exists, to get across these holes without losing AP.

A new month means a new tier of weaponry. Well, for most stuff anyway. Lances are still stuck on tier 5 for some reason.

But Engineers get to skip from tier 3 all the way to tier 6! (it was a 1 damage increase)

Upgrading musical instruments even though I have only one and in general literally never used one so far. Ironically I will eventually use a lot when I'm whittled down to 1-2 useful units, so the buffs will actually matter.

Lore time

Rebels Attack Central Gallia!-Newspaper

The rebels have begun an advance into central Gallia. General Baldren Gassenarl is marching on Mellvere, and General Audrey Gassenarl on Yuell. If these towns fall, Randgriz will face attacks from the south and east, making defense very difficult.

The army is expected to divide its forces in two to defend both cities. Audrey Gassenarl has her formidable armored corps with her, and the General herself has been known to fight on the front lines in her tank. Yuell will be a hard-fought defense.

Guess we're going to fight the daughter now since we already fought the two sons.

Classes A and G to the Finals!-Lotte Insider

Laevatein Cup semifinals were held on May 25th, with Class A and Class G proceeding to the finals. I took a survey of opinions on who will win. "Class A, of course." (Professor A) ''I hope Class G does well." (Student F in Class B)

"There no way Juliana's Class A can lose! And what's this I hear about Juliana getting friendly with Class G?" (Student R in Class D) The finals are on the 19th next month. Who will be victorious? PS. I wonder how Remi's quest for love is going?

Universal Conscription-Encyclopedia

Enacted to enforce the armed neutrality adopted after Gallia won its independence, the law prescribes a three-stage draft according to need, applying to men and women over 15. The third and final stage was initiated in 1935 when the Empire attacked Randgriz.

Schools of each level offer mandatory military education, and all citizens are required to graduate from middle school, meaning that all Gallians have basic training in combat skills.

So basically Switzerland when everyone is a trained killer at any time.

The Gallian War-Encyclopedia

A war between Gallia and the Empire. In March of 1935, imperial troops under prince Maximilian invaded Gallia and nearly took Randgriz, but they were driven back after a Gallian victory at the Great Vasel Bridge turned the tides of war.

Fouzen was recaptured by the militia, and Gallia subsequently took the upper hand, winning the battle of Naggiar. Maximilian launched a final assault on Randgriz, but died when the militia destroyed the Dreadnought Marmota. Peace followed soon after.

It's amusing how history wrote that Squad 7 basically beat the Empire, but never questioned how the hell did they destroy a super hover battleship.

The Capital City Randgriz-Encyclopedia

The capital of Gallia. Randgriz takes its name from the ancient war hero who built his castle there. Encircled by castle walls stretching 1 km in diameter, the city is a citadel that contains the seat of Gallia's Politics, economy and culture.

A magnificent tower often likened to a unicorn's horn once stood atop Castle Randgriz, but was destroyed in the Gallian War. A monument now stands in its place, engraved with messages of peace and the names of the soldiers who died in the war.

Let's see what dice-man is doing.

Yeah, I'm Jamill Caines. I'm your armored tech.
Right, I remember. So, what brings you back here?
That building looks like it's been around a while.
Yeah, it's like a castle. It's supposed to be super old. It definitely has, uh... presence, I guess.
Heh. Presence, huh? Seeing presence or authority in age is the mark of the young, boy.
There's no meaning in something being old. In buildings, or people. It just means they missed their cue to die, and now they're hanging on.
What?
Well, the dice tell me it's time to move on. I'll see you around, boy.
What's that guy's deal?

A hippie???

There's no need to be in such a hurry, Holmes.
But there is! If people knew you were out in the city, Your Highness...I fear to think of the scene it might cause!
Witnessing the daily works of her people is critical for any informed ruler. I remain blind to much of what goes on if I stay cloistered in a castle.
But, Your Highness must consider the risks! For your safety, I insist--
Ooh. that smell...That's cinnamon! I wonder if someone is selling cinnamon rolls! Let's go take a look.
C-Cinnamon rolls?
Yes, they're one of my absolute favorites. If I brought some back as a souvenir, I'm sure Elysse would enjoy one.
Your Highness! The Royal Guard does not require souvenirs! Now, please!
Oh, all right.

Welkin made Cordelia a sugar bread junkie, apparently. Oh, and Elysse was a former Lancer of Squad 7.

Rene Quest 2

You're no slouch, either. It's been forever since I had that close a match.

*A student walks up to them*

Hey, Rene! Did, uh... Did you pass along word to Magari for me?
Oh, right. Yeah. I told her, but she said she doesn't want to meet up.
Aw, even calling in a favor from her best friend doesn't work?
Sorry, but she said no. You can't force her to like you, man.

Tch... Just because she's cute, she thinks she can snub all of us guys? We'd be doing her a favor, dating a stinking Darcsen.

This is like the 3rd "You don't want to date me? Well gently caress YOU, Darcen" about Magari now.

Who cares if she's a Darcsen? She's still the same Magari!
Oh, spare me the lecture. You're just her friend so you can feel superior. Or maybe you just want to look better, so you stand next to a dark-hair?

You have dark hair, you moron. Literally darker hair than Magari.

Ugh, you're really scum, you know that?
What, so you're gonna resort to violence?! You muscle-bound cavewoman!
Don't, Rene! This guy's not even worth hitting.
Yeah, but....
Heh. I should've listened to the rumors about you, man-girl!
Man...girl?!
You know what people call the two of you when they see you walking together?

I'd say it fits pretty drat well, you brutish, bloodthirsty b--

Eaagh! *runs away*

I guess I can understand. Even I can see how nice a package she is. She's pretty, and girly in a way that makes you want to protect her.

This is a really weird quest.

Yeah? I don't really get a lot of stuff like that. But okay.
Compared to her, I'm nowhere near as cute, and totally lacking appeal. There are days I feel a little pathetic compared to her.
Rene, you're not...
Heh, would you listen to me? Ah ha ha ha! Sorry to be such a huge downer.
Let's finish our match another day, okay? I'm gonna head back in. *leaves*
What a bummer....

Yeah, though those only work in the zone that the vehicle is deployed in and only as long as it stays out. They're useful (especially the lamp because gently caress hunting down every rear end in a top hat in the dark) but they don't completely invalidate the hazards.

Yeah, that's going to happen because the font in this game messes up my texture capture. G=S is the most common, followed by not recognizing a small "j," the letter I into a bunch of 1's (Gal1ia), etc. Small price to pay because holy poo poo am I not going to type everything out like I did with Awakening again.

The problem is that a sprinkler/lamp/heater, etc. cost Weight and some missions require me to have a vehicle that can't fit all that. I can't fit a flamethrower AND a Constructor AND a weather attachment on a Light APC/B tank.

It's time to knock out some of those paid missions I bought from the store to 1) get some enemy ace plans 2)rotate out these Engineers so I can get actual units on my team.

Killing all enemies in a night mission is the worst combination, probably. Well, a little above APC escort missions at least.

At least it's an early-level mission, so I'm a point where my Scouts can solo Shocktroopers.

Bwuahahaha! This ridiculous giant cannon currently does over double of what our Lancers can do (400~). Unfortunately it's way too big for anything but a medium tank, and flamethrowers are still better for more situations.

But that damage....

Girls in short sleeves. Girls in short skirts. ...Bathing suits!
Heh. You're a real dog, you know that? Nothing like my bro, Avan.
Aw, you're still just a kid, Pete.
What?! I dare you to say that again!

Gnaaaargh! You kicked my FACE!
Tch. My prey got away.
Well? Are you happy, Joachim? You know, Vicky's not wearing much.

That is a terrible joke, Pete. Ew.

She's dressed like that all year, in fact. She's even barefoot!

Sounds like Joachim's kind of place. Why not pay them a visit, man?
Maybe I will!

I mean, Joh is usually a creep but Pete was somehow creepier. Also, this is why I've been skipping most skits.

I literally have a 1 CP order that heals. You want me to spend TWO???

Avan goes to Tech Veteran because two is overkill honestly, and this lets Avan pick up another Potential. Tech Vets are interesting because they have 3 sub-weapons in grenades, mines, and ragnaid. Yes, they can even heal like Engineers.

Another kill-em-all mission at night.

Not so great this time.

Marion Quset 2

Ugh, I just want to get done with this and-- Huh? That looks like...
Hmm...
Marion? Huh, I don't see her in the R&D building very often.

*Marion walks around*

I wonder what brings her here. Well, I might as well go say hi.

*Further into the armory*

....
*Thinking* Wow, what's got her way back in the arsenal?
Tee hee!

Mm, just lovely. With this, I could...

*Avan knocks over something*

Sorry, it's me. I didn't mean to startle you.

No, I was just... Er, Ms. Lane asked me to come and, um...
She got to you too, huh? Man, she can be a real tyrant!
Oh, I don't think... I'm afraid I really must be going now. Good day! *leaves*
It wouldn't kill Lavinia to do SOME of the work around here herself...

Guh, Lavinia?! Ow-OWW! Let go of my ear!
I was just saying you work folks like me and Marion a little hard is all!
Marion? Who said I asked her to do anything?
What? But Marion said--
Then she played you. Not that I'm surprised to hear you fell for it.
Played me? But why would she lie about something like that?
Search me. Maybe she was covering something up. Come to think of it, I see her here every once in a while. She doesn't seem to come on any specific errand, though. It's kinda weird.
Huh. I wonder what she could be hiding.

Well, we already have one rich-girl-joined-military-willingly in Noel (why do we have two...), so Marion is obviously taking a different path, though "what" is the question.

I'm flattered and all, but I can't go out with you. I'm sorry.
N-No, it's all right. I understand. That's too bad, though.

Okay, that is THREE goddamn quests that involves with a Class G girl being asked out in somehow. Is every other girl in the academy already with someone else or something?

*meanwhile, in the nearby bushes*

Hmm...
Mmm...

*Back to the garden*

I knew it was a long shot asking someone as pretty as you are. I'm no match.
It's not like that.

*back to bushes*

...Psst. Cosette. Isn't it, like, really bad for us to be here right now?
Shh, shut up! If we get up and walk out now, we'll make a scene!

Also this is like the 6th time Avan is involved hiding during a classmate quest.

*back to garden*

I feel better that I told you how I feel though. Thanks for listening. *leaves*

*back to bushes*

Phew, they're finally done!
Ack! Will you keep your voice down?!

!

*the two rise from the bushes*

Sorry, Coleen. I swear we weren't trying to eavesdrop!
No, it's fine. It's my own fault for not realizing we weren't alone.
I'm pretty impressed, though. Isn't this your second in as many days?
Second what?
Boy asking her out, dummy! Gosh, you sure are slow sometimes.
I wonder why they always feel the need to do this.
What? Isn't it because they want you to know how they feel about you?
Is that how it works when you like someone? I wish I knew. I'm no good at this stuff.

Are we seriously doing a third "What is love?" thing. Am I being delirious?

Oh yeah? So there's nobody you're sweet on?
Not really, no. So when these boys ask me out, I don't know how to respond.
I guess that makes sense. It'd be silly to force something you don't feel.
That's what I think. Anyway, I should get going. Bye, you guys. *leaves*

I'm right there with her. I don't get it at all.
Yes, but that's not surprising at all, so it's fine.
...Why do I feel like I just got insulted?

Hey, remember Reiner? Or Helmut? What happened to those types of classmate quests? Bah.

Magari Quest 2

I guess it was a bad move copying it straight from the textbook. Hmm?

*walks over to Magari*

I feel certain I get sufficient exercise in our daily drills.
You know, reading books all the time is gonna rot your brain. You should--
Please leave me to read. And for the record, I am far smarter than you are.

drat, even Magari ain't taking his nonsense.

Oh yeah? Well how about I give you a little test? If you don't get it right, you have to come outside. Sound fair? *flips pages on a book furiously*
Er...Avan?
Okay! I bet this'Il stump you. What are the traits of the cerulean scarab?
The cerulean scarab is a hard-shelled beetle of a pale, sky blue color. They live exclusively in Imperial territory, and move seasonally in packs.
Gah! How have you read about all this stuff?!
That should be the correct response. Now please leave me to my books.

What?
Who...?
Hey, Welkin.
What about my answer was unsatisfactory?
Don't get me wrong, you were close. I'd give you full credit on a test.
But one or two of those facts are just a little bit off.
Seriously? This book says what she said, almost word for word!
...I can't accept this. It was written in a textbook. It must be right.

Magari, the entire reason why you're fighting in a civil war is because the textbooks about Darcens were wrong :psyduck: Who is writing these quests?

Hmmm, this should be just about the right time of year... If you don't want to take my word for it, why not so see for yourself, Magari?
What? How? Gallia is outside the cerulean scarab's territory.
Hey. Avon. let me know the next time you deploy to Leanbluff. would you?

And make sure Magari here goes with you. Got it? That's your homework. All right, kids. I'll see you two later! *leaves*

Oh my god, this is the lamest excuse to have a classmate mission. To find bugs.

*thinks back*

Wait no, beating up students to find a wallet in a locker is dumber.

Or that time we beat up actual praticing soldiers to make a lie real about being an idol.

...Ugh...

Um...

This has been a very dumb update.

Meet Class G: Coleen Celsius

Personal Potentials:
Mooch - When their stock of ammo runs out, they somehow manage to scrounge up some more.
Chatterbox - Tends to get caught up in conversation, lowering firing accuracy.
Feeble Attack - Unable to fully commit, they end up losing the chance to take further action.

Coleen would be pretty decent in VC1 when having a Lancer out for long stretches is important, thanks to Mooch. Unfortunately with how VC2 encourages rotating multiple people in a class per mission, Lancers never have an issue with running out of ammo.

Plus, not exactly great to start off a mission considering she can lose a turn for no reason. Also lowered accuracy. Basically no positive Potential.

Mooch can still be handy just because VC2 still has Lancers only able to carry three shots. VC3, in keeping with the trend, increases that to a far more manageable six (though Snipers still get stuck with three? :iiam:)

Mostly when you start getting to Heavy Tanks that take multiple shots to the radiator to go down, or bosses. (It's also helped by the fact that certain units get certain potentials that make them way better to use than others, so I tend to just stick with them.)

Magari and Coleen's first quests are almost interchangable aside from one being "Well, gently caress YOU Darcsen!" when they get rejected.

To be fair, her matchmaking personality (Which is a thing, apparently whenever she's not being traumatized, being mad at Juliana, or being a Klutz) is only a thing during classmate missions which are in their own time bubble.

What isn't tonally consistent is fitting a Tournament Cup round in between "Holy poo poo, these mountain Darcens are 99% dead" and "Holy poo poo, a city is going to get razed to the ground again, also the Rebels are making a power play move they concocted TWO MONTHS AGO"

I'm really hard on this game, but the premise isn't entirely awful. It's just really badly shuffled. Keep Gallia at peace at the start of the game, or at least have the civil war in it's very early days ("over by the end of the month :wotwot:", that kind of thing). That gives you a few months of High School happiness and sunshine, along with a few occasional reports of the war getting worse in the background. Maybe make the first real mission a training trip gone wrong and running into a rebel patrol. After that have it all go downhill fast with the nasty stuff we've already seen now that they're on the Academy's doorstep and they're getting pulled to active duty .

Nope, only the token Valkyrian has any actual super powers.

Unrelated and totally not talking about my next update, why the gently caress are escort APCs 2 CP? Who the gently caress designed that and no one questioned it?

Because they're bigger than people :pseudo:.

Could at least flip one or two, maybe.

Honestly, I kinda feel like the game does do this, just with additional gameplay to keep things interesting and not just the same two maps.

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

Time to finish the last available paid mission which is...:sigh: an APC Escort mission.

The game gets sadistic with these mission types, putting Lancers and AT Bunkers everywhere. It doesn't help that it takes at least two turns from my Lancers to take one of these out. I miss flamethrowers on my Shocktroopers.

Putting large mines in front of a seemingly harmless AT Bunker. Evil.

No seriously, why the hell is the APC 2 CP to move?

Pete Quest 2

If you appreciate academic success, why not work for some of your own?

Waugh?! What's up. Pete?
Always hanging around my bro, picking on him for some stupid thing...Where's a Darcsen get off talking to him like an equal in the first place?!
Whoa, Pete! That's no way to talk to--
Don't interrupt me, bro! I think we need to settle this. We'll fight to see who gets to be Avan's boy!

:stare: Calm down, Pete. Also, what?

No. I see no reason at all to indulge you.
What?! You coward!
Call me what you like. Acting irrationally goes against my personal creed.
drat it, don't think you've heard the last of Pete Stang on this!

*later during class*

So, does anyone have an answer?
Me!
My, this is a surprise. Go ahead, Pete.

That was an even poorer response than I'd braced myself for, Pete. Zeri?
They employed a diagonal line formation in that campaign.
That is correct.
Rrgh!

*later at the drilling grounds*

*Pete shoots his rifle*

All right! Eight for ten, that's a personal record! Heh. I'll bet stupid Zeri can't top tha--

*Zeri shoots his rifle*

Hmm, I missed once. I'll have to make some more corrections.
Nine for ten’?! That's not...RrrrRRRGH! drat it! I won't lose! Not to him, of all people!

I think Pete needs to calm down about Avan, especially when his goal is being his...boy? I don't want to think about it.

Alright, we're finally going to get to a June key mis-oh goddamnit.

So this is a hot mess. Bunkers all over and me without access to a flamethrower. Lancers have to work triple time as they travel through the desert and survive a billion interception fire.

The first half of this turn is spent on clearing out the enemy and capturing this base.

This opens up the final map already, but it's protected by two Gatling Bunkers. Now thankfully, they don't scratch even an Escort APC but getting to this final map is the next problem to solve.

Zeri here is going to spend like 4 turns reaching this base. Thanks, Desert fatigue.

Capturing that base allows Rene to wreck the enemy from behind, allowing the APC to start moving.

And now the APC has to travel all the way from the left to the right. Ugh.

A few turns later, the APC runs up to the Gatling Turret and provides cover for Lancers to safely get behind it.

Although still dangerous.

And the APC safely ignores the other Gatling Turret as it races to the finish line.

That's a really generous A rank requirement.

And you're obstinate! I've told you before...

*at a distance*

*Avan runs to the two*

How can you justify NOT subsidizing the northern Gallian dairy industry?!
Without full transparency, subsidy will only foster corruption! You can't--
Uhh....
What? Something to add to the discussion, Hardins?
N-No, ma'am! Not me! Don't let me stop you!

So...Zeri and Juli are putting off their race schism a bit, I guess for...dairy unionisation or something.

They are talking about economics, rebuilding after the war is a dicey issue. On one hand, subsidizing the agricultural sector means North Gallia could produce more food for the army and civilians which will keep the other villages from volunteering to join the GRA for food. Of course Zeri realize this is bull since the nobility will simply skim from the coffers and the people would still starve.

If only they focused on the political aspect also like Dog Life and Dog Style, it shows just how hosed up civilian life out of the warzone is like.

gyrobot, I have to say I'm starting to love your anti-humor even though I haven't figured out if it's intentional or not

Tae makes it look like he is getting his teeth pulled by high school antics. So I try to make more bearable for him even though I would just remind myself this is just a loving game and turn my mind off.

FULL COMMUNISM NOW
I think that scene is supposed to show that their constant confrontations has lead to them talking about lots of other things, even if it is in the context of the argument.

Need a new page for this update, so here's a question for format: Do you care about skits? Most skits outside of a few are very short and just a repeat of a character's quirk at times. Do they somehow make you remember characters's names better?
