I really don't understand Adult Swim's Standards and Practices. Mainly how in this season of China, IL they seem to randomly bleep the same word used in the same context. Like last night's episode had a character listed in the yearbook as "Most Likely not to give a poo poo" and sometimes when someone said it poo poo would be bleeped and sometimes it wouldn't be. Its just especially annoying on China, IL because the characters swear a lot.

IIRC the explanation for the difference is that when it gets said literally (as in poo) they have to bleep it and when said figuratively (as in not caring) they don't.

It doesn't get enough credit. The writing, at times, is some of the best comedy writing ever. It may not know what to do with any of the female characters under thirty, but goddamn if Denny, Alan, and Shirley aren't three of my favorite TV characters of all time.

The cases are almost always interesting, and the politics are somehow as relevant--if not more so--ten years later, when it seems like all of the Republicans have mad cow disease and all the liberals are smug, elitist assholes.

Just a friendly piece of constructive criticism: you might want to mention that Boston Legal has William Shatner and James Spader acting against one another, which is a better hook than whatever point you were trying to make about politics.

Except they're saying it exactly the same way. Maybe it has something to do with the rating as it is TV14 instead of MA.

Anyway, it looks like BBC's Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell miniseries is finally airing next month. It'll be interesting to see how they deal with all of the supplemental stuff from the book.

Yeah, they have a big computer screen table thing where they look at their case info (or at least used to, I haven't actually watched the show in years) that's really just one big Microsoft advertisement.

Yeah, I remember that one year at E3 they were pimping Surface really hard and had the huge table one front and center.

Then they went and did stupid poo poo like have two versions of it, once of which was ARM and therefore useless as a windows platform. From what I hear 3 generations in Surface is now a pretty decent product, albeit way too expensive.

The best awkward Microsoft product placement was when they spent over a billion dollars getting the NFL to exclusively use Surface tablets during games but the big blue weatherproof cases they use made them unrecognizable and the announcers kept calling them iPads.

I guess that explains why it didn't make the jump to FXX with the rest of the ADHD lineup.

I've never seen anyone mention it on this forum, but Golan originated as a recurring series of articles on the Something Awful front page.

I was wondering why that name was so familiar. Still, that's pretty cool but I think the premise could wear thin after a season or two.

You know how people weren't satisfied with the answers (or lack thereof) provided by Lost? Now imagine a show that doesn't give a gently caress about answers and portrays every character in a deeply flawed -- some would say obnoxious, even hateful -- light. A show full of Skyler Whites, you might say.

I was totally disinterested in what happened to any of the people on it, so I didn't watch it long. Like not even to the level where I can raise a complicated dissection of the narrative or anything else, I just didn't care so I didn't engage and I stopped watching. I didn't hate the show, I nothinged it. Maybe it turned around, but again....so totally unengaged by any of the characters I can't think of a single reason to check in again.

I didn't hate The Leftovers and there were a few good ideas in there, it's just that they weren't really presented in any way that was especially captivating. The whole cult thing could be very interesting, but was largely a bore, and that is representative of the entire show.

Worth watching as background noise while I worked, at least.

No it wasn't. This gets thrown around a lot but it's total poo poo. Leftovers has major issues and it's clear why it wouldn't be to the taste of anyone - for instance my own personal issue is that there's absolutely no levity in any way to contrast against the utter misery and I need my shows to have at least a little humour - yet it's fans just shove their fingers in their ears and go LALALALALA YOU JUST HATED LOST and it's pretty lame and insulting.

The only point at which you are allowed to declare a show "not great" and stop watching it is after you have seen every episode.

It's a core principle of TVIV, just like how you should never watch television unless you are doing at least one other thing at the same time.
