Not that it is really important, but if you right click and press play enough on the choose your conversation panel, it says "PANELS AREN'T POSTED YET" in red. Also, I just realized the colors supported by BBcode color tags on this site match the ones used by the various characters of homestuck. I guess there are only so many easily distinct colors though.

It doesn't feel unwieldy really at all though, it just feels like the characters talking. Dave's development has been pretty plausibly leading up to this - some serious self-examination about who he is and what he wants.

John has those feelings because he's the one describing them, all Dave and Karkat are doing is saying "dude, this thing you're describing is the basis of spades". The only thing that's funny is that John is likely to interpret this as meaning that he has to ask Terezi out, because in a lot of ways he's even more of an old man thank Jake and has a view of relationships that's heavily focused on obligation (remember when he was half jokingly going on about having to marry Rose? and the thing with Davesprite's ghost butt too).
