Someone a few pages back mentioned the collect-a-thon bullshit in DK64, but didn't mention the loving part where you couldn't finish the final world/dungeon/whatever and get to the final boss unless you had both the Nintendo and Rare coins, one of which required you to beat all four levels of the original Donkey Kong arcade game (twice, I think.) - the other required you to beat some other old arcade game but it wasn't nearly as hard.

They've made a few good levels with quirky things in it and then failed to complete the rest of the game, resulting in their publisher having to do it themselves (remember Brutal Legends and how that went to poo poo so fast?). Hell, on Brutal Legends Tim took everyone working on it off for an entire month to make prototypes for other games to sell rather than, you know, finish the work they were being paid to do. Exactly. Doublefine is the ulimate troll game developer. They have interesting concepts but make garbage games. None of their games are actually fun to play. And yet they still have a good name.

All of the FPS protag cameos in Duke Nukem 3D are a trend that carried on to Duke Nukem Forever too. For example: Duke usually made some quip about them (in this case, "Power armor is for pussies.") when you find them. You also find the corpse of the guy from Dead Space.

You shouldn't expect much from most EA games but its not unreasonable for people to be upset when developers completely give up on a project and run off with the money. I don't see what's so hard to understand about this.

The problem with early access is that you have hordes of nerds promising the world their craziest impossible fever dreams and then finding out that what they wanted to do was far harder than they anticipated or in fact actually impossible. Some guys go the "take the money and run" route but the other snag is that you can't make a $90,000,000 game on a $250,000 kickstarter budget.

There's an achievement for beating the game while never dropping the starting golden pistol too. Specifically never dropping, not "having in your possession at the end of the game," which I found out because I accidentally dropped it in the last area. So I didn't get the cheevo.

Gearbox is just one huge troll on everyone because they embezzle money from other projects that they screw over to siphon it in their own games, but even those games suck.

I have no idea how true or not Steam changing their EA policies in response to the Space Base situation I heard in passing from someone is or not. It would be funny if it was, but I doubt it. I'm just in the "Well, that's disappointing" camp but then I only got Steam EA and I didn't throw more money into a kickstarter like other people. Watching DF be poo poo at PR about the whole thing was at least entertaining.

Half of the time I play 'Marvel: Puzzle Quest' it feels like a troll, "We'll tell you what level they are but not their abilities. Good luck in selecting your team while we proceed to spam the poo poo out of you. Then when you select a team to deal with it we won't give you the colours to handle it. Face it son, either way you're hosed no matter team you have. Also despite the fact you have fifty characters we'll constantly send you upgrades for the five characters you've already unlocked and maxed out. You have 30 tokens from four different missions? Who are those five people you've maxed out again? You must need more of them!" I still play this game as I appreciate the irony. "We've got all these things to unlock but here's your x hundredth unlock of a character you've already forgotten about[.

You for got to mention the AI making a single 3 tile match that cascades into a 15 hit combo with 5 criticals that auto-match followed by 4 special moves, often on the very first turn. It's also pretty obvious that the AI knows exactly what order the offscreen tiles are in. It'll make a match of colors that neither team uses because it'll drop a combo down that the player can't even see. At least they added dailies and lowered the Iso requirements for leveling 3 and 4 star characters. Otherwise, I probably would've stopped playing by now.
