The NDP are more opposite the federal PCs than are the Liberals or the probably-still-too-new-to-count Alberta party. PEI kept their Liberals, Ontario handed a "surprising" victory to the Liberals last year. Yeah, to be honest I've been having a lovely week and seeing something like a cockroach just pushed me over the top. Kind of thought it over and realized that it wasn't inside the building and its not really my problem since my condo is clean. Still going to seal up everything just in case though.

I have a good buddy who's a highly placed HR executive with a large corporation who primarily does business with oil & gas. We were texting back and forth during the election coverage last night, and I asked him what impact this will have on his business.

He said "basically nothing". The NDP platform is really moderate and even with their tax increases, AB will still be the cheapest place in Canada to do business.

I've heard that too, but to be honest I really don't buy it and even if there is a correlation I'm really skeptical of it being by design.

I am interested by the Federal NDP riding this wave like they had something even in the slightest to do with the win last night and how they seem to think it's going to reflect to support to the Federal party in the fall.

I really, really don't see that happening.

The Fed Conservatives have won the past few elections here without even being on the ground. They might actually start having them campaign here instead of Ontario, but there isn't anywhere near the same animosity towards the Federal PCs to cause them to lose the any significant ground here.

I replaced a whole bunch of rotten fence that was installed by 2 drunk guys. A quick job turned into 6 hours hammering away rotten wood and straitening somebody else's mistakes. the more i removed, the more crumbled. It started out at 8 fenceboards and a 2x4, and turned into $100 worth of lumber. I ran out of screws just as the rain snow started.

Now i've gotta paint the whole thing. I asked for blue, but all they would sell me is orange, something about a new NDP law. :smith:

Is that arabic? are you trying to get CSIS all up in our poo poo?

In other news, i helped my mom rent a car. Enterprise dicked us around, upping the price over the quote, and downsizing the vehicle and trying to get a dodge journey for $60 a day as a "deal" because it's regularly $120 because it's an "SUV"

Went to avis, the dodge journey is classified as a fullsize car so instead of a chevy cruze from enterprise for $360 for 10 days with unlimited mileage only in western canada and no US allowed, she got a leathered up dodge journey with satellite radio and unlimited mileage in north america for about $290.

$29 a day for a fully loaded 7 seat "suv".

It's like $1 less a day if you book through costco, so there's that. if you need to rent a car, reserve a fullsize from avis through costco and you might get a dodge journey or charger.

Enterprise now considers the jetta "standard" instead of intermediate, and the fusion "fullsize" instead of intermediate.

chopped off all the rot.

Now i'm left with about 20 ~4 foot long reclaimed upcycled gluten free fair trade boards to do something with. i bought a bunch of shelf brackets but that just seems boring.

So, update on this bullshit now that it's more or less public knowledge through the RCMP.

My first day on the job as mayor, myself and the former board chair waltz into the bank to get the accounts frozen. Former treasurer left our meeting where we elected roles in a huge huff, none of us could figure out why the gently caress they were acting that way, so we figure, eh, may as well take a few precautions before signing authority gets moved over.

We see the bank account balances while locking the accounts and they do not jibe with what has been presented at the annual general meeting. Like, at all. We thought we had 60ish thousand in our treasury, in reality it was about 2k.

Ex-board member was forging cheques and funneling money out of the town's accounts for six loving years and none of us caught on because "lol, small town folks trust each other".

Long story short, we got the RCMP involved, said board member confessed and gave 40k back and promised to get the rest in the next few years, but it was kinda dicey there for a few weeks, we were worried that the hall might have to close for lack of funds to pay for our operating expenses.

So that's what I've been dealing with for the last few months. :suicide:

Calgary man booted from Canada's Worst Driver TV show nailed by cops travelling nearly 180 km/h on Stoney Trail
TV show dubbed Schurink "most reckless" driver ever featured

His segment on Canada’s Worst Driver ended with him kicked off the show and Calgary police tipped off to his many, many examples of bad behaviour behind the wheel. Saturday night in the city’s northeast, local traffic cops made Scott Willem Schurink’s acquaintance again.

It was happenstance, Staff Sgt. Paul Stacey said, one of his guys had the radar gun up on Stoney Tr. N.E. near 16 Ave. when Schurink drove by, allegedly doing 176 km/h in a 100 zone. Calgary police have known about him since 2010 when he was a contestant on the Canada’s Worst Driver TV show. On the show, which was televised across the country, Schurink said he’d driven drunk, driven well over 200 km/h, left the scene of a collision and driven under a false name. They booted him from the show in the season’s second week. At the speed he’s alleged to have been driving Saturday night, several years later, Schurink, now 30, faces an automatic court date. He was also allegedly driving while suspended, so he’s lost his car for 30 days too. “I’m not sure what makes him feel invincible, but it seems that he hasn’t learned a thing,” Stacey said. “This isn’t a mistake. This is just a blatant disregard for everyone’s safety on the road, including his own,” he said.

Reached Sunday evening, Schurink told the Sun the officer had an axe to grind. “I feel my character was really slandered by the way I was represented on the show. And it has definitely affected my dealings with the police since the airing of the show.” Schurink said. “But I figure that I acted young and dumb and said some dumb stuff and that’s how they portrayed me. It certainly is not who I am, and is not my driving style. I could produce 100 people I know that would support my skill as a driver, as well as countless others who have since driven with me, to see that I am not such a horrible person.”

Schurink didn’t answer whether or not he was speeding Saturday night. Daniel Bridgman, a one-time friend who was Schurink’s nominator on the show, told the Sun, “This still won’t stop him from driving.” On the show, when the host told Schurink looking cool on TV wasn’t going to work out how he had planned, Schurink fired back, “Wow. I’m about to cry — shed a tear.”

An episode later, he did.

Depends on how much is still owed at that point. Civil suit's a possibility if we'd get enough out of it to pay the legal fees.

Personally, I don't care anymore. We got the majority back, and it's enough to pay the bills until our next casino fundraiser. I'd be happy to just let it die there and not waste any more of my life fighting for an essentially meaningless 16ish thousand remainder, though there are many in the community who would pursue this to the gates of hell.
