If we have to have something, I wouldn't mind something like taking the Kyle Lockwood flag but using the old Cameron Sanders fern design on it, so NZ kids of the future actually have some small chance of drawing it.

I think a lot of people have stockholm syndrome for that blue. I was honestly kicking around a serious design earlier that was a white and green field, so I needed a third colour for the charge. I instantly thought of that lovely blue - regardless of the fact that it would look awful - simply because it's part of the existing flag.

And any flag with more than one element to it is terrible but these people submitting them seem to love it. Like a child with a crayon who needs to fit everything into the picture! I was talking to a mate who works in radio while Key was out of the country during the whole waitress assault, she was convinced that there had been a shift caused by the assault in how they will portray Key - more as a buffoon, a target for derision. That doesn't seem to have happened. In fact, it seems nothing has happened. He is back in the country and as far as I know he hasn't been arrested or questioned, and everything seems to have gone back to normal. I think he really could be caught on video shooting a kitten, and get away with it. I am starting to doubt my own intuition about the whole thing - maybe greed is good and women are playthings?
