Goddamn this game owns. Paint roller's pretty good, but I was having the most success with the splattershot jr. The paint roller is a weapon that really lives or dies by how well you're supported by the team.

the little line that tells you where a guy with a charger is aiming has saved my life over and over again. also i like how going into squid mode even when you don't have any paint to go into is still useful since it acts as a duck

Every match I had that session I was 1000+ with the splattershot jr. My death limit never went over 1 or 2 either Best was 1300 points and 10-0. I think the ratio was like 70% to 8%

Yeah, Rollers, keep running straight at me while I backpackpedal. Don't retreat or try another approach or anything... Out of 14 games, my team won 13 and I was the top spot in 12. Feels good to be kinda good at something. We'll see how it is when the game is actually released, though. Now to wait 20 days. God drat, this is a fun game.

I tried fiddling with the non-motion controls this time around and even at the lowest sensitivity it wasn't doing it for me, as strange as the motion controls are, they just work better. Near the end, I was swimming around obstacles to flank Rollers like the best of them. I don't know if I can wait the rest of the month.

The game isn't just about killing, I think if you wanted to go full min max you'd have 1 maybe 2 rollers who would score the points while the gunners took out the other team. I played as both roller and splatter (or whatever the grenade super guy was). Roller was great for scoring, running people over, and flicking paint at people. I never lost as roller because we always owned so much map. I would spend half the time claiming turf with no one in sight.

Now the waiting begins... Fun game but I have to admit I got a little bored with the maps/mode already in the last 20 minutes. I would have pre-order it in a heartbeat if the game was $40 bucks instead of $60.

I had a queue that filled with 5 people and then just sat like that for the next six minutes so I didn't get to play a game during the last ten minutes or so. On the other hand I did drat good on Squid Jump.

Oh my god this game is super loving fun Even with just the one mode and the couple of maps the hour flew by for me and after being kinda-sorta interested in this game since it was announced, I think I'm now going to die if I literally have to wait 20 more days to play more of it.

Is there anyway to contact the Splatoon devs? Because my last queue had the timer go from about 150 to 120 and then back to 150 over and over, and there was no way to escape other than to turn off the Wii U (Home button was disabled). It's a really obnoxious bug and I want to see if there's a place to report it.

Also another benefit of killing is denying squids that superjump. Yeah murdering shouldn't be your top priority, but if you can get an easy kill you should go for it because that is the best way to deny map control or whatever.

Definitely got better with the charger this time around. It's certainly an anti-squiddonel weapon. Several times I controlled basically the entire south portion of the rig while my team went and handled the north part just because with no one around I could take my time. The real key is understanding the way the charger works. You shoot farther at a full charge, but even quick taps are good for covering a nearby area. Also you charge slower if you're running out of ink, too, so that's a thing. Otherwise, just go and splat some squids. Also, I absolutely love that you get a crosshair change if you're hovering over something in range you can hit. Makes things so much easier.

This was a lot of fun! Saw a team of all rollers lose for the first time today, people are definitely getting better at countering them. However, I was on a couple teams with no rollers and going up against a balanced team is rough because was one roller can do in 5 seconds takes 10 seconds to undo. Saw a lot more rollers being used at shotguns this time around, and a lot more Splattershots/Splattershot Jrs. Didn't see many rifles, though did play one game where someone was really good at using it as a sniper rifle (had good aim), but that team still lost by a significant percentage. Interestingly, in my games the K/D (Splattered/Splatted?) ratio would frequently end up similar between the winning and losing teams. Splatoon is definitely a unique shooter. Really liking the warehouse as a roller, there's enough to cover on the sides and enough action in the center that there's always a lot to do. Interestingly with non-roller weapons you can shoot paint through the grates while staying on the higher level (but if you go squid on the grates you fall through). I need to get better at aiming and using specials before I get splatted. Tried both the gyro aiming and joystick aiming with sensitivity at 0, but always wound up looking up too much especially when turning. I guess I'm pulling toward myself when moving the right stick horizontally (inverted Y axis) and also somehow having a similar problem with holding the Gamepad. Anyone have any advice?

It's always fun to watch the tally when it's drat near impossible to tell by looking who won.

For a bit on the warehouse map I just sat on the crates in the middle, and just hopped back and forth after firing only once. Seemed like the best way to do it. But I did not know about the crosshair change! Wish I was paying attention to that.

Alright, finally caught one of the demo periods and this game is pretty rad. Decision to buy Wii U for Splatoon last year: validated. Some thoughts/questions: - I think I'm going to need a lot more than an hour to get used to the gyro camera. I kept getting in weird viewing angles and then pressing Y before I actually reset, so it didn't help. I kind of hope there's an alternative control scheme where I can use the other control stick for the camera, if I can't figure this one out. - I have no idea what the charge abilities do, except the shield. What the hell was the roller's ability supposed to do, is that a kill move? - Is it possible for a roller to take down a shield? Didn't seem like it. - I couldn't figure out how the hell the super jump worked. - I'm partial to the rifle and roller. The pistol was decent, but I wasn't great at it, and I couldn't figure out the sniper rifle for the life of me. - This was probably the smoothest online experience I've ever had with Nintendo. Lagged just once for a few seconds over the half hour. No mid-game disconnections. Every game except one had full parties on both sides. A couple of networking errors while trying to join a match, but it worked on the second try every time. - Man, the first 30-45 seconds of each match is crucial. - I wonder how many maps the final game will have? - There's nothing more satisfying than painting around the bad guy's spawn point. I lost more often than not, but my team loving crushed it one match. - Rad as gently caress.

Getting used to the ranges has been probably the hardest part for me, after trying to learn console shooter controls because kb+m has spoiled me. Regarding the actual online bits, I had a few non-starters from people not connecting, and one really bad instance of lag or desync, but otherwise it felt really smooth. chumbler fucked around with this message at 21:22 on May 9, 2015 |

I also couldn't figure this out but apparently it shoots paint sound waves (even through barriers) and kills enemies. Also to Super Jump you just tap on the gamepad on one of your teammates/arrows when you respawn and you'll jump up to them. At least this is what I did. Got a chance to try it out and it was loads of fun. Will be even better with more maps. I'm kind of skeptical that it'll sell all that well though.

One third of the matches we got booted out for unknown connection problems. And one of my friends had a game where he was spawn camping to the enemies, during the last four seconds a huge splot of enemy ink instantly appeared on the corner of the map and gave them the win.
