If the game was $40 and probably even $50, I'd be preordering no problem. At $60, I'm going to wait for the reviews to roll in to see if there's anything that makes or breaks the game.

So, something minor but neat - Nintendo is accounting for the colour blind with how the teams are presented: I believe it's a localised thing, so someone being colour blind on your team won't keep you stuck to being blue all the time on your end.

What were the Amiibo rewards? Boy gets samurai outfit, girl gets schoolgirl outfit, squid gets robosuit. And a new arcade game each. Was that it? Or were there weapons too? Or more stuff?

It might just be me but that school-squidgirl reminds me intensely of the samurai girl from no more heroes.

Astro Nut posted:So, something minor but neat - Nintendo is accounting for the colour blind with how the teams are presented: Yeah I posted about this several pages back; the short demo for splatoon came with the manual for the final version, so people dug through it for details and found that mode. It just lets you pick whatever color you want for your team and for your enemy team, and then they'll always appear as those colors regardless of what they "really" are. So yeah, its just local. Very cool. It supports people with colorblindness (and the many versions) as well as just letting you have a personal favorite. Szmitten posted:What were the Amiibo rewards? Boy gets samurai outfit, girl gets schoolgirl outfit, squid gets robosuit. And a new arcade game each. Was that it? Or were there weapons too? Or more stuff? Each has a series of missions where you have to do something, and beating all of them unlocks a new arcade game and the outfit. There could be more, but that's all we know for now. Also its unclear whether the levels you play for the challenges are just re-purposed single player levels or not.

You know, I wonder now of they'll restrict clothing based on squid gender. I could see it going either way, unless they've already confirmed it in one direction or the other. If they're shooting for a kids market they probably don't want to risk upsetting parents, but on the other hand they might be wary of flak similar to that Tomodachi Life thing.

Thing to note is that the missions are just "do this singleplayer level with this weapon instead" i think girl amiibo makes them charger, boy amiibo is roller and squid amiibo is limited ink and KRAKEN.

Dastardly posted:All clothes were unisex in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. That's a bit easier because you're literally just swapping heads. The male and female Inklings have different body shapes and animations (however slightly) so even if they wore the same clothes, they wouldn't be the "same" clothes. Usually in wear-stuff-based games this means the male and female clothing options end up stylized slightly differently, because you're having to model it twice anyway out of necessity. Sometimes this is taken to rather...non-progressive extremes, but it has a reason, at least. EDIT: Hmm, or maybe they literally are just head-swaps. I probably shouldn't study this too closely or I'll end up on some kind of list, but I assumed they were slightly different models.

The first amiibos with fairly important features to the game and the 3 pack is sold out everywhere. At least the scalpers are still around to sell them for twice the price.

For some reason the Amiibo 3 pack was not pre-ordered out at Best Buy in Canada, so I was able to get one on Saturday. I actually thought that was a sign that the packs weren't being chased after by scalpers.

Scalpers didn't know if people would buy the Splatoon Amiibos or not. Don't want to sink $35 bucks into a new IP that might not sell.
