Count me in as one of those RO was my first MMO. Played the open beta for RO when it was first launched in the US. Stopped when things go super grindy in the actual game. Spent at least a couple of years on pRO until the server was shutdown.

Tree of Savior looks interesting and the classes look fun to play around in. I'm okay with the keyboard as long as I can rebind keys.

Really, the renewal rates aren't bad at all compared to how classic was. I was able to get to transcended 2nd class fairly easy, if you're interested at all in playing for an extended period of time though I would go with VIP. Its 15$ for 30 days and you get increased exp, drop rate, less death penalty etc. Its the game's monthly fee but its not mandatory.

Sorry for no Tree of Savior info but I guess this has become the RO topic too?

Yeah I was thinking about official servers, but I have like 1billion zenny and 10+ characters all jacked up from half a dozen server-merges and I'm not sure I feel up to sorting all of that stuff.

Alas, it's time to derail the RO nostalgia train with a bit of news regarding the translation. The devs have created this:

https://github.com/Treeofsavior/EnglishTranslation

I have a feeling some overzealous brazilians are just going to keep ramming the entirety of it into google translate, but hopefully this experiment will vomit out something understandable for us international players.

If you can read hangul and understand korean you can start working on the crowdsourced translation for the game!

The etc file is npc chatter and mouse over information from what I see while the quest file are the quest texts for the game.

A new pre-renewal, low rate RO private server is launching in 3 hours. Aeva RO http://panel.aeva-ro.com/information
Seems pretty run-of-the-mill, with one big feature being a functional in-browser client. I will probably gently caress around there for a few days, it's always fun to be on the ground floor of a fresh game server.

Playing on this. It's a lot of fun being in on the ground up, the party variety is off the charts and you don't have to just grind solo until like the 70s. You do have to deal with a wave of obnoxious Filipinos, though. We should have a generic RO server thread considering that it seems to come up every 6 months or so.

Yeah this server is even better once I discovered the effing android client. Its janky, but I can grind easy maps on my tablet and its great for watching tv or whatever.

There is a falconer class, and you can have the Falcon carry you while you bombard the enemy with arrows. If we can get explosive arrows, we can pull some stupid Flight of the Valkyries bullshit.

What's the deal with that grid formation business? Is that a class feature, party skill, something else?

It's a Centurion skill. That class can arrange party members into different formations that give various buffs and advantages. This official blogpost has a bit more information(though it's from nearly a year ago, so it could be a bit outdated by now): http://blog.treeofsavior.com/en/?p=213

Have they shown any examples of the soundtrack? I'm curious how good the music will be, I think it's very important for a RO successor.

There is a wood carving subclass in the game. This is already the best thing ever. Also horrible, horrible memories of Ragnarok have steadily come back to me over the past few weeks since I was informed of this game's existence.

IMCGAMES is the international publisher for Tree of Savior, from what it looks like, so if that's a legit account shove all the Yes to it.

It was green lit like 10 hours into it so yeah there plenty of people that want the game. The crowd source translation is done but like 1/3 of it sounds like it came out straight from a machine translator. You can tell when some entries were given a lot of though to sound natural and when someone just farted into a translator and c/ped what came out into the text file.

Oh Boy Desert Map
Done, as in done done and no more edits can be made to it? A real localization team can make or break a setting if the original setting is written even somewhat coherently (I haven't been very impressed with Korean MMO scenario/lore development but TERA's localization made it at least consumable and not skip-every-quest-text junk. I only skipped some quest lines, honest)

Cao Ni Ma
May 25, 2010

Actually I went in a few days ago and saw a whole lot more written on the quest side but it looks like they trimmed all the junk entries. The entire item list though looks fine. Quest looks barren now.

There is still plenty of activity but its mostly like 3 dudes doing the heavy editing lifting.

They mentioned they wanted to have a english after the second korean one, that was 3 weeks ago. I think they need to work on client stability issues and tuning before they have a beta over here though. Although the translation seems to be going well, enough to get a beta soon over here, the game isn't anywhere near ready to officially release yet.

The github project for it is here. You can also change anything translatable locally on your client too, at any time, while you're playing.
