They're like some of the few amiibo that really interact with a game and of course they're sold out everywhere I'm not even sure they're out yet here in the US. All the sites I've been on have listed the three pack as coming out the same day as the game.

I hope the amiibo work like in Mario Kart, where you scan it once and have the content forever.

Some places don't do Amiibo pre-orders so your best bet might be to try and see if you can get the pack on release day.

The three-pack goes back on sale every now and then on Walmart, so you should just keep an eye on the amiibo thread and you'll be able to get them no problem. Amazon still hasn't put them up for sale, so that'll be an option too.

That is because literally anything can be thought to be rare, therefore scalpers will rush to buy every one that they can. That happened with Mega Man and Sonic, even though stores around me were getting tons of them every week. At least now a lot of places are now making it one per person so that people can have a chance to get them.

I seriously hate the effectiveness of the Nintendo hype machine. Dripping the iv of in store or extremely limited demo gameplay. Giving out review copies a month ahead so that social media channels like Youtube and Twitch accounts can build hype by showcasing the full game "you can see but you can't touch". I almost boycotted New leaf because of the sheer number of time locked events you can get ahead by if you have an extra month. just let me play global testfire for now. I don't care about your stress tests, you already did good enough for the twenty minutes i was able to play. I guess they have enough time after that second dose to buy up a few more boxes at the server farm to accommodate needs.

For the first one sure, we discussed that in the thread. But why not give players some free time afterwards? Even if they didn't get enough data from the first server test and so they want another, they could do a free period after that. There's no good reason why they shouldn't just let us play for 24 hours or more.

Demos generally reduce sales, so restricting it to a few hours so they can test the servers but not leave it so long people decide they don't like it or play it too much and get burned out and don't buy it is the smart move.

Lemming posted:Demos generally reduce sales, so restricting it to a few hours so they can test the servers but not leave it so long people decide they don't like it or play it too much and get burned out and don't buy it is the smart move. You're right, although companies trying to push shovelware by not letting people know how crappy it is so they only discover it a few hours after they already purchased is pretty shady. Also I would argue Nintendo doesn't need to stoop to the level other developers do. Other studios have to worry about piracy and used game sales to a huge extent, but Nintendo seems largely immune by comparison. You look at the used price for first-party Nintendo games that are even 3+ years old and they still want $40, they barely ever depreciate in value. I guess they could be worried about their new IP, but the whole "lets not let people play this so they buy it" is pretty bullshit business tactics IMO. If your product is halfway decent letting people play it will just make them want it more, so they can get the full version with more content. People burning out on the demo is a symptom that your game is a gimmick and either locks content or lacks staying power.

Even if a game is absolutely fantastic 10/10 in every way, demos will tend to cut sales for them. http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/11/jesse-schell-releasing-a-game-demo-can-cut-sales-in-half As much as people love them, there's basically no reason a company should ever release one and we're lucky that Nintendo's even giving us a few hours here and there.
