Frank Miller's Holy Terror is a fascinating look into the soul of a broken, hateful millionaire who has nothing better to do than ink-scratch the poo poo out of his own hate

Sexy suicide bombers corrupting piercing-loving youth!

Chaotic caricatures!

Torture fetish!

In the 80s he did a rather confusing contribution to AARGH - Artists Against Rampant Government Homophobia, an anthology, put together by Alan Moore, designed to protest Clause 28 in the UK. While everyone involved did comics about the struggle of LGBT people or poetic/abstract calls for tolerance, Miller's strip was about a gay-hunting Robocop.

I seriously think DC should start a new, recurring satirical title based on Frank Miller's Batman, called "The Goddamn Batman."

I mean Adam West Batman has his own title now (as well he should!).

We're cutting funding to schools and outreach programs to increase funding to counterterrorism at the moment. Also our offshore torture camps are still running. Plus we're digging into institutional sexual abuse with a Royal Commission in which the highest ranking member of the Australian Catholic Church is heavily implicated. We've also passed mandatory data retention.

It's been not a very good year.

Vivian James was originally just a mascot for /v/ to put into a sketchy game jam's final product, and she has since become a #NotYourShield mascot for GamerGate (despite being, you know, fictional). This made-up cartoon girlfriend with a rape meme-referencing shirt proves that Good Girls(tm) just want to game and forget all this SocJus crap. The people screaming bloody murder over a series of videos critical of games and an entirely made-up sex scandal are totally feministsequalists you guys remember their uncaring cartoon girlfriend they made up and immediately started churning out porn of? These guys are totally liberals, you just can't hear their liberalism over all those entitled drama whores and the MSGM (Main Stream Gaming Media) keeps lying about them.

So, yes, pretty much what you thought.

If this were posted on deviantart it would be considered amateurish even by that site's standards.. I'm not just talking about the writing or the setting or the random insertion of bondage fetishism, just from an artistic standpoint the drawings are very poor. Composition is bad, the people have no detail or depth or expressions, just everything about this shows a lack of artistic ability. How is this from a professional artist?

The same way every 'artist' who can't draw (and doesn't want to think about improving themselves) justifies their work- it's their ~*STYLE*~ and if you don't like it don't look at it, please don't leave negative comments, constructive criticism only, bad art for a bad world, outsider art can be brilliant, et cetera.

Personally, I think the dude's just got a fetish for shoe tread patterns. He's always so careful making them match and keeps putting his characters in poses where they show up, even when neither anatomy nor perspective should allow for it.

"You don't need to be good at drawing to be a good cartoonist. Heil Ted Rall."

The difference here is that Miller actually CAN draw when he applies himself/slows down and focuses, or at least COULD in the past. Aside from some occasional stiffness, there's nothing technically wrong with any of his pre-Sin City work, that I've seen.

The problem is that he allowed the experiment Sin City represented to grow out of control and completely take over his style, ultimately degrading it and turning it into a horrible, mutated version of itself, instead of using it as merely a single learning experience or stepping stone, without forgetting fundamentals he'd already mastered, on the way to bigger things and other techniques.

That's my take, anyway.

I think it started with Dwight's shoes in Sin City - they provided a nice striking image when Miller did his favorite "jumping from the rooftops" shots.
