Dr_Amazing posted:Thor Hammer chat: Thor is kind of a dick most of the time. How's he more worthy of anything that Captain America? Basically Daddy made the Hammer just for him, so Thor gets a lot more leeway in being worthy even though he's a spoiled, bloodthirsty dick sometimes. I really love Marvel's Thor but it does have some pretty disturbing implications about Arthurian concepts of "divine right" that post-Enlightenment thinking can tear down without much difficulty, but much the same way we still call Kennedy's White House "Camelot" there are elements of that mythos that still appeal to us in broad strokes.

It's whoever's worthy of being Thor, not whoever's the best person. I bet the real reason Cap can't just pick the thing up is that he's too nice and can't get drunk.

Yeah, this basically. Worthy in an Asgardian sense - honor and fighty and revelry and valhalla and all that stuff. The Vision was made worthy.....by the cape. (in that moment he assimilated some thor-ness)

I think Vision was worthy by virtue of being like a day young. Completely free of any vices or wrongdoing.

There's an AWFUL lot of storylines where Supes becomes a bad guy, he's got a little bit of flaw to him. Frostwerks posted:Goku could lift it. There'd be a whole filler arc where he tries and fails over and over, and everybody else does too. But then something serious would happen and he'd need to lift it for real, and he's just go super saiyan and be like "haha yeah I could do it the whole time" because Goku.

The only iteration of the Vision who was able to lift Thor's hammer was explicitly described as a Cyborg with mechanical and biomechanical parts given true sentience and essence via an Infinity Stone.

Each of The Endless in Sandman has their own distinct font, and its really really really cool. Its a literary device that only visual novels / comics can really do, I guess maybe books too. It really gives a lot of character to the scene when you see these very distinct dialogues. Delirium's probably my favorite. As for Irrationally Irritating, I really hate how most comics tend to bold practically every single word for emphasis. Its just too much. I can't not see it and it bothers me and like 90% of comics do it.

I actually noticed this as a kid and it irritated me so much even then that I rationalized it as some sort of inevitable result from the printing process, I figured it was hard to get little letters an even thickness or something. Then I grew up and realized that it was loving intentional.

Just watched the first episode of this new Supergirl show, and there are a few really annoying things. One, why does she wear glasses? Clark Kent wears glasses as a disguise because he's Superman. At the start of the show Kara has no need of a secret identity, she's not a super hero and never has been, so why does she wear glasses? She has better vision than any human. Is it a hipster fashion thing? Two, are they not allowed to say "Superman" for some reason? All this "him" and "your cousin" and so forth is really jarring. They said "man of steel", why can't they say "Superman"? Speaking of Superman, why does the secret government organisation hunting down the alien criminals on Earth not get his help? Why didn't Kara go talk to him when she decided to become a super hero? Seems like he could have given her some advice and encouragement. Oh, and that thing about how "if you have a problem with her being Supergirl rather than Superwoman then maybe you're the anti-feminist" was just really, really dumb.
