Looks like their stress test finally succeeded. Hopefully this gets them what they need for a smooth launch.

In the one round I played I have determined that I still cannot use the charger for poo poo. Think I'll just wait until the shooting range in the real game to get a feel for it.

I'm glad everyone else is having problems, I thought everyone was off being a rad squid and my kid rear end was sitting on the searching screen.

EDIT: Oh gently caress, I got dumped to the title screen and now it's telling me the server can't take any more connections.

It's giving error code 106-0102 for me, while also helpfully explaining that "an error occurred". Can't even get to the tutorial this time.

Since the first was was so smooth, my guess is they reduced the number of servers or whatever resources to find the breaking limit, then they can probably figure what they need for the real thing.

Or maybe this is wishful thinking and it's hosed.

Nonsensical Space Powers, Activate! Form of Friendship!
Whilst you guys are dealing with Testfire issues:
  • Played through 11 stages, not including the 2 boss fights in between.
  • First area has 3 stages, second has six, and the third area I don't even know yet.
  • Basically, each level has a key theme/gimmick to it that makes up the intended challenge of the level, and the levels have (initially blacked out) icons to help tell you what that is.
  • Getting scrolls, naturally, gets generally harder as the game goes on. The main trick seems to be on having the path be something that you can easily miss, such as a grate beneath a sponge that you need to drop down in squid form, but that the sponge will cover if full. The tidbits inside vary from minor lore bits (such as confirming that yes, the Inklings have no bones), to apparent backstory, like the Octarians having an energy crisis which may be the root of their conflicts with the Inklings.
  • If you replay a stage, the zapfish is replaced by a stuffed toy. :3:
  • If the first two bosses are part of a trend, then the main thing with bosses is getting on their backs to shoot their large tentacles. The challenge, as becomes apparent with boss 2, is actually getting there, because I had to establish a ring of ink around the guy in order to reach all the targets in time to make it vulnerable.
  • You can change bomb types on the fly in single player, once you've unlocked the extra two. Splatter gun seems to be the weapon of the single player campaign, though I could be wrong.
  • There's a character who may have a score to settle with Cuttlefish. There was a transmission hack after the second boss.
  • Favourite level so far is either the one that introduces you to rails (because popping up to shoot from those things is fun), or a UFO over Inkopolis, which has the first mini-boss of the game, who hounds you through the level by dropping artillery fire on you.
  • Stealth is your friend in single player. Seriously, the enemies work on a sight basis (complete with MGS-esque '!'), and you'll often save yourself a lot of trouble by dropping into ink, lining up your shot, and then pressing ZR to fire. By the way, if you're still holding ZL when you release ZR, you drop right back into the ink. Didn't realise that, pretty cool trick.

All in all, the game is actually pretty fun. There's a good variety in terms of stages, enemies, and gimmicks, so there's always something new to do or account for as you as you try to reach the zapfish. I wager I'm about a third of the way through, depending on whether or not there continues to be more stages per area, or if it levels off around six each after the first one. I'm more comfortable than ever with the gamepad controls, especially for aiming whilst dived. Gonna give the blighters some more hell tomorrow.

(Cap'n Cuttlefish is the best mission control)

I could see them doing another hour Ina bit to see if they fixed the issue. Pretty embarrassing if this happens launch day. They might also need more hardware. A patch might be able to handle more load but probably not much if they are only match making and not hosting the matches themselves.

A back end patch could gate people and only let so much match making happen at once. Load might also be down at launch because on single player and more spread out start times.
