Ours is cleaning up and getting ready for the opening in June. They want to run memberships through patreon so I guess we'll see how that goes.

Normal people might reasonably go "OK so these electrical work bullet points, I can't help but remember how we just recently had a huge shutdown and a $30k bill fixing 'hackerspace' electrical work. Is doing our own wiring something we should really be doing?" "Self-done electrical work is legal as long as it is up to code, and the people doing the work mentioned do know their stuff so we're not repeating the past, at least not in this instance." Maybe even a "Perhaps this is an opportunity for me to run a meeting on basic electrical code so that you can understand what you see when you look at wiring in a house or building. You won't be an electrician if you attend this but at least you'll understand what you're looking at and know what some red flags are. Like help members recognize whether someone who might start wiring poo poo down the line knows what they're doing or not. Anybody interested?" Of course that's a wasted opportunity to get defensive and pissy. As much as I'd love to make some snarky comment about how this is oh so hackerspace-ish the truth is it's just a people thing. (It's still totally a hackerspace nerd thing though)

Yeah. We were discussing ^H in a LAN thread and someone quoted horrible things from noisebridge. I had known it was a shithole since I first heard about it years ago, but I saw this thread existed and was active, so I figured I'd read the last 2 pages. loving around with lasers isn't that bad. I mean like, you pretty much have to try to blind yourself. You'd have to not wear your safety goggles, and then loving put your eye in the beam(or a reflection thereof, which is the real danger) but even then the kinds of lasers you can get when you don't have much money are going to be either high-precision low power (not very harmful) or cutting lasers (CO2 etc) in which case you would have to be the king of the bonglords to end up in a situation where you make contact with the beam.
