After receiving a piece of paper yesterday, I stayed at a friend's house and we watched Teekyuu and some Symphogear so that is a decent amount of anime for the weekend I figure

Theres a bunch of short segments in bobby's in deep that have 80s pop playing over while everything is sketches or wierd mtv style filters play over everything.

It's cool.

It's slow and meandering in the same way that a students short film project would be. Animation can be sparse and there's a lot of cuts to static imagery that you could read as being symbolic of elements of the ova but mostly seem to just be there, or to break up dialogue. When they really want to go all out they go all out though, the motorcycle scenes stand out in a good light. There's a bunch of musical interludes done in different styles of either animation or illustrative aesthetic that are neat, but most of the soundtrack is pretty low key 80s pop. I think the sound design is pretty good though. The only copy I could find is a vhs transfer so the whole thing has a film of fog around it, which actually works in its benefit a lot of the time.

The basic premise is it's a short story about a dude with a motorcycle and not a lot of idea about what he wants to do with his life, when out of the blue a girl starts writing him letters. Very short runtime, under 45 minutes. I definitely recommend it if you're looking for something different and stylish but not really dependent on action.

Full disclosure though that I was exactly the same kind of aimless motorcycle teen as bobbie, so almost the whole time watching it I had a strong sense of nostalgia or regret, and really wish I still had my bike today. It's probably more effective if you were like that too.

Cool. I think it's kind of sad that there isn't really a market for this kind of project anymore.
