Yup! Walk away and meditate. They're bound to a location, it's not like they're going anywhere.

As for tips, the moment it enters Yrden and materialises, hit it with three light attacks and move away. If it tries to do a multi-hit combo, you're too slow or greedy. Geralt moves forward when attacking so there's no need to be in its face all the time since it can lunge and that's what two shots you. If you even try hitting when its incorporeal it might lunge and two shot you. If it teleports, simply kite it into a new Yrden. Once it does the blinding move, the clouds reflect where the clones will appear, you can back up and disperse them with a single hit or wait it out. Moon Dust bombs forces it to materialise for ~10 seconds.

Coincidentally the default horse blinders and axii lets Geralt keep a horse steady through the blindness move, you can kill a wraith effortlessly on horseback.

Yeah Nilfgaard and the Northern Realms seem pretty equally the strongest. Monster would make it a three-way tie if it weren't so melee-focused and thus counterable. Scoia'tel is just underwhelming.

Monster also has the problem of having no spies and no medics which combined with the muster-heavy playstyle means it has a tendency to run out of cards in the hand faster than any other deck. It's pretty much a pure blitz deck - you win in two rounds or not at all.

I hated going up against Monster decks when I had nothing but garbage in my Northern Kingdoms deck. The banding ability (is that what it's called when they draw all similar cards at once?) ate my lunch so many times before I had good counters like Three Jackdaws (whatever his dragon name is) in combination with scorch etc. I guess Monster is a good early deck against stupid opponents, but since it's not a viable option until your NK deck is already very strong, it's kind of a waste.

If you get a human enemy down to low-ish health and throw an enhanced grapeshot at them, you're left with just a pair of legs that then fall over.

The dismemberment system in this game is so good.

That was some intense loving poo poo there. Geralt taking like half a health bar from falling a few inches is one of the more stupid things in this game.

Honestly I felt more like I was trying to be strong for Triss than the other way around. She's a badass sorceress and as she points out repeatedly, she knows what she was getting into. Getting Geralt's fingernails ripped out would have been a lot easier to bear. Instead I felt like ok, can't gently caress this up for Triss, oh god can't listen to any more, maybe if I suffer through just one more prompt... It was literally one dialog prompt per fingernail, SO horrifying.

Just want to reiterate that despite its issues with janky combat (although I think complainers should just Deal With the fact that a Witcher's fighting style is inhuman and acrobatic) this is still an amazing game. Possibly story but more likely mechanics question: I'm bouncing between the two main Novigrad quests, and I've progressed Get Junior enough that I met our old buddy Roche and went to a meeting with Radovid.

After some cutscenes and I get control back I note that one of the secondary quest I had, Gangs of Novigrad, just failed. I tried progressing that one but since I had already started looking for Junior on my own I couldn't seem to do anything with it, so I just left it.

Is there any consequence to failing it? Like, was there a quest chain or something which I should have done before this point? Or should I just play on?

I'm really feeling like I'm on a fast burn mode of this game just to get it done. I haven't played a second of gwent, I only click on books and notes I find to activate their quests, so much of the back fluff is lost to me. It's like I'm cheating myself out of the majority of what the writers made, and I'm kind of mad about it.

Whenever I get cRPGs I play binge sessions and go into autopilot mode and just run run run, rather than play for ~45 mins and go do something else, letting what I've done and seen gel in my mind. I don't know why there is a lovely war on, nor who the belligerents are, and I don't care about what's at stake.

I think I've resolved to start over and use a strict time limit on myself so I have to pay attention to what I'm doing. This might help me to slow down and read stuff, so I can get an idea about the other two games I didn't play. Viper swords here I come again.

All the patrons' reactions and facial expressions are pitch-loving-perfect in a world where everything sucks and everything wants to kill you and your only possible salvation is a dehumanized soldier of fortune who appears to give no fucks about you but there's this little relief in this tiny inn with this lady who can carry a mean tune and knows her way around a lute and suddenly things don't seem so bad, and even the ornery witcher looks positively entranced and beguiled.

This scene isn't optional, right? I mean, I can get it no trouble, right? I'd loving hate to miss out on it in my save file.
