Hobo By Design posted:It is probably deaf. When my childhood labrador was a puppy my mother was determined to make sure he did not fear the demon Vac'uum. When it was cleaning time she'd have the treat bag in her hand and if he braved the terror he'd get fed periodically throughout the process. It didn't take much encouragement, though, as he was pretty fearless. You know those "is this the puppy for you" tests, like throwing your keychain near him to see how he reacts? Yeah, when we did that at the breeder's house he took the keys and ran. The end result is that 11 years later you had to bump him with the vacuum to get him to abdicate the premium lounging spot so it could be cleaned. He'd sigh theatrically and mosey to the other side of the room. Wish I had more pictures of that dog. Edit: lol, when I hit Post it told me 502 bad gateway. I'm glad I didn't just try again.

We actually have a cat like that, that sometimes comes by my house. If I leave something to eat it in the garden, it sits down, then uses its paws to pick up a piece and eat it. Very sophisticated.

i was clearing out some firewood in somebody's yard. Big pile, was sitting for years, guy needed it gone. When I started working this big black cat came out of the woodpile and took off. About a half hour later i discovered why she was there I got ahold of the owner and he decided to give them a temporary home. He's going to wait and see if the mother comes back for them and if not, he's going to find them some homes.

What part of the world is this? My family's been looking for a nice little black cat. I'd take a guess based on what firewood you're working with, but it's hard enough to tell that those are kittens, never mind whether that's birch or eucalyptus. On that note, my family has kittens again. Seven adorable little ginger tabbies, and two blonder beasts. Are/will be available to anybody who either lives in or is willing to visit SW Washington. PM for details.

poptart_fairy posted:What on earth is that dog trying to do? Pretty sure he's trying to play. I have a fairly large dog (105ish pounds), and this is how he plays with the neighbors new litter of pups. Nice and low where he can't stomp on them and just gentle nudges with his nose. He doesn't even wag as vigorously as he did since he thwacked one and it yipped. Big dogs that are well socialized can be surprisingly gentle with young animals and little kids.

Speaking of babies in Eastern Michigan, for the last two days, walking to my building's front door I've been buzzed by a robin flying out in a hurry. So today I looked close, and above my door on the ledge, I see this: It's not a very good pic, but if you look close you can see a tiny beak poking out the top

Pookah posted:Was just about to post this too; spent most of saturday in happy tears & this video sent me off blubbing again Not only has it passed there but it's been the catalyst to get Australia's conservative "gay people make me feel threatened" prime minister to cave and allow his party to vote how they actually want to regarding same sex marriage. It's gone from a pipe dream that is really only talked about by our left wing Greens party and our (allegedly) centre left Labor party kicking up a stink about how they don't want it to the conservative government going "this is a decision that shouldn't be owned by just one party but should be something our whole parliament puts forward". There is a reasonable chance that it will pass here with both of the major parties heads being dragged along kicking and screaming simply because Ireland has managed to pass it and they're feeling like they need to do this to save face.
