Watching some Paelous videos made me realize something I've just visually glossed over: what is up with the backgrounds of a lot of internet critics/talkers/youtubers being filled with action figures and the like? I stopped buying action figures when I was 12 and any geeky books are placed no differently than normal books on my shelfs; is this just a Visual Nerd Cred Cue or something? A whole bunch of 'em do it, and I don't get it.

There was a Quantum Leap comic book where Sam leapt into the body of a grey alien who was abducting people. I think the plot also involved him having to impregnate one of the abducted people.

I've read that one! Though it didn't involve him having to impregnate anyone, I think it was just the woman was pregnant and he had to save her and her husband. The comic was hilariously bad. Not only that, it was the last one and ends with him leaping into a baby. What a way to go.

I don't really do much on camera stuff these days but the "nerdy poo poo" background kind of tends to be a bugbear of mine, especially when its someone behind a whole load of clearly very carefully organised games and stuff (e.g. someone like AlphaOmegaSin). That really annoys me for some reason, in a "Holy poo poo I get it already, you like games, now stop bloody ranting" sort of way...I just find it kind of annoying and messy, I guess. Get something more tasteful together (e.g. not a green screen with your massive logo on it). Maybe because it's like something you'd have to have if you were using a webcam, and now you're using a proper camera it's still the same shot? I dunno. Still, I used to do a lot of filming in front of a bookcase and the only 2 comments it ever used to get were 1: people highlighting my copy of "Porno" by Irvine Welsh and 2: people commenting that I should probably do something with the bookcase because it clearly wasn't stable and would no doubt fall down and kill me one day.

Excellent. I suppose my equivalent of having made it would be getting a personal thanks from Sam Mraovich because I doubt most of the other filmmakers whose films I mentioned are either alive, or willing to give me the time of day (oh actually, wait, I got followed by Carl Crew way back when I reviewed The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer. That was pretty amazing.)

A whole bunch of 'em do it, and I don't get it. It gives the audience something visually interesting to look at besides a blank wall. I think that was actually Linkara's reason to go from empty wall to shelves. In Phelous' case, he'll often change the stuff in the background to match whatever he's talking about. In Spoony's older reviews, you'll see his posters change in a similar way. So some people just want you to have something interesting to look at, while others use it for easter eggs.

I don't normally watch Sage but I'll have to give this one a look - the entire Robotech thing fascinates me, taking three different series and stitching them together with this unifying mythology and shared story. His vision for Robotech was apparently that it would a 365-episode mega-epic, where the ending would lead back into the start - a kind of ouroboros thing, I suppose.

Kim Justice has brought out another video on British TV shows about videogames. This time it's about Channel 4's 1999-2001 late night review show Bits, and it's short-lived follow up Thumb Bandits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AOv4vYVwa4 One thing I'm really looking forward to is a video mentioning When Games Attack, another short-lived video game show that's only really notable for being hosted by Gamesmaster host Dominik Diamond. It was a similarly laddish show to Bits and Thumb Bandits, featuring segments where glamour models would play DDR, or Diamond messing about in a Christmas elf costume while doing a feature on Everquest 2.
