A week after N2 Human Sphere ships to my house they announce N3 Human Sphere.. Heh.. Interested in the new troop profiles and Fireteam rules! Any guesses on what they are going to change?

I'm becoming increasingly unimpressed with Corvus Belli. They did a whole bunch of whinging about how they didn't want to obsolete the N2 books, including refusing to re-write a bunch of stuff that needed it, and now they're going to do new N3 versions anyway. That's on top of them deciding to pointlessly resculpt a ton of perfectly good miniatures while huge gaps remain in the range, including a ton of stuff that arrived with N3. My local group has been steadily dying for a month and a half or so now. I don't see that trend reversing.

Couldn't disagree more, from a "new" players perspective. Using old edition books + n3 Is an awful barrier to entry. New sculpts are fantastic.

Yeah, the N3 version books aren't a bad idea, it was just a terrible idea to limit the N3 core book because they didn't want to obsolete the N2 expansion books. Which they're now obsoleting. And no, sorry, the amount of resculpts are a terrible plan. Some units needed it, but they've gone well past that point and are just resculpting things on artistic whims while missing units stay missing. The Naffatun and 45th Highlanders are both ridiculous examples of unnecessary resculpts, no matter how good the new models are.

Corbeau posted:Yeah, the N3 version books aren't a bad idea, it was just a terrible idea to limit the N3 core book because they didn't want to obsolete the N2 expansion books. Which they're now obsoleting. Yeah, I agree about the N3 stuff. Announcing from the beginning they were going to redo HS and CP would have been fine. Or not doing that and doing what they did, also fine. But bending over backwards to make the N3 book worse in the interest of not obsoleting old books, hurting your new edition rollout to do it, frustrating players with a delayed and schizophrenic new edition/FAQ process, and then after all that saying "eh, gently caress it, we'll redo the books anyway" is the worst of both worlds. PV is right that the way they decided to do it was bad for new players, but they were told that up and down for months before N3 and did it anyway. At that point stick to it, don't do poo poo on promises of not obsoleting books no one cared about obsoleting anyway, and then go back after you've already borne the brunt of the criticism for it. Disagree about the sculpts, though, I think everything they have put out is great. The playerbase and the company are totally ok with the lack of WYSIWYG, which is the only reason to rush out models for holes in the line, and if you arent doing that I want the sculptors to put out the poo poo they are excited about, because those will be the best models. The only thing is that they tend to get ahead of themselves - that new Aquila HMG was both totally unnecessary since the old model was great anyway, and it also clearly has a panzerfaust, which if that is an update in new HS we won't actually get to use for, what, a year? \/\/ Well the idea was that you never needed to buy the old books, it was all in the wiki. But the wiki hasn't been updated so that idea didn't work out. I'd bet money they won't do the smart thing and release a full integrated PDF when N3HS comes out anyway - you'll still need to have 3 PDFs and a FAQ to have the full rules. I know several people in my area that picked up Infinity and then quit due to the Old edition + n3 books needed. I wish we could have the community support like Privateer press does. They have a wiki, nice unit cards that lay out what a unit can do (Kind of hard to port over to infinity) and official FAQs and Mods that will answer rules questions and get them vetted. We have a core group of players where I am at but its hard to get more people into infinity.

They did say at the very beginning their intention was to eventually redo HS and CP, but they would not release them immediately and keep them up to date via FAQ to bridge to N3. I'm not sure where this myth that they wouldn't redo them as come from, seeing that more on the main forums though. That said they have hammered out the HS/P (which it seems to be) trailer out rather quickly.

They said over and over that they were only replacing the main book with N3 and that HS and CP would remain relevant, and then would always hedge and say "maybe we'll redo the other books someday but maybe not, we also want to work on Acheron Falls" The high priority they placed on not obsoleting HS and CP implied they didn't really have plans to redo them and just didn't want to take that option off the table. In retrospect it seems weird that they stressed how CP and HS would remain legal and not obsolete, only to announce 6 months later that they are obsoleting them after all.

Yes, like I said it seems a weird decision to stress keeping those books relevant when it was only going to be six months.

Yeah, I think they decided to fast track the pace after N3 launch, either way I can't complain just means we get them sooner.

Me and a friend are finally going to move up to full fledged Infinity games. 300 points and command tokens. What can command tokens do again? I know you can like spend them to reroll doctor rolls?
|
# ? May 26, 2015 17:12 |
|
Two of the most important to remember are the strategic use (spend one to burn two regular orders from your opponent's pool if you're going second) and coordinated order (four models do the exact same thing for the price of one regular order and one command token). Some restrictions and nuances apply, so do check the rulebook, but those two are the ones you're likely to actually use.

Where is Special Dodge in the rulebook? Smoke cites it with a little "remember this is different from Dodge " but I don't see it anywhere in the Common/Special Skill index.
|
# ? May 27, 2015 17:28 |

It's not a skill. "Special Dodge" just means it's a BS weapon that can be used to oppose all incoming attacks with one roll.

The phrase just means that it is not same as the dodge rule. It is fully explained on that smoke ammunition page you were on.

Not too bad. I went 3-1 overall after getting nearly tabled my first round and picking up zero objective points when I played a mean CA list. Two of my three wins were pretty close so I finished pretty squarely in the middle overall. I guess it's back to my bosozoku biker army for tournaments because I did manage to find a Yojimbo while at the con. One thing I did learn is that Suppressive Fire is pretty drat mean under N3. Having my Dragoe in a strategic spot with SF was a huge pain in my opponents rear end several times.

Sweet, yeah SF is like my default end turn point for all TAGs nowadays just because of the Silhouette profiles, really useful on things like my Squalo which tend to be a bit varied in where it ends up on a turn by turn basis, especially the shorter range profiles that have HFTs. As you've said, very useful for the Dragao too because that thing has awful AROs otherwise. Glad it worked out dude! Did you get much use out of Singh? I tend to put him in lists cause he's a cool dude and a specialist but tend to take him out a lot as well, he's pretty pricey.

How would I increase the orders? Adding a few models and split he HI 50/50 between two combat groups?
|
# ? May 29, 2015 20:39 |

My go-to in vanilla lists is a second combat group with a specialist, an ARO board control piece, and one or two other units that could use the occasional order. I particularly like the Engineer + Hacker + TR Bot + camo specialist skirmisher 4-man combat group. What you cut in order to get those points, I don't know. You may not be able to do it, frankly, if you want to field multiple elites (of which you have, like, three or four). That's okay though; my Military Orders lists almost never go beyond 10 or 11 orders (with a hidden TO sniper alone in the second combat group - so not really a productive order so much as a nasty ARO surprise). Just be aware that you'll need smart defensive coverage to neutralize multiple enemy orders and disrupt their plans, or else you'll get swamped. Is this any good? I am trying to maximize the models in the neoterra starter + other stuff I own. I have no idea how to seperate the groups, I could use help with that too...I guess the bolt sniper could be the ARO piece in the second group as mentioned above, as the list already has 5 others who will form the link I guess. Not a viking posted:What's the difference between strikers and sweepers again? They're terms that I made up, so it's not as if there's a general agreement about this, but I tend to think of strikers as pieces specialized to cross the table and gently caress up your opponent's order pool. Sweepers, on the other hand, exist to clear out board control units so that your specialists and strikers can go do their jobs.

Yeah they basically have an "infernal" like PP rules forums, which is dope. Really awesome. In other news, while I am super geeked for this game, I have a PILE of models sitting here in purgatory, missing parts. Dragoes with 2 right legs, a miscast Nisse sniper, and the bolts SWC box I just put together was missing 4(!) parts. A little frustrating, because I basically cant paint currently because everything that is unpainted is missing a part or something. I already put in the mispack parts requests and they replied quickly and nicely. Just wish I had a handful of complete models to slap paint on while I wait for the parts.

Wow, that's super unlucky. I think out of the five armies I've bought, I've only had one slightly messed up arm (curiously enough also on a bolt). Much better than the time I bought a box of necron warriors and half their chest pieces looked like they'd been melted...
