I watched it in elementary school during a math class and even back then, as a literal ignorant child I thought it was painfully awkward and terrible. Even with that lovely sing song tape and two hours of grannies shifting about on stage, they still dodged a loving bullet there.

Ahhh, Bits. Loved Bits, and 4Later in general. Vids, TV Offal, Exploitica, random B-Movies. Staying up all night to be rewarded with the Magic Roundabout and Ivor at 6am. Aleks still appears on Radio 4 regularly and has won awards. If I ever have the chance to abuse the use of a time machine, one of my stops will be to tell my younger self the type of 'specialist' films Emily Booth has appeared in  Thumb Bandits: I remember HATING it. Iain Lee was a man who, at the time, I maintained had one skill: To read knob gags from an autocue. Perfect for the 11 O'Clock Show, not perfect for much else at the time, especially if it was daytime and no swearing allowed.

To me it felt like just as I was getting bored of the beginning portion, bam werewolfed. However given the title and the cover, immediately after the initial werewolfing I just didn't care and wanted to get to the WolfCop. It's a catch 22 really. You've got to put that cover out to get sales, and what else are you going to call it? At the same time though, everyone's watching for some WolfCop, so the entire time you're setting it up they're looking at their watch and thinking about how they came for WolfCop, not DrunkCop. Also I'm going to have to try and get me one of these posters.

You know, poparena, I think all your reviews are really great and really enjoy them, but I suspect a big part that won me over was our shared hatred of Cassie. Or least the way she is written sometimes. I loved the series growing up, but I think they stopped translating them in the 40s or so and one of the very first thing I did on the Internet was looking up fansites to see how it ended. Stuff like the Elfangor or Hork-Bajir Chronicles completely blew my mind.

The worst part is how well she was written during the David Trology, where you can see her beginning to really manipulate people and making arguably way more horrible choices by trying to avoid killing someone. It also really tied into well with Rachels growing resentment towards her and it's all just kinda thrown away until the book where she suggests recruiting more Animorphs by using humans who Yeerks wouldn't want. Though I have an issue with how clever Visser Three was back then and how slowly over the series he just regressed into a dumb leader who didn't think anything out at all.

She really isn't alone in this. Cassie is really just one in a very long line of pacifist characters in (america ) children's entertainment who are terribly written. They are either portrayed as naive and wrong or are proven right by incredible contrived circumstances or Deus Ex Machina. I guess because most works are action oriented and kind of oversimplified. Pacifism actually runs counter to that, especially the modern trend of mookification of enemies. But neither of these things really apply to Animorphs, since the series is actually pretty great in giving the entire war a deeper context. Over the course of the series, the Yeerks, Andalities and hell, even the Taxxons are all given proper motivations and explanations for their behavior and their actions are generally always portrayed through the point of view of specific characters, which each characters giving a different perspective. That is a lot for a children's book series. Especially the way the children change throughout it, mostly Marco, but also Rachel and Jake. Ax, too, kinda, but he is out of focus a lot. And yet, they really dropped the ball with Cassie. And the thing is, the older I get, the more I realize that, if written right, her way of doing things would have actually worked pretty well, in a different situation. She was very much the right person in the wrong place.

I was only vaguely aware of Animorphs. When I was part of the target audience, I was mad keen on Star Wars (it was bigger than Pokémon for me) and got big into the Jedi Apprentice series, which was aimed at the same age group (and Goosebmps to a lesser extent), so I never really tried Animorphs.

Yea Australia and Atlantis are always some of the top of the 'bad Animorphs books' list. I totally forgot how batcrap crazy they got. Like I forgot the 'alien war' turned into an actual Alien War with all sorts of insane nonsense happening.

The only things I remember about Animorths was that I read them a lot when I was a kid, they were surprisingly violent at times, I really enjoyed stories where that god guy shows up and fucks with the group, and I never finished the series as my local library didn't have anything past I think book 30? A number of books higher than twenty at least, cause I read at least twenty of them. Anyways, Lindsay has a new Loose Cannon, this time on Death. Naturally, in covering such a broad topic, she will leave out your particular favourite variation. Like she only mentions one anime, and I honestly never knew Black Butler had anything to do with grim reaping so it's a hellva weird choice when Death Note is, like, right there. So really it's less "Death" and more "incarnations of Death that are directly inspired by or hold to the same general ideal as 1957's The Seventh Seal"
