I'd love some tools that destroy cover and come in greater supply at the cost of hurting enemies less or even, somehow, not at all.

X-COM was pretty influential, even if there wasn't a massive amount of people who played the originals, I bet a lot of people interested in those types of games picked it up later/heard about it and were into it before the remake came out. It's a big niche, but there's been bigger games with less broad appeal.

gradenko_2000 posted:It's not an 'alternate universe'. It's THE universe. We just did not get to choose which one came true any more than Warcraft 1/2 players got to choose which campaign ending was canon. Scattered EXALT splinter factions survived the destruction of their headquarters. When the temple ship was destroyed, numerous UFOs and grounded aliens were stranded on Earth. EXALT, in trying to gain some breathing room by fomenting a media panic against XCom ("TERRORIST AGENCY DETONATES ALIEN SUPERWEAPON IN TERRIFYING DISPLAY OF POWER" makes a hell of a headline), inadvertently provides the surviving aliens with a golden opportunity: XCom, believing its work to be largely done for the moment, goes into hiding and the remaining aliens are able to do the same. Thin Men and psionic aliens control and/or replace a handful of key personnel and eventually hijack EXALT directly, gaining access to their contacts and allies across the globe. With access to the secret society's considerable wealth and influence, they are able to rise to power in short order - and many of their new transhumanist underlings are all too eager to undergo genetic and cybernetic alteration in pursuit of post-human perfection. There, now everything gets to be true and you still get to shoot aliens. Also, EXALT is back, and this time they have MECs, psionics, and plasma weaponry.

Well it would make sense the aliens stopped loving around after the overseer got taken. On the other hand reliable info is really hard to come by and some sources say XCOM never got advanced alien tech and that would mean you lost sometime during the laser phase.

Just finished Site Recon for my first time, and boy that was fun. Tense and difficult and almost a disaster on three separate occasions, two of them due to people missing 90%+ shots (twice in one case), but fun and I got the entire team out without a scratch and with two turns to spare.
